Start with the platform decision
If you own a PlayStation
GT7 is the relevant choice. It supports PS4 and PS5, with the PS5 version adding the hardware performance and display features associated with that console generation. The PS5 edition supports PlayStation VR2. The PlayStation Store listing also warns that some PS4 features may be absent on PS5, so check the edition and feature notes for the exact hardware you plan to use.
There is no Xbox version of GT7. If your only console is an Xbox Series X|S, the decision is already made: Forza Motorsport is the compatible title.
If you own an Xbox Series X|S
Forza Motorsport is the compatible option. It was designed for Xbox Series X|S and the official Xbox description calls out 4K, HDR and real-time ray tracing capabilities, particularly relevant to Series X hardware and a suitable display. Xbox One is not listed among the supported platforms in the supplied specifications.

If you play on Windows PC
Forza Motorsport is the direct choice in this comparison because Windows PC is an official platform. GT7 is not a Windows release. PC players should still check their system against the current Xbox PC requirements before installing; the evidence here establishes availability, not a universal performance target for every graphics card.
If you are choosing by subscription value
Forza Motorsport is included with Game Pass, so subscribers may not need to purchase it outright. The exact tier, regional catalog and future availability can change, and no retail price or current tier qualification is established here. GT7’s comparison is therefore best made as a standalone PlayStation purchase rather than by assuming an equivalent subscription benefit.
How the two games handle progression
GT7: a campaign that teaches through collecting
GT7’s identity is a campaign-and-collection experience. Progression asks you to acquire cars, learn their characteristics and use them across events. That structure suits players who enjoy building a garage over time, returning to older cars and gradually understanding different classes, drivetrains and tuning choices.
Rank #2
- 1183237
The campaign format gives a new player a reason to move from one category to another instead of selecting every event from a flat menu. It also makes the garage itself part of the achievement: the reward is not only a faster lap, but ownership of a broader set of machines and the knowledge to place each one in the right event.
Forza Motorsport: a car-building career
Forza Motorsport frames progression as a car-building career. The emphasis is on developing vehicles for competition while moving through structured motorsport activities. This is a good fit if you want the game to tell you what type of race or build comes next and you prefer improving a chosen car rather than treating the garage as a collection project.
The two structures overlap—both let you tune and race many cars—but the motivation differs. GT7 makes collecting and learning the historical or technical identity of cars central. Forza makes the process of building a competitive car for a career path and then taking it into multiplayer feel more central.
Which progression is better for a new player?
- Choose GT7 if unlocking and cataloging cars is itself a major reward.
- Choose Forza if you want a clearer build-and-race loop around selected cars.
- Choose either if you mainly intend to practice, create custom races or compete online; progression matters less once you spend most of your time outside the campaign.
Multiplayer: local racing versus online structure
GT7 for same-room racing
GT7’s official product page lists four-player split-screen. That makes it the stronger choice for a household or gaming room where several people will race on one console and display. Confirm the required controllers and local setup for your specific PS4 or PS5 configuration, but the four-player capability is an explicit part of the product description.
Online, GT7 uses Sport mode for organized races. That mode is aimed at players who want scheduled or structured competition rather than only casual free-form lobbies. The quality of a particular online field, matchmaking population or penalty outcome varies over time; no player-count or performance statistic is established here.
Forza for online and PC competition
Xbox emphasizes multiplayer as a core Forza Motorsport feature, and Windows PC support gives PC racers access to the same broad competitive ecosystem. If your friends are divided between Xbox Series consoles and Windows PCs, Forza is the practical platform choice in this pair.
The supplied specifications do not establish a four-player split-screen mode for Forza Motorsport. Do not buy it expecting the same couch-racing setup listed for GT7; verify the current feature list if local multiplayer is a deciding requirement.
Choosing by the people you race with
- List the hardware each regular opponent owns.
- Mark whether races happen online or on one screen.
- Pick GT7 when four-player local play is essential and the group uses PlayStation.
- Pick Forza when Windows PC or Xbox cross-device access is essential and races are primarily online.
Driving feel and realism: what can actually be concluded
Both developers make substantial physics claims. GT7’s official copy says its physics simulation model represents the greatest advancements yet after more than 25 years of development. Xbox describes Forza Motorsport as having advanced physics and powerful assists, alongside new damage and dirt systems.
Those statements establish each game’s design priorities, not an objective ranking. The available evidence contains no independent controlled test that holds car, tire, track, weather, assists, controller, wheel, frame rate and setup constant across both titles. It therefore cannot prove that one game’s physics is universally more realistic.

- Assists: braking, steering, traction and stability aids can make either game feel very different at the same nominal difficulty.
- Input device: a gamepad smooths steering and throttle differently from a force-feedback wheel.
- Car and surface: a front-wheel-drive road car, a high-downforce prototype and a wet circuit expose different parts of a simulation.
- Presentation: damage, dirt, lighting and audio can make a drive feel more authentic even when they do not prove a more accurate tire model.
For a fair personal comparison, use the same class of car, disable or match assists, run several laps on a familiar circuit and judge controllability, braking consistency and how clearly each game communicates grip. Treat the result as your preference, not a universal physics verdict.
Visuals and immersion
GT7 with PlayStation VR2
The PS5 version of GT7 supports PlayStation VR2. For players who already own the headset, this is a major differentiator: the cockpit perspective and sense of scale can change how you read corners, mirrors and braking points. VR requires compatible hardware and a PS5 version; it is not a feature of the PS4 release.
Forza on a modern display
Xbox’s official presentation emphasizes 4K, HDR and real-time ray tracing on track for Series X|S. Those features matter most with a compatible television or monitor and the console performance mode that enables them. PC results depend on hardware and settings, so the console feature description should not be read as a guarantee of identical output on every Windows system.

- Grace Ashcroft, an FBI intelligence analyst who is introverted and easily scared, representing a new type of character for the Resident Evil series. Grace will experience horror from the same perspective as the player as she learns to overcome her fears throughout the course of the story.
- For the first time ever in Resident Evil history, players will be able to freely switch between both first- and third-person perspectives throughout the game.
- An Anniversary to Remember: With March 2026 marking the Resident Evil series’ 30-year anniversary, Resident Evil Requiem marks its own milestone in the franchise.
- Pre-orders for Resident Evil Requiem are now open, with the bonus of Grace’s costume: Apocalypse. Please note that the picture weapon does not come with the costume, but it can be obtained in-game.
Choose the display ecosystem you already have
Do not buy new hardware solely for a marketing label. GT7 is the more distinctive choice if VR2 is already in your setup. Forza is the more straightforward choice if you have a Series X|S, a high-dynamic-range display and want the ray-traced presentation described by Xbox.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute2Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors3Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesContent scale and updates
GT7 continues to receive content. Sony’s October 14, 2026 announcement for Spec IV Part 1 lists six new cars, the Sportsland Sugo circuit, new events, additional Scapes locations and gameplay features. The official GT7 product page lists 42 locations and 122 layouts after that October 2026 update.
Those numbers are time-stamped, post-update figures for GT7. They should not be used to claim a permanent advantage over Forza because the games’ catalogs change and the available comparison describes their car and track counts from different snapshots. If exact current totals matter to you, check each game’s live official catalog immediately before purchase.
Forza Motorsport’s update cadence and current content total are not quantified in the supplied specifications. That is not evidence of a smaller or larger roster; it simply means a reliable apples-to-apples number is not established here.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Wheel and controller considerations
Both games are designed to support serious driving input, but the available evidence does not provide a verified, current wheel-compatibility matrix. Model compatibility, console generation, firmware, force-feedback behavior and PC drivers can change. If you are buying a wheel specifically for one title, confirm the exact model against the game’s current support documentation and your platform before spending money.
For a controller, compare the games with identical assists and sensitivity habits rather than assuming one default preset represents the full simulation. Start with moderate assists, learn braking points, then remove aids one at a time. This isolates whether a difference comes from the physics model or from your input setup.

Common questions answered directly
Is Gran Turismo 7 better than Forza Motorsport?
It is better for PlayStation owners, car collectors, four-player split-screen and PS VR2 users. Forza is better for Xbox Series X|S and Windows PC owners, Game Pass subscribers and players whose priority is structured online racing. “Better” is therefore a platform-and-preference decision, not a universal ranking.
Should I buy GT7 or Forza Motorsport?
Buy GT7 when you have a PS4 or PS5 and want its campaign, collection loop or local multiplayer. Buy Forza when you have an Xbox Series X|S or Windows PC, especially if Game Pass already covers access.
Does GT7 work on Xbox?
No. GT7 is listed for PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5, not Xbox.
Can I play Forza Motorsport on PS5?
No. Forza Motorsport is listed for Xbox Series X|S and Windows PC, not PlayStation 5.
Which is more realistic?
Neither can be declared the objective winner from the available evidence. Both advertise substantial physics work, and your car, assists, input device and conditions change the result you feel.
Is Forza Motorsport included in Game Pass?
Xbox lists it as included with Game Pass. Check your region and subscription tier because catalog access can change.
Which is better for a racing wheel?
Neither has a universally better wheel experience established here. Verify support for your exact wheel, platform and current firmware before purchasing; compatibility details are model-specific and can change.
A practical decision checklist
- Console or PC: PS4/PS5 points to GT7; Xbox Series X|S/Windows points to Forza.
- Subscription: Game Pass may remove Forza’s standalone purchase requirement.
- Progression: choose collecting and learning in GT7, or structured car building in Forza.
- Multiplayer: choose GT7 for listed four-player split-screen; choose Forza for Xbox-and-PC online access.
- Immersion: choose GT7 for PS VR2, or Forza for the Series X|S 4K/HDR/ray-tracing presentation.
- Physics expectations: test both with matched settings rather than trusting an absolute realism claim.
Bottom line
Gran Turismo 7 and Forza Motorsport are complementary racing sims rather than interchangeable versions of the same product. GT7 is the PlayStation-centered campaign and collection game, strengthened by four-player split-screen and PS VR2 on PS5. Forza Motorsport is the Xbox-and-Windows racer, strengthened by Game Pass access, structured multiplayer and a car-building career. Pick the one that matches your hardware and the way you want to spend your time; the evidence does not justify choosing on a claim that one has universally superior physics.
