Where to find the fireplace puzzle
The puzzle appears during the pursuit through the Grand Carpathian Hotel in 007: First Light. After Bond loses sight of the blond man, enter the dining room and look above the fireplace. The animal-selection mechanism is mounted there.

Before interacting with the symbols, inspect the torn page or mechanical sketch beside the fireplace. This is the clue the game expects you to use. If the mechanism seems unclear, make sure you have examined that page first.
What the torn page means
The drawing shows a composite creature: a chimera. Its body combines parts associated with several animals, directing you to the three animal symbols represented on the fireplace mechanism. The relevant choices are a lion, a goat (sometimes labeled “ram”), and a snake.

1. Examine the clue
- Approach the fireplace in the dining room.
- Interact with the nearby torn page or mechanical sketch.
- Read the image as a chimera clue rather than as a separate code or written combination.
2. Select the three animals
Use the fireplace controls to select these symbols:
- Lion
- Goat or ram, depending on the label shown in your game
- Snake
3. Choose an order
Walkthroughs do not describe the order identically. AltChar and All Things How state that the three selections can be made in any order. PC Gamer presents lion → goat → snake as its sequence. There is no cited developer statement establishing that one order is mandatory, so use lion, goat, then snake as the simplest sequence; if the game accepts inputs in any order, the same three symbols are still the solution.

4. Enter the concealed passage
After the correct three symbols are registered, the fireplace mechanism activates and the fireplace opens. Move through the hidden passage to resume the pursuit. No additional hotel code is required for this puzzle.
If the fireplace does not open
Confirm that the clue was inspected
Return to the torn page or mechanical sketch and interact with it directly. The page is the intended trigger for understanding the chimera image and may need to be examined before the symbols can be used correctly.

Check the animal label
The middle choice may appear as goat or ram. These labels refer to the same required animal for this puzzle. Do not substitute another horned animal simply because its icon looks similar.
Use the documented sequence
If you tried a different order and received no response, reset the interaction and enter lion, goat (or ram), then snake. This follows the sequence printed by PC Gamer while remaining consistent with the three-symbol solution reported by other walkthroughs.

Look for the opening
Success is shown by the fireplace moving aside to reveal a passage. If it remains closed, one of the three selected symbols is wrong, the goat/ram choice was missed, or the nearby clue has not been inspected yet. Recheck those points rather than searching the room for a second combination.

The puzzle is a visual interpretation challenge, not a random-symbol lock. The torn mechanical sketch depicts a chimera, and the mechanism asks you to identify the lion, goat or ram, and snake components. Solving it removes the obstruction in the dining room and provides the route needed to continue Bond’s hotel chase.
