The gag was about an apparent split-second visual detail—not evidence of a confirmed game defect or a real boycott.
What did fans spot in the GTA 6 trailer?
In a May 21, 2025 report, HotHardware’s Alan Velasco described a Reddit post featuring three screenshots of Jason firing from a car in Grand Theft Auto VI Trailer 2. The images appeared to show light coming from the gun before the shot. The sequence has not been independently checked here against Rockstar’s official trailer, so the timing and its cause are not established.

The report also notes that fans had closely examined the first GTA VI trailer, and that Trailer 2 attracted similar scrutiny. In this case, attention turned to a tiny apparent timing detail in the action.
Why did commenters joke about canceling preorders?
The Reddit discussion used mock outrage to make fun of the apparent light-before-shot sequence. One anonymous commenter quoted by Velasco wrote, “literally unplayable definitely won’t be buying this game is so unrealistic ugh.” The deliberately over-the-top complaint was the joke: treating a small apparent visual quirk as a reason to reject a major game.
#1 Best Overall
HotHardware characterized the responses as fans having fun. The report does not establish actual preorder cancellations, a boycott, or how widely the joke was shared among GTA fans.
Does the apparent light timing prove GTA 6 has a visual bug?
No. The report describes what the screenshots appeared to show, but does not determine whether the sequence is an error, an effect of how the frames were captured, or something else. Without an independent examination of the trailer, it is safest to treat it as an apparent anomaly that prompted a joke—not a verified defect.

What was the release-date context?
Velasco’s May 21, 2025 article mentioned a delay to mid-2026 as background. That was the schedule context reported at the time, not a current release-date verification. The article’s forward-looking suggestion that the game would face close scrutiny after release was commentary, not evidence of any later outcome.
