GPD launched the Win Mini (2025) as a refreshed clamshell Windows gaming handheld on January 13, 2025, with shipping scheduled for February 10. It offers three processor configurations—AMD Ryzen 7 8840U, Ryzen AI 9 365 and Ryzen AI 9 HX 370—alongside configurable processor power of up to 35W, a 120Hz variable-refresh display, redesigned cooling and upgraded audio.

The Win Mini 2025 is not a completely new product category. Its main appeal remains the compact 555g clamshell design, integrated backlit keyboard and touchpad. The 2025 refresh adds newer AMD silicon, a larger M.2 2280 SSD format, Hall-effect controls and several hardware and firmware changes, but the 35W figure should be treated as a configurable performance ceiling—not a guarantee of sustained performance, battery life or silence.

Launch date, price and availability

GPD’s technical material lists December 2024 as the product’s launch data, while launch coverage reported the public announcement on January 13, 2025. GizmoChina reported an initial price of approximately 4,800 yuan, or about $654, with shipping expected to begin on February 10, 2025. Those were launch details, not a permanent current price.

The official English sales page may show different prices and configurations depending on region, promotion and memory or storage capacity. At the time of the reported launch, coverage also mentioned a limited white edition of 240 units; that detail comes from secondary reporting and should not be assumed to apply to every current listing. Buyers should verify the exact CPU, RAM, SSD, charger, taxes, return policy and warranty with the seller.

Three processor configurations

The Win Mini 2025 is available with three AMD processor options. The Ryzen 7 8840U is the value-oriented configuration; the Ryzen AI 9 365 sits between it and the flagship; and the Ryzen AI 9 HX 370 provides the strongest integrated graphics option in the range.

Configuration CPU CPU cores/threads Integrated GPU Listed memory and storage
Entry Ryzen 7 8840U 8/16 Radeon 780M 16GB LPDDR5x and 1TB SSD
Midrange Ryzen AI 9 365 10/20 Radeon 880M Availability and exact configuration vary
Flagship Ryzen AI 9 HX 370 12/24 Radeon 890M 32GB or 64GB LPDDR5x, generally with 2TB SSD

The Ryzen 7 8840U is an eight-core, 16-thread Zen 4/Hawk Point chip with a boost clock of up to 5.1GHz and Radeon 780M graphics. The Ryzen AI 9 365 uses the newer Zen 5/Strix Point platform, with 10 cores, 20 threads and a boost clock of up to 5.0GHz. The Ryzen AI 9 HX 370 has 12 cores, 24 threads and a boost clock of up to 5.1GHz.

GPD lists the Radeon 890M in the HX 370 version with 16 compute units and 1,024 shaders. The Radeon 880M in the AI 9 365 and Radeon 780M in the 8840U are listed with 12 compute units and 768 shaders. All use system LPDDR5x-7500 memory rather than dedicated VRAM, so memory capacity and power limits affect both games and general workloads.

The AI 9 365 requires particular care when buying. It appears in GPD’s detailed specification table, but the current English store page has prominently displayed the 8840U and HX 370 as selectable options. Do not assume that all three versions are available in every country or from every retailer.

What the 35W power rating means

GPD lists a configurable processor power range of 20W to 35W. Launch coverage particularly highlighted the HX 370 operating at up to 35W. This gives the larger AMD chips more power headroom than low-power handheld profiles, but “35W TDP” does not mean the system will always sustain 35W.

Package power, total system power and power drawn from the wall are different measurements. Actual gaming performance depends on the game engine, resolution, graphics settings, memory behavior, drivers, fan profile, cooling conditions, whether the device is plugged in and whether upscaling or frame generation is enabled.

A 35W mode may improve frame rates or CPU-heavy performance, especially in demanding games, but it can also increase fan noise, surface temperature and battery drain. A lower power limit may be the better everyday setting when the goal is quieter operation, longer runtime or more consistent frame times. The 35W setting is best understood as a performance mode rather than a universal default.

GPD describes the 2025 model as having a new cooling module, a high-performance fan and an enhanced or thickened heat-pipe design. Its marketing material claims up to 35% improved thermal efficiency, while another official page describes 35% improved heat dissipation and 50% higher thermal conductivity. These are manufacturer claims, not independent measurements of temperature, noise or sustained wattage.

Display: 1080p, 120Hz and variable refresh

The Win Mini uses a 7-inch 16:9 LTPS touchscreen with a resolution of 1,920 × 1,080, a listed density of 314 pixels per inch and 60Hz/120Hz refresh modes. GPD also lists variable refresh rate and AMD FreeSync Premium support. Launch coverage cited 500-nit brightness and 100% sRGB coverage, along with anti-fingerprint and anti-reflective treatments.

A 120Hz panel does not mean the handheld can run games at 120 frames per second. The higher refresh rate can make Windows and supported games feel more responsive, while VRR can reduce tearing and judder when frame rates fluctuate. Modern demanding games may still require 720p output, reduced settings or upscaling to reach high frame rates.

Audio and controls

The refresh adds dual built-in hyper-linear speakers, an independent amplifier or audio-chip component in GPD’s product marketing, and DTS:X or DTS:X Ultra processing intended to create a virtualized surround effect. These features should not be confused with independently measured speaker quality: the launch material does not establish frequency response, maximum loudness or noise-floor results.

Audio support may also vary by model. GPD’s firmware and driver page specifically identifies DTS:X support for the Ryzen AI 9 365 and Ryzen AI 9 HX 370 versions, so buyers should confirm the feature and required software for the exact SKU rather than assuming identical behavior across the range. Details are available on GPD’s firmware and driver page.

Controls include Hall-effect joysticks, linear analog L2/R2 triggers, a D-pad, dual linear vibration motors and a six-axis accelerometer/gyroscope. Programmable L4/R4 macro buttons sit on the rear. The keyboard is backlit and the device has a gamepad/mouse mode switch, which helps it function as a small Windows computer as well as a gaming handheld.

The keyboard and touchpad are useful differentiators for launching games, entering passwords, using desktop applications and troubleshooting Windows. However, the chassis is very small. It is more practical as an emergency or compact input solution than as a comfortable full-time laptop replacement.

Storage and expansion

The 2025 model moves to a more conventional M.2 2280 PCIe 4.0 ×4 NVMe SSD, with GPD listing 1TB and 2TB configurations and support for double-sided drives. This is a practical advantage over handheld PCs that rely on shorter or less widely available SSD formats, although replacing the drive can complicate warranty service.

A UHS-I microSD slot is also included. GPD lists an A2 rating and theoretical speeds of up to 160MB/s read and 120MB/s write. Actual performance depends on the card and device conditions, and microSD storage is not equivalent to NVMe for every modern game. It is better suited to media, emulation libraries and titles that are less sensitive to streaming and loading performance.

Battery, charging and connectivity

The Win Mini 2025 has a listed 44.24Wh lithium-polymer battery and supports 65W USB Power Delivery charging. GPD’s detailed estimates range from roughly three hours of heavy use to six to eight hours of moderate use and up to 14 hours of light use. Another sales summary describes intensive gaming as approximately two to three hours and light use as up to eight hours.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

These are manufacturer estimates, not standardized battery tests. Brightness, refresh rate, game load, processor power, frame-rate limits, wireless radios and whether the system is plugged in can substantially change the result. High-power HX 370 gaming will use the small battery quickly, while light desktop work at a lower power limit can last much longer.

A suitable 65W charger and cable are needed to take advantage of the advertised charging capability. A lower-rated charger may charge more slowly or fail to maintain high-power gaming. GPD also advertises bypass-power support on its store material.

Connectivity includes:

  • USB4 with speeds of up to 40Gbps
  • USB-C 3.2 Gen 2 at up to 10Gbps
  • USB-A 3.2 Gen 2 at up to 10Gbps
  • 3.5mm headphone and microphone jack
  • Wi-Fi 6E and Bluetooth 5.3
  • microSD expansion

The USB4 port supports external GPUs, including GPD’s G1 and third-party USB4 solutions. It is not the same as OCuLink. Buyers who plan to use an external GPU should compare the Win Mini with handhelds that offer OCuLink, which can provide a different bandwidth profile.

Which Win Mini 2025 should you buy?

Ryzen 7 8840U: the value choice

Choose the 8840U model when price and efficiency matter more than peak performance. Its Radeon 780M is appropriate for older games, indie releases, emulation and modern games played with sensible settings at 720p or 1080p. The 16GB configuration may be sufficient for gaming, but it leaves less headroom for demanding multitasking and memory-intensive applications.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

It is not equivalent to the HX 370. The 8840U makes sense when it is substantially cheaper or when the intended games do not need the extra graphics capability.

Ryzen AI 9 365: the middle ground

The AI 9 365 offers newer Zen 5 CPU technology and Radeon 880M graphics without moving all the way to the flagship configuration. It can be attractive when its price is meaningfully below the HX 370, but availability, memory capacity, storage and firmware support must be confirmed with the seller.

Ryzen AI 9 HX 370: maximum integrated graphics

The HX 370 is the strongest choice for buyers who want the highest integrated graphics performance available in the Win Mini 2025 line. Its 32GB or 64GB shared-memory configurations are also useful for productivity, virtual machines and content creation.

The trade-off is cost, heat, fan noise and battery life. The HX 370’s advantage is most relevant in demanding games and CPU-heavy workloads, particularly when connected to power. A 64GB model is not automatically better value for someone who mainly plays older games; integrated graphics performance does not scale proportionally with memory capacity once there is enough RAM for the workload.

Important buying caveats

  • Do not treat 35W as a guaranteed sustained speed. It is the listed upper limit of a configurable 20W–35W range.
  • Do not treat battery estimates as test results. The official figures vary by use case and sales page.
  • Do not generalize DTS:X across every model. GPD’s firmware note identifies model-specific applicability.
  • Check the exact CPU and memory. The AI 9 365 is not exposed equally across all sales pages.
  • Compare warranty terms by retailer. Warranty length, return handling, taxes, plugs and firmware support can vary by country and seller.
  • Do not infer superiority over Steam Deck, ROG Ally X or Legion Go from the specification sheet alone. Matched independent testing would be needed to establish general performance, noise or battery advantages.

The current GPD-MiniPC sales page describes seller-specific terms including a one-year warranty, lifetime repair service, U.S. plugs by default and tax-inclusive delivery to major destinations. These terms can change and should not be assumed to apply to every GPD retailer. The product page is available at GPD-MiniPC.

How it compares with other handheld PCs

The Win Mini 2025’s strongest differentiators are its clamshell form factor, integrated keyboard, 120Hz VRR display, replaceable-style 2280 SSD and USB4 connectivity. The Steam Deck OLED offers a more console-like Steam experience and tighter software integration, but it is not a direct CPU or Windows-laptop equivalent. The ASUS ROG Ally X provides a larger mainstream Windows handheld with a strong support ecosystem, while the Lenovo Legion Go offers a larger display and detachable controllers. Compact AYANEO Windows handhelds may offer similar enthusiast-focused designs, but support, pricing and availability vary by model.

For external-GPU users, USB4 is useful but should be compared directly with OCuLink-equipped alternatives. For buyers who prioritize long battery life, low price or plug-and-play console simplicity, the Win Mini’s premium compact design may be less compelling than a larger or lower-power handheld.

Product prices and availability are accurate as of the date/time indicated and are subject to change. Any price and availability information displayed on Amazon at the time of purchase will apply.
