Former Rockstar audio engineer Rob Carr expects the studio to keep evolving ideas between games, but he has not confirmed that any particular Red Dead Redemption 2 feature will appear in Grand Theft Auto VI. A report by HotHardware also attributes to Carr an expectation of a substantial RAGE engine overhaul; it does not establish that Rockstar rebuilt the engine from scratch. Rockstar currently lists GTA VI for November 19, 2026, on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S.

What did the former Rockstar developer say about GTA 6?

HotHardware’s April 4, 2026, report identifies Rob Carr as a former Rockstar Games audio engineer who left during Red Dead Redemption 2’s development. The report says Carr is interested in which mechanics from GTA V and RDR2 might carry forward into GTA VI—an expectation about Rockstar’s design process, not confirmation of the upcoming game’s features.

HotHardware attributes this sentence to Carr: “I’m looking forward to it […] because I worked so heavily on GTA V. It’s mostly mechanics, I think, that I’m most interested in.” The ellipsis is part of the quotation as published by HotHardware.

Has Rockstar confirmed RDR2 features in GTA 6?

No. The report does not identify any specific RDR2 mechanic as a confirmed part of GTA VI, and Rockstar has not confirmed feature carryover in the cited official material. Carr’s interest is in seeing which mechanics make the transition; it should not be read as a feature announcement.

HotHardware points to earlier cross-game influences as context: it says the first Red Dead Redemption’s Dead Eye multi-targeting inspired slow-motion aiming in GTA V, and that a GTA IV downloadable-content mission inspired GTA V’s three-perspective mission structure. These are historical examples reported by HotHardware, not evidence that the same or similar mechanics will be in GTA VI.

Does GTA 6 have a full RAGE engine rebuild?

That has not been confirmed. HotHardware reports Carr’s expectation that the extent of the RAGE overhaul needed to support modern graphics technology and engine features contributed to the game’s delay. The report distinguishes a substantial overhaul from a complete rebuild and says the latter remains uncertain. It also raises the possibility that features backported from GTA V could mean the engine was not rebuilt entirely.

Possibility What it would mean What is established
Substantial overhaul of RAGE Significant changes to support newer graphics technology and engine features. HotHardware attributes this expectation to Carr; the actual scope has not been confirmed.
Complete engine rebuild A more extensive replacement or reconstruction than an overhaul of the existing engine. HotHardware says a complete rebuild is uncertain. The sources do not establish that it happened.

The available reporting does not specify RAGE’s architecture, quantify the work, or confirm which technical changes Rockstar made. “Full engine revamp” is therefore best understood as an attributed expectation, not a verified description of the game’s production.
