The Zen Tree grows when you turn in Tranquil crops to the Zen Channeller; Tanuki converts Tranquil crops into Chi for the Tranquil Treasures shop. Historical guides list seven tree stages, requiring 40 to 325 Chi each. The event’s current availability and mechanics have not been confirmed, so check the live game before relying on the schedule or figures below.
How the Zen Event loop works
- Look for the event. Historical references describe the Zen Event as starting at the top of every hour, with a chance for garden fruit to gain the Tranquil mutation. That schedule is not verified as current. See the Update Log 1.15.0 and PC Gamer’s July 2025 coverage for launch-era descriptions.
- Collect Tranquil crops. Fruit with the Tranquil mutation is what the historical guides describe as eligible for the NPC turn-ins.
- Choose your goal. Take crops to the Zen Channeller to advance the Zen Tree, or to Tanuki to receive Chi for shop purchases. The sources do not establish which option gives better value, so choose based on whether you want tree progression or an available shop item.
Zen Tree stages and listed Chi requirements
The Zen Channeller applies Tranquil crop turn-ins to the tree’s progression. A Grow a Garden Pro event guide lists seven stages and these Chi requirements; they are not independently confirmed by a current official source.
| Zen Tree stage | Listed Chi required |
|---|---|
| 1 | 40 |
| 2 | 60 |
| 3 | 90 |
| 4 | 130 |
| 5 | 180 |
| 6 | 245 |
| 7 | 325 |
These are the listed requirements for their respective stages, not a verified current cost schedule. Check the tree’s live in-game progress display if its requirements differ.
What tree stages unlock
Each stage is described as unlocking its corresponding Tranquil Treasures shop item and granting a reward. The event guide names Zen Eggs, Zen Seed Packs, Zen Crates, Zen Gnome Crates, and Chi among the rewards, but does not provide a dependable stage-by-stage reward list here. A separate guide says rewards continue after stage seven even though the tree has no further named stage; it does not establish a precise repeat reward. See the Grow a Garden Pro Zen Event guide and community Zen Event overview for those historical descriptions.

Zen Channeller or Tanuki: where should crops go?
| NPC | Turn-in outcome | Use it when |
|---|---|---|
| Zen Channeller | Progress toward the Zen Tree’s next stage and its unlock/reward | You want tree progression |
| Tanuki | Chi to spend in Tranquil Treasures | You want an item currently available in the shop |
The historical guide reports that Tranquil Treasures restocks every 60 minutes. Treat that interval as source-reported rather than guaranteed current behavior, and check the in-game shop for its current stock and timing. The available sources do not quantify crop values or compare the efficiency of the two turn-in routes.
