To beat the Masked Stranger in Grounded 2, prepare and repair your gear before activating the scanner at the start of Level 05 in the Network Center. Block her ordinary sword attacks, perfect-block her charged thrust and leap, and leave the marked circle when she starts her later Spicy AoE. The fight has three stages: the Stranger’s opening attacks, a healing phase change with stronger moves, and a final battle against Bandit the O.R.C. Wolf Spider. Defeating the Stranger herself is not the end—the spider must also go down.

Where the Network Center fight starts

The first Masked Stranger encounter begins when you activate the scanner at the start of Level 05 in the Network Center. The Grounded Wiki’s encounter guide says you have unlimited time to prepare in that room before she jumps down, so use it to repair equipment and make sure your gear has enough durability for the fight. Grounded Wiki: Masked Stranger

Keep this encounter distinct from the later Garden appearance. Obsidian’s January 27, 2026 Toxic Tangle announcement says, “The Masked Stranger may have retreated after your first encounter, but she’s not gone—and she may not be alone,” confirming a return in the Garden questline without establishing that the later fight uses the same moves or mechanics. Obsidian Entertainment / Grounded 2, “Grounded 2 Update: The Toxic Tangle – Available Now!”

How the three stages work

Stage 1: Block the sword attacks and punish her guard

The opening stage uses single slashes, two- and three-hit combinations, a charged thrust, a leap attack, and a defensive stance. The guide also attributes Sizzle buildup to her attacks, making durable equipment and protection against Sizzle useful considerations. Her ordinary slashes and combos can be blocked; reserve perfect blocks for the charged thrust and leap, which can break your guard.

When she raises her blocking stance, she advances while resisting light attacks from the front. Don’t keep hitting into it: the guide warns that attacking just as the stance begins can get you perfect-blocked and stunned. A charged attack can interrupt the stance. Move in after her attack sequence rather than trying to trade hits while she is defending.

Stage 2: Expect a heal and a stronger moveset

At a point in the fight, the Stranger drinks what appears to be a Liquid Rage and restores health while becoming temporarily immune to damage during the animation. Treat this as a phase transition, not a reset caused by failing to deal damage. The guides disagree on the exact trigger and how much health she restores: the Grounded Wiki places it at 40% of total health and describes a full heal, while Gamer Guides says she drinks a rage potion below 50% HP and restores some health. Focus on the visible animation rather than relying on a precise threshold. Grounded Wiki: Masked Stranger; Gamer Guides: Ranger Challenge Quests – Grounded 2

After the heal, her attacks become more dangerous. The listed moves include a four-hit spinning combo and a fast combo that ends in the charged attack. Keep blocking the ordinary hits, but watch for the finisher and perfect-block it rather than letting your guard break.

Stage 3: Evade the Spicy AoE, then fight Bandit

The later stage adds a Spicy area attack. When a circle marks the blast radius, get outside it or time a dodge for the detonation; the wiki describes the attack as unblockable. The guides differ on when this stage begins: the wiki lists 30% of total health, while Gamer Guides says roughly one third. Use the new attack and transition as your cue, not an exact percentage.

Next, the Stranger retreats and summons Bandit, a named O.R.C. Wolf Spider. Switch your attention to the spider and handle it as a separate boss with a different attack pattern. Defeating Bandit ends the encounter; the wiki says the Stranger teleports away and unlocks a door containing the Turbo Optical Disk, Sizzling Key, and Charred Recipe for the Spicy Coaltana.

What equipment and tactics help?

  • Repair first: The Network Center gauntlet can leave equipment worn down. Enter with repaired gear or enough durability for the full encounter.
  • Consider fast attacks: The Grounded Wiki suggests weapons such as Weaver Daggers or Northern Shredders because of the Stranger’s attack speed. Gamer Guides recommends anti-Sizzle effects. These are guide recommendations, not a verified optimal build.
  • Don’t rely on ordinary ranged damage against the Stranger: The wiki says her movement speed makes most ranged weapons ineffective. Save arrows for a deliberate workaround, or use ranged damage against Bandit if it suits your build.
  • Read the attack, not just the opening: Block standard sword hits, perfect-block the charged thrust and leap, and stop attacking when she enters her forward-moving guard.
  • Respect the marked AoE: Leave the circle or dodge at detonation; blocking is not a safe answer to the Spicy blast.

Conventional combat or the old arena-geometry cheese?

Approach Current-patch reliability What it asks of you Best fit
Conventional combat Guides describe the phases and attacks, but do not establish current tuning independently. Learn sword patterns, manage guard, evade the AoE, and fight Bandit as a separate boss. Players who want a supported, pattern-based strategy.
Arena-geometry cheese Uncertain: the August 3, 2025 guide warns the method may have been patched. Use a bow and arrows to shoot the Stranger after baiting her into an arena obstruction; the guide suggests ideally 70 or more arrows, with 30–50 potentially workable if recovered. It describes circling the PTS machine and shooting Bandit, dodging when the spider jumps, as trickier. Players willing to try an older workaround rather than learn the full fight.

The cheese method comes from Jake Bishop’s Clawsome Gamer guide, published and updated August 3, 2025. It also lists basic armor and bandages as supplies. Because the author flags it as potentially patched—and the Bandit portion as harder—treat it as an optional experiment, not a dependable way through the current build.
