The gsdx32-avx-r5350.dll error usually means an older PCSX2 installation cannot load its 32-bit GSdx graphics plugin. The safest fix is to restore or reinstall the complete PCSX2 package that supplied the file, rather than downloading the DLL separately.
Which fix applies to you
Use the symptom that best matches your case:
- The file is genuinely absent from the PCSX2 folder: reinstall or restore the exact PCSX2 build.
- Windows Security recently detected or quarantined it: inspect Protection history, then reinstall PCSX2 from a clean official package.
- The message says “specified module could not be found”: the named DLL may exist, but one of its dependencies may be missing.
- The message says “not designed to run on Windows” or “contains an error”: suspect corruption, a mismatched 32-bit or 64-bit component, or an incompatible build.
- PCSX2 reports “File is not a valid dynamic library” or “Some kinda plugin failure”: the plugin does not match the emulator’s version or plugin interface.
- PCSX2 crashes only when GSdx starts: check AVX support, graphics drivers, and the selected renderer.
- You are still using an old r5350 or 1.0-era build: repairing it may be less reliable than moving to a current official PCSX2 release.
The filename alone cannot identify the exact cause. The full error, PCSX2 version, CPU model, and installation path matter.
What gsdx32-avx-r5350.dll is
This is not a Windows system DLL. It is an old 32-bit GSdx graphics plugin used by older builds of PCSX2, the PlayStation 2 emulator. Historical PCSX2 installations placed files with this naming pattern in a folder such as:

PCSX2 1.0.0Plugins
The parts of the filename are useful:
gsdxidentifies the GSdx graphics plugin.32means the plugin is 32-bit and belongs with a 32-bit PCSX2 executable.avxidentifies a build optimized for processors supporting AVX instructions.r5350refers to an old PCSX2 revision or build family.
Third-party file metadata reports GSdx as a PS2 emulator graphics plugin associated with Gabest, with a reported version and size. Those values describe an old file index entry, not a current PCSX2 release and not a verified Windows component.
A 64-bit edition of Windows can run a 32-bit PCSX2 program. The important rule is that the emulator, plugin, and required runtime must be compatible with one another. Do not place this file in C:WindowsSystem32, C:WindowsSysWOW64, or a random game folder.
Fix 1: Check antivirus quarantine
Antivirus software may remove or quarantine an old emulator plugin, especially if the original package is outdated or was obtained from an untrusted source.
- Press Windows and type Windows Security.
- Open Windows Security.
- Select Virus & threat protection.
- Choose Protection history.
- Look for an entry involving PCSX2 or
gsdx32-avx-r5350.dll. - Expand the entry and record the detection name.
- If the file came from a known, intact PCSX2 installer or archive, use Actions and choose Restore only when that option is available.
- Start PCSX2 and test the graphics plugin.
If the file returns to quarantine, do not repeatedly restore it or disable antivirus protection. Remove the old installation and obtain a clean PCSX2 package from the official PCSX2 project. If the detection identifies a serious threat, keep the file quarantined and perform a full scan.
Restoring one DLL is not a substitute for reinstalling the emulator. A clean installation also restores matching executables, configuration files, plugins, and dependencies.
Fix 2: Reinstall the complete matching PCSX2 build
This is the most likely solution when the DLL is missing.

Before removing PCSX2, back up your user data:
- Open PCSX2 and check Settings or Config for the folders used for memory cards, saves, BIOS files, and settings.
- Close PCSX2.
- Copy those folders to another location.
- If the old PCSX2 installation is portable, copy the entire folder as a backup.
Then repair the installation:
- Open Settings with Windows + I.
- Select Apps and then Installed apps.
- Find PCSX2.
- Select the three-dot menu and choose Uninstall, if PCSX2 was installed through Windows.
- Delete only the remaining old program folder after confirming that your saves and memory cards are backed up.
- Download a complete installer or archive from the official PCSX2 project, not an isolated DLL page.
- Install it to a new folder rather than mixing files with the old installation.
- Start PCSX2 and select the correct BIOS, memory-card, and graphics settings.
- Test a game with the default graphics configuration before changing advanced options.
If you must keep the old emulator for a particular setup, restore the same old PCSX2 build that originally supplied the plugin. Do not copy only gsdx32-avx-r5350.dll into a newer PCSX2 folder. Old and current PCSX2 releases use different application and plugin layouts.
The repair worked if PCSX2 opens without a plugin-loader error and GSdx appears in its graphics settings. If the same message returns immediately, continue with the dependency checks below.

Fix 3: Install the correct Visual C++ runtime
A message stating that the “specified module could not be found” can mean that Windows cannot find a dependency required by the named DLL. The DLL itself may be present.
For an old 32-bit PCSX2 installation, investigate the x86 Visual C++ runtime first. Installing only the x64 package does not satisfy a 32-bit application.
- Open Microsoft’s Latest Supported Visual C++ Redistributable Downloads page.
- Download the supported x86 package.
- Run the installer.
- Accept the license terms and select Install or Repair.
- Restart Windows.
- Launch PCSX2 again.
Current PCSX2 Windows builds require the latest x64 Visual C++ runtime, but that requirement should not be treated as proof of the exact runtime needed by the much older r5350 binary. Older PCSX2 releases may depend on an earlier runtime generation. Microsoft allows compatible Visual C++ redistributable generations to coexist, so do not remove older packages indiscriminately.
If installing the x86 runtime changes the error but does not solve it, reinstall PCSX2 as a complete package instead of adding more random DLL files.

Fix 4: Check whether the CPU supports AVX
The avx part of the filename matters. This plugin expects AVX-capable processor instructions. If the CPU is too old, PCSX2 may fail when it tries to initialize GSdx, even though the file is present.
First identify the processor:
- Press Windows + I.
- Select System and then About.
- Note the processor model.
- Search the processor manufacturer’s official specifications for AVX support.
You can also open Task Manager with Ctrl + Shift + Esc, select Performance, and inspect the CPU model shown there.
If the processor does not support AVX:
- Open the old PCSX2 Plugins folder.
- Select an SSE2 or other GSdx variant supported by that CPU.
- In PCSX2, open Config or Settings.
- Select Graphics or GSdx.
- Choose the compatible plugin and renderer.
- Apply the setting and restart PCSX2.
Do not rename an SSE plugin to pretend it is the AVX file. Use a plugin supplied by the same PCSX2 package. A current PCSX2 build is preferable when the old version cannot select a suitable instruction-set variant reliably.
Fix 5: Update the graphics driver and change the renderer
If GSdx loads but PCSX2 crashes, shows a blank window, or fails when a game starts, the problem may be the graphics driver or renderer rather than the missing file.
Update every GPU present in the computer, including integrated graphics in a laptop:
- Right-click the Start button.
- Select Device Manager.
- Expand Display adapters.
- Right-click the integrated or discrete GPU.
- Select Update driver.
- Choose Search automatically for drivers.
- Repeat for every adapter listed.
- Restart Windows.
For the most reliable driver, use the GPU manufacturer’s official support page and select the exact Windows version and graphics model. In PCSX2, then test another supported renderer:

- Open PCSX2.
- Go to Settings or Config.
- Open Graphics.
- Change the renderer to another available option.
- Apply the setting and test again.

If updating the driver makes no difference, restore PCSX2’s default graphics settings and test the installation without custom shaders, enhancements, or hardware hacks.

Fix 6: Install legacy DirectX components only when requested
Old PCSX2 builds may report missing legacy DirectX files even on Windows 10 or Windows 11. This does not mean that the modern DirectX version built into Windows is broken.
Install Microsoft’s DirectX End-User Runtime when the error specifically names files such as:
d3dx9_*.dll
d3dx10_*.dll
d3dx11_*.dll
xinput1_3.dll
XAudio 2.7
Use Microsoft’s official DirectX End-User Runtime download, then:
- Run the downloaded installer.
- Accept the license terms.
- Allow it to install the legacy side-by-side components.
- Restart Windows.
- Test PCSX2 again.
Do not install DirectX components merely because gsdx32-avx-r5350.dll is missing. DirectX is not automatically the cause of every GSdx loading error.

- Press Windows + R.
- Type
optionalfeatures. - Press Enter.
- Review Legacy Components and DirectPlay.
- Enable them only if PCSX2 or its documented setup specifically requires them.
- Select OK and restart if Windows requests it.
Fix 7: Repair Windows components
Windows repair commands are appropriate when other programs also show damaged-system-file errors. They will not recreate a missing PCSX2 plugin.
- Open Start.
- Type Command Prompt.
- Right-click Command Prompt.
- Select Run as administrator.
- Run this command and wait for it to finish:
DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth
- Then run:
sfc /scannow
- Restart Windows.
- Test PCSX2 again.
DISM repairs the Windows component store. SFC checks and repairs protected Windows files. If both commands report that no integrity violations were found, reinstalling PCSX2 is still the correct response to a missing application plugin.

What not to do
- Do not download
gsdx32-avx-r5350.dllfrom a random DLL download website. - Do not copy it into
System32,SysWOW64, or the Windows directory. - Do not mix a plugin from one PCSX2 version with another version.
- Do not use
regsvr32for this file. GSdx is an emulator plugin loaded by PCSX2, not a COM or ActiveX component that normally exposesDllRegisterServer. - Do not install x64 runtimes alone for a 32-bit PCSX2 program.
- Do not disable antivirus protection to run an isolated DLL.
Manual copying is appropriate only when restoring the exact file from the same verified PCSX2 installer or archive into that installation’s own Plugins directory.

When should I stop repairing the old installation?
If reinstalling the matching package, repairing dependencies, and checking AVX support do not work, preserve your saves and move to a current official PCSX2 installation. It is safer than continually replacing individual files from unrelated packages.
Is System Restore worth trying?
Only when the file disappeared after a recent system change and no clean PCSX2 installer or archive is available. It is not the primary fix for an obsolete application plugin.
