However, the current official store selector shows 32 GB and 64 GB memory configurations—not 128 GB—and a GPD support response dated August 17, 2026, says production of the 128 GB version has ended because of RAM shortages.
That makes the accurate current description more complicated than the original “up to 128 GB RAM” headline: the Win 5 remains a real, unusually powerful Windows gaming handheld, but 128 GB should now be treated as a discontinued, region-limited, or remaining-stock configuration unless a live listing can actually be added to a cart.

What is currently available?
GPD’s official store currently marks displayed Win 5 configurations as In Stock. The visible selector includes the Ryzen AI Max+ 395 and Ryzen AI Max 385 processors, 32 GB or 64 GB of memory, and up to 4 TB of PCIe 4.0 NVMe storage. A listed Ryzen AI Max+ 395 model with 64 GB RAM and 2 TB storage was priced at $2,752.95 on August 18, 2026. Prices and stock can change.

The selector does not show a currently orderable 128 GB option. GPD’s technical specifications still list 32 GB, 64 GB, and 128 GB of LPDDR5X-8000 memory, but that specification table is not proof that every capacity remains available for purchase.

How the 128 GB story changed
The original news was genuine. On December 3, 2025, Notebookcheck reported that GPD had introduced Win 5 versions with up to 128 GB of RAM, including a white model. One reported white configuration paired 128 GB of memory with 4 TB of storage at $2,653, although shipping timing was unclear at the time.
GPD’s more recent support answer, dated August 17, 2026, says the 128 GB model is no longer being made because of RAM shortages. The result is a conflict between the product page’s historical or technical specification and the live retail selector. For buyers, the practical rule is simple: do not call the 128 GB model generally available unless the exact configuration is selectable and can be added to the cart.
Old crowdfunding listings, regional SKUs, limited white models, and leftover inventory can all create “128 GB available” claims that do not represent current production.

Current processor and configuration options
| Processor | Integrated GPU | Memory shown in current selector | Storage shown in current selector |
|---|---|---|---|
| Ryzen AI Max+ 395 | Radeon 8060S | 32 GB or 64 GB | 2 TB included; 4 TB upgrade; 1 TB marked “Coming soon” |

The Ryzen AI Max+ 395 has 16 Zen 5 cores and 32 threads, a listed 3 GHz base clock, up to 5.1 GHz maximum frequency, 64 MB of L3 cache, and a listed 55 W default TDP with a 75 W boost TDP. GPD separately advertises an up-to-85 W device-level maximum, so processor specifications and the handheld’s configurable power limit should not be treated as identical.
The Ryzen AI Max 385 has eight Zen 5 cores and 16 threads with a Radeon 8050S GPU. It is the less extreme choice for buyers who want the Win 5 design and Windows flexibility without paying for the highest available CPU and graphics configuration.
Why the Ryzen AI Max+ 395 is unusual in a handheld
The Max+ 395 version uses a Radeon 8060S integrated GPU with 40 compute units and a listed maximum GPU frequency of 2.9 GHz. GPD describes the graphics architecture as RDNA 3.5 and claims up to 126 TOPS of total AI computing; that figure refers to platform-level AI capability rather than a simple NPU-only performance rating.

Early third-party results illustrate the potential, but not a universal performance guarantee. PC Gamer reported roughly 55 frames per second in Doom: The Dark Ages at 42 W, compared with roughly 32 fps for a Ryzen AI 9 HX 370 handheld in its comparison setup. The settings were not identical: the HX 370 used FSR Balanced while the Max+ 395 used FSR Quality.
Tom’s Hardware reported a Time Spy score of 9,680, close to RTX 4060 performance in that particular benchmark, while noting that the handheld was operating at approximately 70 W. That should not be converted into a claim that the Win 5 matches an RTX 4060 in every game. Results depend on power limits, cooling, drivers, memory allocation, resolution, upscaling, and frame-generation settings.
What 128 GB of unified memory would actually do
The Win 5 uses soldered LPDDR5X-8000 unified memory. CPU software and the Radeon GPU draw from the same pool; this is not conventional system RAM plus separate dedicated graphics memory.
That large capacity could be valuable for:
- Local large-language-model experimentation
- Virtual machines and containers
- Large creative projects and datasets
- Heavy multitasking
- Mod-heavy games and extensive emulation libraries
- Users who specifically need additional headroom for future software
It will not automatically make ordinary games faster. Allocating more of the shared pool to the GPU can leave less memory for Windows and applications, and many games do not need anything close to 128 GB. Because the memory is soldered, buyers cannot purchase a 64 GB model and upgrade it later.

The detachable 80 Wh battery is both a feature and a compromise
Unlike most handhelds, the Win 5 does not use a conventional internal battery. It uses an external, detachable 80 Wh battery module and includes a 180 W DC power adapter.
GPD lists a 565 g weight with the battery removed. That is not the weight of the complete portable gaming setup. Attaching the battery makes the system heavier, and the module can affect rear airflow and fan noise. Disconnecting it while the device is running can shut the system down, so it should not be treated as a true uninterrupted hot-swap battery.
The design does offer useful flexibility: the handheld can be lighter when used at a desk or on external power, while a replaceable external module may be more convenient than an inaccessible internal battery. But buyers who want a simple, light, long-lasting console should understand that the Win 5 changes the usual handheld compromise rather than eliminating it.

OCuLink makes an external GPU setup possible, but it does not guarantee plug-and-play compatibility with every enclosure. Power delivery, drivers, enclosure design, and Windows configuration still matter.
Who should buy the Win 5?
Choose the Ryzen AI Max+ 395 if you need maximum performance
The 395 model makes the most sense for buyers who specifically want the Radeon 8060S, high multicore CPU performance, local AI experimentation, demanding multitasking, or a compact workstation that can also function as a gaming handheld. It is difficult to justify its price for basic 1080p gaming alone.
Choose the Ryzen AI Max 385 if 32 GB is enough
The 385 version is the more rational Win 5 when price, power consumption, and ordinary handheld gaming matter more than maximum performance. It still offers the 120 Hz display, detachable-battery design, Windows flexibility, and high-end AMD platform, but uses the lower-core-count processor and Radeon 8050S graphics.

The current 395/64 GB/2 TB price is far above mainstream handhelds. The Win 5 also lacks an internal battery, can become loud at high power, has soldered memory, and offers a less console-like Windows experience than SteamOS or a dedicated gaming console. Buyers seeking inexpensive portable gaming, predictable battery life, or minimal setup should not choose it solely because the specifications look impressive.
What to verify before ordering
- Confirm the exact CPU: Ryzen AI Max+ 395 or Ryzen AI Max 385.
- Confirm the selected RAM capacity and do not assume the specification table means 128 GB is orderable.
- Check SSD capacity, color, and the displayed stock status.
- Confirm that the external battery and 180 W adapter are included with the selected SKU.
- Check dispatch estimates, warranty coverage in your country, return restrictions, and any duties or taxes.
- Read the store’s DDP terms: displayed prices may include customs duties and taxes, but duties paid on a customer’s behalf may not be refundable on a return.
- If buying for 128 GB specifically, require a live add-to-cart path for that exact configuration.
Verdict
The GPD Win 5 is genuinely available with AMD’s Ryzen AI Max+ 395 and offers unusually strong integrated graphics for a handheld-sized Windows PC. Its 120 Hz VRR display, OCuLink port, high-core-count processor, and unified-memory design make it appealing to enthusiasts and workstation users.
But the headline needs a current-status correction. As of August 18, 2026, the official store visibly supports configurations up to 64 GB, while GPD’s latest support response says the 128 GB model is no longer being manufactured. Treat “up to 128 GB” as a historical or specification-level claim—not a promise that a new 128 GB Win 5 can still be ordered.
