How long is a full day in Gray Zone Warfare?
One in-game day lasts three real-world hours: two hours of daylight followed by one hour of night. Dawn and dusk mark the transition. These timings were published for Update 0.2; the cited announcement does not establish whether they remain unchanged in later builds. MADFINGER Games explains the cycle in its Daylight to Darkness overview.

Why lighting matters
Night changes how far players can see and how they approach buildings and engagements. Outdoor light sources such as lamp posts, as well as indoor fixtures such as candles, can reveal positions. Breaker boxes let players switch building lights on or off, making illumination a tactical choice rather than mere scenery.
Night vision and other night gear
Update 0.2 added night-vision goggles (NVGs), flashlights, lasers, and infrared lasers. The developer’s overview describes three in-game NVG tiers: the PVS-7, a lower-tier single-tube biocular; the PVS-14, a monocular; and the PVS-31A, a dual-tube white-phosphor system. Those descriptions concern the game’s representations, not independent tests of real-world equipment.
MADFINGER says the analog NVGs in the game amplify available light rather than producing light themselves. Their restricted field of view, interference from intense light and muzzle flashes, lens wear effects, and compatibility issues with some optics are trade-offs to consider when choosing how to move at night.
Which weapons were added?
The changelog lists seven new firearms:
- MP5
- Colt M1911
- AKS-74U
- AK-12
- AK-15
- AK-19
- AK-308
Beyond new guns, the patch revised ammunition and armor balance. It also introduced limited vendor stock for some items and valuable loot to sell or extract, changing how players might obtain and manage equipment.

What changed to tasks and progression?
Night Ops added 22 tasks and revised earlier ones. Some objectives are time-specific, while others were changed or moved. The update also adjusted task rewards and how players track or complete objectives.
- Task rewards gained expiration timers.
- Failed tasks appear in the finished-task list and may have consequences.
- Reminders flag items that are critical to tasks.
- Keys needed for progression can be found in the world as well as on enemies.
- Task items stored in a locker can be turned in.
The patch also reset player progress. MADFINGER framed the wipe as a level playing field for the new challenges and noted that wipes are part of Early Access development in its Night Ops launch announcement.
How did Night Ops change gear durability and storage?
Durability and worn parts
Weapons and items can lose durability through use or damage. The changelog says worn parts may need to be replaced; the pre-release Operational Improvements II developer post discusses degradation of weapon components, armor, NVGs, and other equipment. For the actual Update 0.2 feature, the published changelog establishes durability and replacement of worn parts, not a broader repair system.
Locker organization and capacity
The update added locker cases for weapons, armor, ammunition, provisions, and medical supplies. Locker capacity can increase through progression. Item packing, filters, and 3D previews were also added to make stored gear easier to organize and inspect.

What changed for squads and the interface?
Night Ops added faction chat, waypoints shared with squadmates, a reporting system, faction patches to help identify players, and emotes. An aggressor system was intended to discourage harmful behavior toward members of the same faction. The update also improved messages and friend management.
Interface changes included clearer task and vendor information, improved map zoom, expanded health information and status indicators, and control adjustments. The overview also called out an enhanced health panel.
What quality-of-life changes and fixes were included?
The full changelog lists many additional improvements. Examples include toggle keybinds for several controls, diagonal sprinting, the ability to deactivate an active headset, faster helicopter travel with adjusted routes, improved landing-zone indicators, updated environments, better ultrawide support, and removal of motion blur.
The fixes address a broad range of issues, including gameplay exploits, hit registration, item and task handling, collision and navigation, world geometry, interface and visual problems, and multiplayer or social behavior. These are examples from the grouped changelog, not an exhaustive list; consult the complete official Update 0.2 notes for every listed change.
