Rockstar introduced the Enhanced PC version on March 4, 2025, as a free upgrade for players who already owned GTAV on PC, renamed the previous PC version Legacy, and said Legacy would continue to be supported. In its February 27, 2025 announcement, Rockstar said: “This new version — which arrives on March 4 and is available for free to all players who currently own GTAV on PC.”
Enhanced vs. Legacy: compare the listed PC requirements

How to get a legitimate PC copy
- Check the listing and your region. Open Rockstar’s PC product page and confirm the editions, price, and requirements. Rockstar advises buying in your country to reduce activation and compatibility problems.
- Buy through the Rockstar Store or a reputable authorized retailer. If considering a retailer’s code or boxed copy, verify the edition and region before paying; availability and compatibility can vary.
- Use the Rockstar account associated with the purchase. Rockstar says activation codes are single-use and tied to the Rockstar account that activates them. A code from the Rockstar Store or a boxed copy cannot be used to add GTAV to a Steam library.
- Install through the applicable storefront or launcher. Allow internet access for activation, online play, and periodic entitlement verification.
Account, internet, and regional restrictions
Rockstar requires a Rockstar Games account on PC for installation and online play. An internet connection is required for activation, online play, and periodic verification that you are entitled to the game; owning a copy does not mean every activity is permanently offline.

There is no verified basis here to say that an unauthorized download is complete, safe, or compatible with current PC editions. Cracked copies can also leave you without a valid Rockstar entitlement, updates, or the account-based services required for official play. Avoid sites offering cracks, key generators, or DRM bypasses; use the official listing or a reputable authorized seller instead.
