Grounded launched on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, and Nintendo Switch on April 16, 2024. The release arrived alongside the Fully Yoked 1.4 update, and players on those systems can join the game’s cross-platform pool with Xbox and PC players.
When did Grounded come to PlayStation and Nintendo Switch?
Obsidian Entertainment announced the additional platforms in February 2024 and released the PS4, PS5, and Switch versions on April 16, 2024. Update 1.4 went live across platforms on the same date. The PlayStation release page lists both console generations, while Nintendo’s US store lists the Switch version with that release date. Obsidian’s release announcement and the Nintendo US listing document the launch.

That date is the original 2024 launch, not a new 2026 release. In its announcement, Obsidian also reported that more than 20 million players had visited the backyard since Early Access began in 2020; that is a publisher-reported historical total, not a current player count.
Can PlayStation and Switch players play with Xbox and PC?
Yes. Grounded supports cross-play among Xbox, PlayStation, Nintendo Switch, and PC, according to Obsidian’s Fully Yoked 1.4 announcement. That means friends can play together across those platforms rather than needing to own the game on the same system.

What do you need to set up cross-play?
Cross-play involves two separate requirements: linking a Microsoft/Xbox account for the game’s cross-platform features, and meeting your console’s online-service requirements. Obsidian’s cross-play support guide, dated April 11, 2024, says a free Xbox Live account is needed for cross-platform multiplayer, Shared Worlds, and uploading or downloading Playgrounds. Players also need the subscription to their platform’s online service for those online features.
- Open Options in Grounded and turn on Enable Crossplay.
- Continue to the Microsoft/Xbox account-linking flow.
- Complete the code-based sign-in with the Microsoft account you want linked.
Obsidian says only one Microsoft/Xbox account can be linked to a copy of the game, so choose carefully. Nintendo’s listing identifies Nintendo Switch Online as required for online play; PlayStation’s page says online features require a PlayStation account. These are platform requirements, separate from the Microsoft account used for cross-platform functions.
For a mixed-platform group that includes a Nintendo player, Obsidian recommends that someone on another platform host for the best experience. This is the publisher’s recommendation, not a statement that a Nintendo player cannot host.

How do multiplayer and Shared Worlds work?
The official platform descriptions specify online play for up to four players. Nintendo’s US listing distinguishes solo single-system play from online multiplayer: it lists one player for single-system play and one to four online. It does not list local multiplayer. The listing also notes that features may differ on Nintendo Switch Lite.

What does the Fully Yoked update add?
Fully Yoked is the name associated with the 1.4 update released alongside the new console versions. Obsidian’s announcement highlights ant queens, New Game+, remixed yards, additional challenges and rewards, and more achievements. Nintendo’s current product description also calls out ant queens, New Game+, and new gear.

Obsidian described 1.4 at the time as “the last planned content update for Grounded.” That wording describes the publisher’s plan announced in 2024; it does not establish that no maintenance patches or platform changes have happened since.
The 2024 release announcement also introduced Playgrounds, an in-game creative mode for building experiences such as arenas, escape rooms, and races. Obsidian said it included more than 300 world props and more than 400 items; those are the publisher’s counts from that announcement, not a newly verified current tally.

Nintendo’s US store currently presents Grounded as a digital edition. Separately, Obsidian announced physical editions for Nintendo Switch and PS5, among other platforms, through Limited Run Games. That announcement establishes that physical editions were planned or offered around the release; it does not confirm current stock or availability.

The Nintendo US listing gives a 3.5 GB file size and supports TV, tabletop, and handheld modes. Store details can change, and this information is specific to the US listing. The PlayStation US page lists PS4 and PS5 and notes that platform features and online services can vary by country and may change or be retired.
Are there performance differences between the versions?
The official sources establish which systems are supported and describe online features, but they do not establish comparative resolution, frame rates, or performance between PS4, PS5, and Switch. Those details should not be inferred from the platform listings alone.
