The classic PC version of Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas is officially listed for Windows 10 64-bit. Before buying or installing it, verify that you mean the classic game—not the separate Definitive Edition—and that you can meet Rockstar’s account, activation, internet, and entitlement requirements.
Yes—the classic PC version is officially listed for Windows 10 64-bit
Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas (the original classic PC game) is currently listed by Rockstar as supporting Windows 10 64-bit at both the minimum and recommended specification tiers. That makes Windows 10 a supported target for the classic game, but it does not mean every modern laptop or old boxed copy will install and activate without qualification.

The important distinction is the edition. The classic PC release has very modest legacy hardware requirements; Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas – The Definitive Edition is a separate 2021 release within Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy – The Definitive Edition and needs far more capable hardware and substantially more storage.
Which San Andreas are you buying or installing?

| Windows OS listed by Rockstar | Windows 10 64-bit | Windows 10 64-bit |
| Minimum RAM | 256 MB | 8 GB |
| Minimum graphics | 64 MB DirectX 9-compatible card; GeForce3 or better | GeForce GTX 760 2 GB or Radeon R9 280 3 GB |
| Storage requirement | 4.7 GB | 45 GB |

Use the product name, cover art, and requirements to identify the edition before purchasing. A listing that simply says “GTA San Andreas for Windows” is not precise enough to tell you which version it is.

Classic PC requirements for Windows 10
For the original classic PC game, Rockstar lists the following requirements.
| Component | Minimum | Recommended |
|---|---|---|
| Operating system | Windows 10 64-bit | Windows 10 64-bit |
| Processor | 1 GHz Intel Pentium or AMD Athlon | Intel Pentium 4 or AMD Athlon XP |
| Memory | 256 MB RAM | 384 MB RAM |
| Graphics | 64 MB DirectX 9-compatible card; GeForce3 or better | 128 MB card; GeForce6 or better |
| Sound | DirectX 9-compatible sound | DirectX 9-compatible sound |
| Storage | 4.7 GB free space | 4.7 GB free space |
| Controls | Keyboard and mouse | Keyboard and mouse |
| Optical drive | 8x DVD-ROM drive | 16x DVD-ROM drive |
Those figures describe an older game, not a universal compatibility guarantee. Rockstar specifically cautions that some mobile chipsets, integrated graphics cards, AGP graphics cards, and hardware not listed in its specifications may be incompatible. In practice, a computer can exceed the numerical requirements yet still fall outside the configurations Rockstar identifies as compatible.
What you need before you start
- Windows 10 64-bit. The current listing is specifically for the 64-bit edition of Windows 10.
- A legitimate game entitlement. A serial code can be registered only once, is tied to one Rockstar Games account, and cannot be transferred after use.
- A Rockstar Games account. Rockstar says account login is required for installation and online play.
- An internet connection. Internet is required for activation, online play, and periodic entitlement verification.
- Rockstar platform software and required components. Rockstar lists its platform software, DirectX, Chromium, and Microsoft Visual C++ 2008 SP1 Redistributable Package among the required installations.
The Rockstar Games Launcher currently includes the classic PC Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas among its supported titles. That helps establish current launcher support, but it does not override the entitlement, internet, or hardware conditions above.

Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →Installing a physical PC DVD-ROM copy
If you are evaluating a used or boxed copy, the accurate description is “Grand Theft Auto San Andreas PC DVD-ROM.” The original PC documentation instructs players to insert the game DVD into a DVD-ROM drive, and Rockstar’s current requirements still list a DVD-ROM drive.
Before relying on a physical listing, verify all three points:

- Enjoy expansive cinematic sound. Big 50 mm audio drivers deliver an incredible sound experience
- Hear Enemies From All Sides. DTS Headphone:X 2.0 surround sound(1) lets you hear enemies sneaking behind you, special ability cues, and immersive environments. It’s positional clarity that can make the difference between victory and defeat. Experience three-dimensional audio that goes beyond 7.1 channels to make you feel like you’re right in the middle of the action. (1) DTS Headphone:X 2.0 requires Logitech G HUB Software.
- Be Heard Loud and Clear. The big 6 mm boom mic makes sure you’re heard by gaming partners and mutes when flipped up.
- Use One Headset For Most Game Platforms. Your headphones work with your PC or Mac via USB DAC or 3.5 mm cable, mobile devices with 3.5 mm cable or with gaming consoles including PlayStationⓇ 5 and PlayStationⓇ 4 (USB wireless stereo sound only), Nintendo Switch (wireless stereo sound when docked)
- Game for Hours in Comfort. Everything about these headphones is about comfort: The deluxe lightweight leatherette ear cups and headband are made to keep pressure off your ears. Ear cups rotate up to 90 degrees for convenience.
- It is the PC DVD-ROM edition, not a console disc, an empty case, or a download-code-only package.
- The actual disc is included and in usable condition.
- The serial/activation status is usable. A previously redeemed serial may not be registered to another Rockstar Games account.
Many current PCs have no optical drive. An external USB DVD drive can be useful if you already own a compatible physical disc and only need a way to read it. It is not a performance upgrade and is not a general fix for installation, activation, or compatibility problems.
Definitive Edition: do not use the classic requirements
If the listing is for Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas – The Definitive Edition, do not judge it by the classic game’s 256 MB RAM and 4.7 GB storage figures. Rockstar lists a minimum of 8 GB RAM, 45 GB storage, and a GeForce GTX 760 with 2 GB of VRAM or Radeon R9 280 with 3 GB of VRAM. It is a different product with a different performance profile.
This is especially important for buyers with entry-level laptops: “Windows 10 compatible” alone does not establish that the Definitive Edition will meet the graphics requirement. Check the computer’s exact GPU model and available graphics memory against the edition you intend to play.
Content rating: edition matters here too
The ESRB record for the original game lists Windows PC as a platform and currently labels it Adults Only 18+, with content descriptors including Blood and Gore, Intense Violence, Nudity, Strong Language, Strong Sexual Content, and Use of Drugs. The separate Definitive Edition ESRB record is rated Mature 17+. Do not assume that the rating for one release applies to the other.

Quick buying and compatibility checklist
- Confirm whether the listing is the classic PC game or the Definitive Edition.
- For the classic game, confirm that the PC runs Windows 10 64-bit.
- Check that the computer is not relying on a graphics or chipset configuration Rockstar warns may be incompatible.
- Make sure you can log in to a Rockstar Games account and connect to the internet for activation and periodic verification.
- For a used physical copy, confirm the disc, edition, and unused/usable serial situation before purchase.
- For a disc-only setup, make sure you have a DVD-ROM drive or an external USB DVD drive.
- For the Definitive Edition, check the separate 8 GB RAM, GTX 760/R9 280-class graphics, and 45 GB storage minimums.
Common mistakes to avoid
“It says San Andreas, so the requirements are the same.” They are not. The classic game and Definitive Edition have radically different minimum specifications.
“Any Windows 10 PC is supported.” Rockstar lists Windows 10 64-bit, while also warning that some mobile, integrated, AGP, and unlisted hardware can be incompatible.
“A used serial should work if the disc is present.” Not necessarily. Rockstar’s registration policy makes serial registration single-use, account-bound, and non-transferable.
“An external DVD drive will solve compatibility issues.” It only addresses the absence of an optical drive for a compatible physical disc. It does not change the account, activation, entitlement, or hardware requirements.
