What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
For PC Story Mode, a vehicle trainer is the most flexible way to test and spawn cars; built-in cheats are faster but limited to preset effects; Director Mode is the right tool for filming controlled scenes. None of these methods is an acceptable way to modify GTA Online. Keep every trainer and ASI file out of Online, and check compatibility after each PC title update.
Which method should you use?
Your choice depends on whether you want breadth, speed or cinematic control. A trainer gives you a searchable or menu-driven vehicle list and is suited to sandbox testing. A cheat code needs no installation and is ideal for a quick, one-off effect, but it can only call the vehicles and effects Rockstar exposed through its preset codes. Director Mode is built around actors, cameras and world conditions, so it is better for repeatable machinima shots than for browsing every vehicle model.

| Axis | Vehicle trainer | Built-in cheat codes | Director Mode |
|---|---|---|---|
| Platform | PC with Script Hook V and ASI support | PC and consoles with supported cheat input | PC and later console versions |
| Vehicle breadth | Broad model selection; PC Trainer V (Official) advertises all available models, including DLC models | Small set of preset vehicle-spawn and effect codes | Scene-oriented; not a full trainer replacement |
| Setup | Install compatible files in the PC game directory | No mod installation; enter a code or use supported phone input | Use the game’s Rockstar Editor/Director Mode flow |
| Best use | Testing vehicles, rapid spawning and sandbox experiments | Fast, temporary Story Mode effects | Machinima, actor staging, camera and environment control |
| Online use | Not supported; Script Hook V does not work in GTA Online | Not an Online progression method | Do not treat it as an Online mod method |
What a GTA 5 vehicle trainer actually is
A trainer is a third-party PC utility that adds a menu or commands to Story Mode. Most trainers rely on Script Hook V, a library that exposes GTA V’s native script functions to custom .asi plugins. Script Hook V’s package includes Native Trainer, whose vehicle section can spawn cars from an in-game menu.
PC Trainer V (Official) is another PC option that advertises spawning all available vehicle models, including downloadable-content models. That claim describes its model database, not a guarantee that every future title update will work immediately. Rockstar updates can change the game’s executable, so a previously working Script Hook V build or trainer may need an update before it loads.

What trainers are good at
- Choosing a specific model instead of cycling through a short cheat-code list.
- Spawning several vehicles while testing handling, deformation or locations.
- Repeating the same setup while recording footage or experimenting with game systems.
- Accessing DLC vehicle entries that are not represented by the built-in spawn cheats, when the trainer has been updated for that content.
What trainers do not do
- They do not turn GTA Online into a safe modding environment.
- They do not guarantee compatibility after a Rockstar title update.
- They are not console applications; the Script Hook V/ASI method is a PC workflow.
- They do not automatically make a spawned vehicle persistent, insured or transferable to Online.
Installing and using a trainer in PC Story Mode
Use a clean, offline Story Mode installation and keep a backup of your saves before changing game files. The exact files and supported game versions vary by trainer, so follow the current readme that accompanies the Script Hook V build and the trainer you selected.
- Confirm the platform. This procedure is for the PC edition of GTA V. Console editions cannot load Script Hook V or ASI plugins.
- Check the game build. Compare your installed GTA V title-update version with the Script Hook V version listed by its documentation. If the versions do not match, wait for a compatible build rather than forcing the files to load.
- Install the loader and plugin. Place the Script Hook V components and the trainer’s ASI plugin in the GTA V game directory specified by their documentation. Do not scatter copies through unrelated folders; duplicate loaders make troubleshooting harder.
- Start Story Mode first. Launch the game without entering GTA Online. Open the trainer’s assigned key or menu command after the world has loaded, then test a vehicle spawn in a quiet location.
- Use the vehicle menu. Browse by the trainer’s categories or model names, select a vehicle and choose its spawn command. Some trainers expose additional options such as spawning near the player or replacing the current vehicle; the labels differ by trainer.
- Shut the trainer down before Online. Exit the game, remove or disable the ASI loader and trainer files, and then launch an unmodified installation before selecting GTA Online.
Common trainer failures
- The game crashes on startup: the Script Hook V build may not match the current title update, or two loaders may conflict. Remove the trainer files, verify that vanilla Story Mode starts, then install only versions declared compatible.
- The menu never appears: check that the plugin is in the correct game directory, that the loader is present, and that another key-binding utility is not intercepting the trainer’s hotkey.
- A model is missing or spawns incorrectly: the trainer’s vehicle list may predate a DLC or title update. Look for a trainer release that explicitly supports your build; do not assume a missing entry is a save-file problem.
- Online refuses to start after modding: restore an unmodified game directory and remove every trainer/ASI component before trying again. Script Hook V documentation states that it does not work in GTA Online.
How built-in vehicle cheat codes compare
Cheat codes are part of the game and require no mod installation. On PC, Rockstar says the cheat box opens with the tilde key (~) and accepts vehicle-spawn and other cheats. On supported consoles, use the platform’s published button sequence or the in-game phone method where available.
The trade-off is a fixed catalogue. A code can call only the vehicle or effect attached to that code; it cannot search the complete vehicle model set. Rockstar Support also notes that a cheat can be denied when it is unavailable in the current situation. Starting a mission with an off-mission cheat enabled disables those cheats, so enter and test them in free-roam Story Mode rather than during a mission objective.

A reliable cheat-code routine
- Load a Story Mode save and remain in free roam.
- On PC, press the tilde key to open the cheat box, then enter the exact code. On console, use the supported input method for the code you intend to use.
- Wait for the confirmation message or the expected effect before entering another code.
- If the game reports that the cheat is unavailable, leave the mission or restricted activity and try again in open free roam.
- Save only after considering the consequences: cheats can disable achievements or trophies for the current session, and some effects persist only until the game is reloaded.
Rockstar’s support guidance is the authority for officially documented codes: “Unless the code was given in-game, or in the manual then the code is unofficial and cannot be supported.” Treat websites that promise an unlimited or hidden vehicle list cautiously; a code that is not documented by Rockstar may simply be incorrect or platform-specific.
Using Director Mode to spawn and film cars
Director Mode is a cinematic control layer connected to Rockstar Editor. It lets you select playable actors and manipulate scene conditions, then capture footage with controlled camera work and environmental settings. It is available on PC and on later console versions, but the available controls can differ by platform and game edition.
Why it is different from a trainer
Director Mode organizes a scene rather than exposing a complete vehicle database. Its strengths are repeatability and presentation: you can stage an actor, choose a location, set time or weather conditions where the mode permits it, and repeat a shot without rebuilding every element manually. A trainer is better when the central question is “Which model can I spawn right now?”

Basic filming workflow
- Enter Story Mode and open the Rockstar Editor/Director Mode entry provided by your edition of GTA V.
- Choose an actor appropriate to the scene and select a location that gives the vehicle enough room to appear safely.
- Set the available time, weather and wanted-level or pedestrian conditions for the shot. Director Mode exposes only the controls supported by that version.
- Choose or place the vehicle using Director Mode’s scene options. If the model you need is not offered, switch to a Story Mode trainer for testing rather than assuming Director Mode is a general-purpose mod menu.
- Record the take, then use Rockstar Editor to adjust camera angles, timing and transitions.
- Repeat the scene with the same conditions when you need matching shots; document the settings so a later take can be recreated.
Director Mode should not be used as a workaround for Online customization. It is a Story Mode/Editor feature, not an authorization to load mods into GTA Online.

Keep every method in offline Story Mode. Script Hook V explicitly does not function in GTA Online, and Rockstar has warned against modifications that compromise Online’s fairness and economy. Even if a trainer appears harmless, leaving its files active while launching Online can cause errors and expose the account to enforcement risk.
- Install and test trainers only while disconnected from Online activities.
- Close GTA V before removing or disabling mod files; do not attempt to swap files while the game is running.
- Maintain a separate, unmodified game directory or a documented enable/disable routine if you regularly alternate between Story Mode experiments and Online.
- Never use a trainer to create money, vehicles or progression for an Online character.
What you need to buy and which edition matters
All three approaches operate inside Grand Theft Auto V, so the relevant purchase is the base game edition that includes Story Mode. Rockstar sells GTA V for PC and current consoles with Story Mode and GTA Online. Before buying a physical listing, including a PS5 copy, verify the exact regional edition, included modes and current price; Amazon availability and pricing change by country and date.

PC buyers should also confirm that their installation can run the required Script Hook V build and that they have enough storage for the game and backups. Console owners can use the built-in cheat system and, on supported later versions, Director Mode, but cannot install PC ASI trainers.
Decision guide
Choose a trainer when…
You are on PC, remain in Story Mode, need a wide or DLC-inclusive vehicle list, and are willing to manage version compatibility and file cleanup.
Choose cheat codes when…
You want an immediate effect with no installation, can accept a small preset list, and are playing free-roam Story Mode rather than an active mission.
Choose Director Mode when…
Your priority is filming: repeatable actors, camera control and environmental staging matter more than access to every vehicle model.
Keeping the setup dependable
After every Rockstar PC title update, launch the unmodified game once and confirm whether the installed Script Hook V build is still supported. If it is not, disable the trainer until a compatible release is available. Keep a dated backup of your save files, record which plugins you installed, and change one component at a time when diagnosing crashes. This discipline preserves a clean path back to Story Mode and protects the separation between experimentation and GTA Online.
