GTA 5 cheats work in Story Mode, not GTA Online. Enter a cheat word on PC, a platform-specific button sequence on PlayStation or Xbox, or—on supported newer versions—a phone number in the in-game phone. PS3 and Xbox 360 do not support phone cheats. Cheats let you save, but Rockstar says achievements are temporarily disabled while they are active.
How to enter GTA 5 cheats on each platform
| Platform | How to enter a cheat | Phone cheats |
|---|---|---|
| PC | Open the in-game command console and type the cheat word. The default console key is tilde (~) or the key immediately to its left; keyboard layouts vary, so the physical key may differ. | Supported on newer PC versions: open the in-game phone, go to the dial pad, enter the number, then call. |
| PS3 | Enter the PlayStation button sequence in order during gameplay. | Not supported. |
| PS4 | Enter the PlayStation button sequence in order during gameplay. | Supported on newer versions: open the phone, select the dial pad, enter the number, then call. |
| Xbox 360 | Enter the Xbox button sequence in order during gameplay. | Not supported. |
| Xbox One | Enter the Xbox button sequence in order during gameplay. | Supported on newer versions: open the phone, select the dial pad, enter the number, then call. |
Controller sequences are platform-specific: do not substitute a PlayStation sequence for an Xbox one, or assume a code word or phone number is a controller code. For exact button sequences, consult the platform-specific lists at PC Gamer or GameSpot. The phone method is not available on PS3 or Xbox 360; legacy console players need to use the controller inputs.

What cheats affect—and what they do not
Story Mode only
Cheats are for GTA 5 Story Mode and do not work in GTA Online. They do not grant an online advantage or change the rules of an Online session.
Saving, achievements, and resetting cheats
Rockstar Games Customer Support states: “Saving is allowed when cheat codes are enabled but achievements are temporarily disabled.” The support article also says reloading a save or rebooting resets cheats and restores the game to its prior state. See Rockstar’s explanation of cheat-code effects (last updated April 28, 2024).

- Experience the world of Grand Theft Auto V like never before with the power of the PlayStation 4.
- Explore the City of Los Santos, the countryside and even the ocean.
- Play through an epic single player experience using three very different characters.
- Join your friends in GTA Online and see what trouble you can cause.
- Play golf, tennis, see a film or call someone and just hang out.
Missions and restricted areas
Some cheats can be temporarily unavailable in particular gameplay areas. Starting a mission disables cheats that were active outside a mission. Re-entering a code usually turns that cheat off, but Rockstar notes this does not work in every case.
Money and vehicle unlocks
There is no GTA 5 money cheat. Some vehicle spawns also have prerequisites: the Duke O’Death and Kraken, for example, may require prior unlocks before their codes work. Check the restriction beside the relevant vehicle entry in a platform-specific list rather than treating every spawn code as immediately available.

- This game will no longer support Windows 7 or 8 operating systems starting January 30, 2024.
Choosing the right code list
- PC: Use the cheat-word list, and use phone numbers only if your version supports in-game phone cheats.
- PS3 or Xbox 360: Use the matching console button list; phone cheats are unavailable.
- PS4 or Xbox One: Use the correct console-family sequence, or the phone method where supported by your version.
- Before entering any code: Check the effect and any unlock or gameplay-area restriction. Cheats are not usable in GTA Online.
