Michael De Santa returned in GTA Online with A Safehouse in the Hills, the update Rockstar announced for December 10, 2025. Coverage describes his updated appearance as older, but it does not establish a new canonical age or an exact in-game time jump. His return is to GTA Online—not confirmation that he appears in GTA VI.
Where Michael returns
Michael’s comeback is part of GTA Online, the multiplayer game associated with Grand Theft Auto V. The A Safehouse in the Hills update centered on purchasable mansions in Los Santos’ hills and also featured a new adventure. It is not a newly announced GTA V single-player expansion. Insider Gaming quoted Rockstar’s December 5, 2025 announcement: “Prime luxury real estate for those who’ve reached the highest rungs of the criminal ladder arrives on Dec 10 in GTA Online: A Safehouse in the Hills.”

Why the headline says “after 12 years”
Grand Theft Auto V first released on September 17, 2013, and Rockstar announced the update for December 10, 2025—roughly 12 years and three months later. “After 12 years” is a rounded description of the real-world gap, not a confirmed measure of time elapsed in the game’s story. GameSpot lists the original release date and the game’s platforms, including PS5.
What “he has aged” means
Reports describe Michael as looking older in the update. That supports a visual observation about his updated character model; it does not establish his canonical age, a precise number of years passing in the fictional timeline, or a measured change to the model. Avoid treating his appearance as proof of a specific story chronology.

Does Michael return in GTA VI?
No confirmed GTA VI appearance follows from his GTA Online return. A GTA BOOM fact-check updated August 26, 2026 says Ned Luke did not confirm Michael’s return: his “Wouldn’t that be nice?” reply was noncommittal, and Rockstar had not officially announced a GTA V character in GTA VI’s main story in that report. Treat any claim that Michael is in GTA VI as unconfirmed unless Rockstar announces it.

After the update announcement, actor Ned Luke posted “Daddy’s back bitches,” as quoted by Insider Gaming. It was a reaction to Michael’s GTA Online comeback, not evidence about the plot of GTA VI.
