You should not assume that nudity, sex scenes, violence, gore, profanity, drugs, alcohol, or mature humor can be switched off. The game is officially rated M for Mature 17+, and its listed descriptors confirm that those subjects appear in the rated product.
That may change when the game launches, but a filter cannot be treated as a feature until Rockstar documents it or the retail game exposes a working option. For a younger player or anyone avoiding specific material, the reliable decision today is to treat GTA VI as an unfiltered mature game and use console-level access and spending controls rather than relying on an unconfirmed in-game setting.

What content settings are confirmed for GTA 6?
None of the first-party GTA VI materials currently available documents an individual content toggle. The official product information identifies the game, platforms, release date, editions and rating, but does not provide a menu map or list of filters for sensitive content.

“Not documented” is more precise than “cannot be disabled.” It means no official source currently confirms that the option exists, how broad it would be, or whether it would affect story scenes, gameplay, ambient dialogue, cinematics or online material.

What the ESRB rating tells you
The ESRB listing states: “Grand Theft Auto VI is rated M for Mature 17+ by the ESRB with Blood and Gore, Intense Violence, Mature Humor, Nudity, Strong Language, Strong Sexual Content, and Use of Drugs and Alcohol. Also includes In-Game Purchases.”
This is a disclosure of content categories in the rated release, not a list of settings. An ESRB descriptor does not say that a category appears constantly, that every mode contains it, or that a player can remove it. It also does not indicate whether a hypothetical filter would censor dialogue, replace visuals, skip a scene, or merely reduce ambient events.
The rating is therefore useful for deciding whether the game is appropriate, but it cannot answer “Can I turn off nudity?” or “Is there a profanity filter?” Those questions require product-specific settings documentation, which has not been published.
Platforms, release date and editions relevant to the decision
Rockstar lists GTA VI for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. Its official page gives a release date of November 19, 2026, so the information about content controls is pre-release as of October 18, 2026.
The PlayStation product listing shows a Standard Edition at $79.99 and an Ultimate Edition at $99.99, with optional in-game purchases, offline play, one player and PS5/PS5 Pro Enhanced support. Store prices and terms can change, and those commercial details do not imply any difference in content filtering between editions. Check the listing for your region and whether you are buying a physical or digital copy before purchase.

What is known from older Rockstar settings information
Rockstar’s published support instructions for Grand Theft Auto V say that settings can be changed from the Pause Menu in Story Mode or Online, under the Settings tab, with options such as controls, audio, camera and display.
That is a GTAV precedent only. It does not establish that GTA VI has the same menu, the same labels or any content filter. Controls, volume, camera behavior and display preferences are also different from removing sexual content, gore or profanity. Do not treat a GTAV settings article as a GTA VI content-filter guide.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsWhat you cannot safely assume you can disable
Until Rockstar publishes a GTA VI settings guide or players can verify the released menus, treat each of these as unconfirmed:
- nudity or partial nudity;
- sex scenes or other strong sexual content;
- profanity and other strong language;
- blood, gore or dismemberment;
- violent missions, executions or other intense violence;
- drug and alcohol references or use;
- sexualized dialogue and mature jokes;
- content in cinematics, scripted missions or ambient open-world encounters;
- material created or encountered in any online or user-generated component.
The ESRB descriptors establish that these subjects are present in the rated product. They do not establish a separate “clean” mode, a profanity filter, a scene-skip function or a parent PIN inside GTA VI.
Can parents make GTA 6 safe for a younger player?
There is no evidence that an in-game switch can make GTA VI suitable for children. Because the product is rated M for Mature 17+, parents should make the access decision before purchase rather than expecting the game to transform into a younger-player edition.

Console family and safety tools can still help manage access to the game, online features and purchases. The exact names and controls vary by console software, account type and region, so use the current settings on the relevant PlayStation or Xbox account. Those controls govern access around the game; they are not proof that GTA VI itself removes mature scenes or language.
A practical pre-purchase check
- Read the current ESRB rating and all listed descriptors for the edition and region you intend to buy.
- Decide whether the player can access an M-rated game at all. If the answer is no, do not rely on a promised or rumored filter.
- Set the console account’s age, game-access and purchasing restrictions before installing the game.
- Use a separate adult account for ownership and keep payment approval enabled if other household members use the console.
How to check for settings after launch
If Rockstar adds controls at release or in a later update, verify them in the installed game rather than relying on screenshots or forum claims. Menu wording can differ by platform and may change in patches.
- Open the game’s main menu or pause menu and look for Settings, Accessibility, Audio, Display and any section labelled Content, Safety or Parental.
- Read the full description beside each option. A setting that reduces graphic effects is not necessarily a filter for nudity, sexual scenes or language.
- Check whether the control applies to story missions, cutscenes, random encounters, radio and subtitles, or only to a narrow visual effect.
- Look for an account PIN or profile lock. Without one, another player may be able to restore the default setting.
- Test the setting with a new save or an early, clearly identified scene before allowing a younger or sensitive player to continue.
- Recheck after major updates, because patches can add, rename or reset options.
If no explicit control appears, assume the mature material remains active. Do not infer a filter from a volume slider, subtitle switch, reduced screen-shake option, color setting or general accessibility control.

If Rockstar documents a filter later, the important question will not be simply whether a toggle exists. Check its scope and limitations.
| Question to ask | Why it matters |
|---|---|
| Which categories are covered? | A filter might address profanity while leaving nudity, sex, gore or drug use unchanged. |
| Does it affect scripted scenes? | Some controls can change ambient events but leave story missions and cinematics intact. |
| Does it affect audio, visuals or both? | Muting dialogue does not remove sexual imagery; hiding blood does not remove violent actions. |
| Does it cover radio, subtitles and background dialogue? | Language can appear outside mission conversations. |
| Is online or user-created content included? | A story-mode setting may not govern material delivered by other players. |
| Can another profile change it? | A PIN or account-level lock determines whether the setting is dependable in a shared household. |
| What happens to blocked scenes? | The game might skip, replace, blur or simply warn about them; those outcomes are not equivalent. |
Common mistakes when researching GTA 6 filters
Confusing the rating with a control list
The ESRB rating tells you why the game is classified M. It does not enumerate options in the settings menu. Treating each descriptor as a toggle creates a feature the rating never promised.
Using GTAV instructions as if they describe GTA VI
GTAV’s Pause Menu settings demonstrate that Rockstar provides ordinary controls for some games. They do not confirm a content-filter menu, identical navigation or identical behavior in GTA VI.
Trusting an edition label to indicate safer content
The listed Standard and Ultimate editions do not come with a documented mature-content difference. Edition names, bonuses and prices are not evidence of an edited version.
Assuming “offline” means “safe”
The PlayStation listing identifies offline play, but offline availability says nothing about nudity, sex, violence, language or gore in the single-player campaign.
Bottom line for buyers
GTA VI is an M-rated game whose official descriptors include blood and gore, intense violence, mature humor, nudity, strong language, strong sexual content and drug and alcohol use. As of October 18, 2026, no first-party GTA VI source reviewed here documents individual switches for those categories. Plan on the content being present unless Rockstar explicitly publishes a filter and explains its coverage. Console-level age, access and purchase controls can help manage who obtains or plays the game, but they should not be presented as an in-game mature-content filter.
