There is no universal GTA 5 jetpack key map: each script defines its own controls. Aerowing uses an F3 configuration menu, with F for takeoff or landing, H for wings, camera-relative WASD flight, Space/Ctrl for vertical movement, Q to brake, and double-tap movement shortcuts. VehicleJetpackV instead uses + to enable the jet, WASD to move, Space to ascend and Shift to descend. Other scripts generate an .ini file and require you to edit that file.
Identify the exact mod and whether you run GTA V Legacy or Enhanced before changing anything. Then use the mod’s own menu or configuration file, move conflicting bindings, and test every flight function in Story Mode.

Why GTA 5 jetpack controls differ by mod
A jetpack is not a native Grand Theft Auto V vehicle control set. A script adds the jetpack and decides which keyboard or controller inputs it listens for. Consequently, a key that activates one jetpack may do nothing—or trigger a completely different action—when another script is installed.

Outbyte PC Repair FREEClear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →Outbyte Driver Updater FREEScan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →The practical rule is to treat the mod listing and its generated configuration as the authoritative map. Do not assume that a control guide for one script applies to another. The three documented patterns covered here are:
#1 Best Overall
- STUNNING VISUALS — Enhanced levels of fidelity and performance with new graphics modes featuring up to 4K resolution, up to 60 frames per second, HDR options, ray tracing, improved texture quality, and more
- FASTER LOADING — Quicker access to the action as the world of Los Santos and Blaine County load in faster than ever before.
- ADAPTIVE TRIGGERS AND HAPTIC FEEDBACK — Feel every moment through the DualSense controller, from directional damage to weather effects, rough road surfaces to explosions, and more.
- TEMPEST 3D AUDIO — Hear the sounds of the world with pinpoint precision: the throttle of a stolen supercar, the rattle of neighbouring gunfire, the roar of a helicopter overhead, and more.
- Please note that although this game is Region Free or Region Unlocked and will work on all systems, this is the European version and may differ from the local version in age rating, labeling or instructions.
- Aerowing: an in-game F3 menu with rebindable controls.
- VehicleJetpackV: default keyboard controls plus keyboard and gamepad mappings in a configuration file.
- Another GTA-Modding listing: a self-generated
.inifile whose hotkeys can be changed after the first run.
The exact version and edition matter as much as the key map. Aerowing lists Legacy GTA V as its target and names Script Hook V, ScriptHookVDotNet v3 and OpenIV as requirements. The material available for VehicleJetpackV and the separate GTA-Modding script does not establish an Enhanced compatibility claim, so verify the individual download page before installing on Enhanced.
Aerowing jetpack controls
Aerowing documents a full control scheme and says the controls are rebindable in its F3 menu. The movement inputs are camera-relative: pressing forward sends the jetpack in the direction the camera is facing rather than permanently tying forward to the world axis.
| Action | Default input | What it does | Rebinding |
|---|---|---|---|
| Open configuration | F3 | Opens Aerowing’s in-game menu. | Use the menu to change the documented actions; the listing does not state a separate default for changing F3 itself. |
| Take off or land | F | Starts flight from the ground or lands the jetpack. | Rebindable in the F3 menu. |
| Deploy or retract wings | H | Extends or folds the jetpack wings. | Rebindable in the F3 menu. |
| Directional flight | W, A, S, D | Moves relative to the current camera direction. | Rebindable in the F3 menu. |
| Ascend | Space | Moves upward while flying. | Rebindable in the F3 menu. |
| Descend | Ctrl | Moves downward while flying. | Rebindable in the F3 menu. |
| Brake | Q | Slows or checks forward movement. | Rebindable in the F3 menu. |
| Fast flight | Double-tap W | Enters the faster flight mode. | Rebindable in the F3 menu; the listing describes the shortcut as a double tap. |
| Return to hover | Double-tap S | Returns from fast flight to a hover. | Rebindable in the F3 menu; the listing describes the shortcut as a double tap. |
| Weapons | Separate action keys | Controls the jetpack’s weapon functions. | Separate keys are documented, but their default key values are not stated in the listing; use the F3 menu. |
| Detach | Separate action key | Detaches the relevant jetpack component or mode. | Default key is not stated in the listing; use the F3 menu. |
| Guard or turret functions | Separate action keys | Activates the guard or turret controls supplied by the script. | Default keys are not stated in the listing; use the F3 menu. |
Because the menu exposes the actions rather than only the basic movement keys, it is the simplest Aerowing setup for players who already have a crowded trainer or mod configuration. Change one action, close the menu, and try it before changing the next; this makes a mistaken assignment easy to identify.
VehicleJetpackV controls
VehicleJetpackV uses a different default layout. Its listing specifies the plus key (+) to enable the jet, WASD for movement, Space to ascend and Shift to descend. The listing also says that keyboard and gamepad mappings can be changed in the configuration file.

| Move | W, A, S, D | Change the mapping in the configuration file. |
| Ascend | Space | Change the mapping in the configuration file. |
| Descend | Shift | Change the mapping in the configuration file. |
| Gamepad actions | Mappings are supported | Change the mappings in the configuration file; individual default button values are not stated. |
Do not copy Aerowing’s F, Ctrl or Q assumptions into VehicleJetpackV. The two scripts use different activation and vertical-movement defaults, and a configuration edit must follow the syntax and action names that VehicleJetpackV actually generates.
Scripts that generate an .ini file
A separate GTA-Modding listing describes a jetpack script that writes a self-generated .ini file after its first run. Its hotkeys can then be changed in that file. This is a different configuration workflow from Aerowing’s F3 menu and from any fixed assumptions based on the game’s normal controls.
The important timing detail is that the file may not exist immediately after copying the script. Launch the game with the script installed once, allow the script to initialize, and then exit normally. Look in the script’s installation folder for the newly created configuration file. If no file appears, confirm that the script loaded and that you are checking the location specified by its listing or package.

- This game will no longer support Windows 7 or 8 operating systems starting January 30, 2024.
- Identify the script. Read the installed file names and the download listing. Record whether it is Aerowing, VehicleJetpackV or another jetpack script. Do not edit a configuration file until you know which script owns it.
- Confirm the game edition. Check whether the installation is GTA V Legacy or GTA V Enhanced. A script built for one edition may not load correctly in the other, even when the key names look identical.
- Check the stated dependencies. For Aerowing, the listing names Legacy GTA V, Script Hook V, ScriptHookVDotNet v3 and OpenIV. Script Hook must match the installed game build. Install or update the dependency only from a source that explicitly supports your edition and build.
- Choose the correct configuration path. For Aerowing, launch Story Mode, press
F3, enable the jetpack and use the menu’s rebind controls. For a file-based script, launch once to generate its.ini, exit the game and then edit the file. VehicleJetpackV’s listing specifically places keyboard and gamepad mappings in its configuration file. - Back up before editing. Copy the original
.inito a safe location and keep the untouched copy under a different name. A backup lets you restore a working layout if a typo prevents the script from loading. - Change one action at a time. Start with activation, then ascent and descent, then steering, braking and secondary functions. Save the file after each small group of changes, or apply one menu change and test it before proceeding.
- Use the mod’s existing key notation. Preserve the action names, capitalization and value format already present in the file. Do not replace a named value with a key name copied from a different script’s configuration.
- Move the conflict, not both controls. If another script or trainer already uses the desired key, assign the jetpack a free key. If the conflict is with the menu itself, move the mod menu key first, then change flight actions.
- Restart the game. Many script settings are read only when the script initializes. Close GTA V fully and relaunch in Story Mode after saving the menu or file changes.
- Test in a safe area. Verify activation, takeoff, ascent, descent, steering, braking, landing and any weapon, detach, guard or turret actions separately. Record which action fails instead of changing several bindings at once.
Resolving key conflicts
The jetpack will not activate
First check that the script loaded and that you are in the edition it supports. In Aerowing, press F3 and confirm that the jetpack is enabled; in VehicleJetpackV, test the documented + activation or the value you placed in its configuration file. If the menu opens but activation does not, assign activation a key that no trainer, vehicle script or overlay uses.
A key opens another mod or trainer
This is a binding collision, not necessarily a flight failure. Move the jetpack’s menu key or activation key to an unused input, restart the game and test again. Keep a written map of the final assignments when several scripts are installed; it prevents a later mod update from making the same key appear to stop working.
Movement works but vertical flight does not
Check the script-specific vertical controls. Aerowing uses Space to ascend and Ctrl to descend by default. VehicleJetpackV uses Space and Shift. A file-based script may use different values. Confirm that the edited entries are the ascent and descent actions rather than the general movement entries, then restart the game.

The GTA-Modding listing says its file is generated after first run. Launch with the script installed, allow the game to reach Story Mode, exit and search again in the script’s expected folder. If it still is not created, the script may not have loaded because of an edition, build or dependency mismatch; restore the backup and resolve loading before editing keys.

Controls reset after an update
Keep your backup outside the mod folder and compare the new configuration with it after updating. A replacement file can restore defaults, while an update can also change action names. Reapply only the entries that the new version still documents instead of copying an entire old file over a new one.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Legacy and Enhanced compatibility
Edition compatibility is a prerequisite, not a control setting. Aerowing’s stated requirements identify Legacy GTA V, Script Hook V, ScriptHookVDotNet v3 and OpenIV. That information supports a Legacy installation; it does not establish that the same package works on Enhanced.
For every jetpack script, check three things before installation:
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
- The download explicitly names Legacy or Enhanced.
- Its Script Hook requirement supports the installed game build.
- The script’s runtime dependency, such as ScriptHookVDotNet, is available for that edition and version.
If a Legacy script is copied into Enhanced without matching support, a perfect key map will not fix a script that never loads. Conversely, changing a configuration file cannot convert a script compiled for one edition into an Enhanced-compatible script.

Installation and first-flight checklist
- Back up the GTA V installation and your existing script files.
- Install only the dependencies named by the jetpack listing. Aerowing’s listed dependencies are Script Hook V, ScriptHookVDotNet v3 and OpenIV for Legacy GTA V.
- Place the jetpack files exactly where the listing instructs; do not rename configuration files or DLLs to match another mod.
- Start Story Mode and wait for scripts to finish loading.
- For Aerowing, press
F3, enable the jetpack and review the displayed assignments. - For a file-based script, quit after the first successful load, back up the generated
.iniand edit the required values. - Return to Story Mode and test each function on open, level ground.
Keep modded scripts out of GTA Online. These controls and dependencies are intended for the single-player modding environment described by the listings.

Choose Aerowing when an in-game rebinding menu and a large set of documented actions are more important than editing files. Choose VehicleJetpackV when configuration-file control and gamepad mappings are the priority. Choose a generated-.ini script only after confirming that its first-run file creation and edition support match your installation.
A reliable test sequence after rebinding
Testing each behavior independently prevents a wrong assignment from looking like a physics or loading problem.
- Stand still and trigger the activation action.
- Use the takeoff action where the script provides one, or the script’s activation behavior where it does not.
- Hold the ascent key briefly, release it, and confirm that vertical movement stops as expected.
- Repeat with the descent key and make sure it is not being intercepted by a crouch or trainer action.
- Press each steering direction while watching the camera so camera-relative movement is distinguished from world-relative movement.
- Test Aerowing’s brake, fast-flight and hover-return shortcuts separately; double-tap timing matters for the two flight-mode actions.
- Land, reactivate and repeat once. A key that works only on the first activation usually indicates a conflict or an unsaved configuration.
- If your script includes weapons, detaching or guard/turret functions, test them last so an unsafe secondary action cannot interrupt the basic flight check.
When a test fails, restore the backup configuration, change only the failing action and restart. This produces a clear cause-and-effect trail instead of creating several simultaneous unknowns.
Quick Recap
Key points to keep
- Jetpack controls belong to the script, not to GTA V as a universal feature.
- Aerowing’s documented defaults are F for takeoff or landing, H for wings, WASD for camera-relative flight, Space/Ctrl for vertical movement, Q for braking, double-tap W for fast flight and double-tap S to return to hover; its F3 menu can rebind the controls.
- VehicleJetpackV defaults to +, WASD, Space and Shift, and stores keyboard and gamepad mappings in its configuration file.
- Some scripts create their
.inionly after the first successful run. - Match Script Hook, the jetpack script and the GTA V edition/build before troubleshooting individual keys.
