The Corrupted Update was a July 2025 expansion of Grow a Garden’s Zen event. Historically, players could obtain the Corrupt mutation through Corrupted weather, a pet ability, or Corrupt Channeller tree progression, while completing quests and balancing fruit submissions unlocked event rewards. The sources establish those past mechanics only; whether the event, routes, or rewards are available in the live game in October 2026 is unresolved.
What was the Corrupted Update?
Update 1.16.0, titled the Corrupted Update, is dated July 26, 2025, in the archived update log. The archive reproduces an announcement describing new rewards, seeds, pets, gear, and more, and says the update details were originally posted in the official Grow a Garden Discord update channel. It also describes the update as an expansion of the Zen event.
The following mechanics and figures are historical descriptions, not confirmation of current live-game behavior.
How could players get the Corrupt mutation?
Contemporary guides described three ways to pursue Corrupt crops. The sources do not compare their efficiency, and none verifies that these routes remain active.

| Historical route | How it worked | What the source establishes |
|---|---|---|
| Corrupted weather | Corrupted orbs emerged from the map center and could apply Corrupt to crops they hit, according to Pro Game Guides. A separate fan reference reports that Corrupted Zen Aura replaced regular Zen Aura with a 1-in-3 chance, ran for 10 minutes, and applied Corrupt to a crop every 30 seconds. | These are event-era descriptions. The 1-in-3 chance, duration, and interval are reported by the unaffiliated fan reference, not established as current rates. Pro Game Guides; Grow a Garden Pro. |
| Corrupt Channeller and tree | Complete requested-fruit quests for the Corrupt Channeller to raise corruption levels and progress the Corrupted Tree. The update archive says the levels unlocked the ability for more mutations during the event; Pro Game Guides also describes giving requested Tranquil plants to the Channeller to grow the tree. | The progression and quest descriptions are historical. The archive says corruption levels reset every Zen event. Update log; Pro Game Guides. |
| Corrupted Kodama | PC Gamer lists the Corrupted Kodama pet as another route to Corrupt crops. | The article identifies this as an event-era route, but the available sources do not establish its current availability or provide a verified comparison with the other methods. PC Gamer. |
What should you give the Corrupt Channeller?
Historically, the Channeller requested fruit for quests. The archived update notes describe these quests as awarding rewards and raising corruption levels; Pro Game Guides specifically describes giving requested Tranquil plants to the Channeller to grow the Corrupted Tree. Follow the request shown in the game rather than assuming a fixed fruit list: the available sources do not establish a universal request sequence.
How did the Corrupted Tree and fruit submissions work?
The archived update notes describe balancing the tree by submitting an even amount of Tranquil-mutated and Corrupt-mutated fruit. Those submissions could earn rewards. Pro Game Guides also describes submitting Corrupt crops and Tranquil fruit to Kitsune for rewards; that is a separate submission description, so it should not be confused with the tree’s balancing requirement.
