Rockstar’s official material is the only authority for confirmed GTA 6 map facts. Community maps are useful, often impressive reconstructions of roads, landmarks and regional relationships, but they remain provisional until Rockstar publishes a complete navigable map or players can verify the layout in the finished game.
As of October 2026, Rockstar has not released a full cartographic map of Leonida. You can trust the setting, the officially named destinations and places visibly shown in official footage. You cannot yet treat a fan-drawn border, exact coordinate, road connection, scale estimate or leak-only location as settled fact.

The short answer: official facts win, community layouts fill the gaps
GTA VI takes place in the fictional state of Leonida, with Vice City as its principal city. Rockstar’s May 6, 2025 Trailer 2 release describes a criminal conspiracy “stretching across the state of Leonida” and identifies Vice City, USA, as the story’s central setting. That first-party wording establishes the state and city; it does not publish a finished atlas of the game world.

Community cartographers work from trailer frames, screenshots, signs, landmarks, sight lines and apparent road relationships. Their maps can be the best current way to visualize how the confirmed places might fit together. They are not official maps, however, and two careful projects can disagree while using the same footage. Perspective, camera height, missing roads and unseen terrain leave room for several plausible arrangements.
#1 Best Overall
The practical verdict is claim-specific:
- For the setting, destination names, characters and scenes Rockstar has shown, use Rockstar’s material.
- For a provisional arrangement of regions, roads and landmarks, use a community map that clearly labels its evidence and confidence.
- For exact coordinates, scale, final borders and the complete road network, there is no authoritative answer yet.
- For locations that appear only in leaked material, treat the claim as unverified rather than as a map fact.
Has Rockstar released the complete GTA 6 map?
No. Rockstar has released trailers and other official media, but not a complete navigable map with a coordinate grid, scale bar, final regional borders or every road and path. The absence matters because a screenshot can prove that a building, beach, road or landscape exists without proving where it sits in relation to the rest of Leonida.
Rockstar’s official release copy confirms that Trailer 2 footage was captured on PlayStation 5. That tells you the scenes represent the PlayStation 5 version shown in the trailer; it does not turn the camera path into a map or disclose the production build’s full geography.
Until an official map or in-game verification is available, claims such as “this is the northern edge,” “the airport is exactly this many miles from Vice City” or “the world is a specific percentage larger than a previous game” go beyond what Rockstar has published. A map image can look precise while its underlying measurements remain guesses.

Rockstar’s material establishes a fictional state, a principal city and six named destinations. The names are official even when their boundaries, coordinates and connecting routes are not.
| Official name | What the name establishes | What remains unconfirmed |
|---|---|---|
| Vice City | Rockstar’s principal city and the setting identified in the Trailer 2 release. | Its final municipal boundary, total area, every district, and the exact position of surrounding roads and waterways. |
| Leonida Keys | An officially named destination within the Leonida setting. | The precise island count, shoreline, road network, scale and boundaries. |
| Port Gellhorn | An officially named destination. | Its exact coordinates, extent, transport links and final relationship to other regions. |
| Grassrivers | An officially named destination. | The definitive boundary, waterways, roads and map position. |
| Ambrosia | An officially named destination. | Its size, borders, landmarks and confirmed connections to neighboring areas. |
| Mount Kalaga National Park | An officially named national-park destination. | The park’s surveyed limits, trail network, elevation profile and exact location on the final world map. |
An official name is stronger evidence than a fan label, but it is not a complete survey. A community project can draw an estimated outline around one of these destinations while still acknowledging that Rockstar has not published the outline itself.
What counts as an official map fact?
Setting and story geography
The state of Leonida and Vice City are confirmed by Rockstar’s release copy. The same copy says Jason and Lucia’s story extends across Leonida, so the game is not limited to a single urban district. That statement supports a statewide setting, not a precise measurement of the playable area.

Places visible in official footage
If a location or feature is clearly visible in a Rockstar trailer, screenshot or other first-party publication, the safest statement is that Rockstar has shown it. You can describe what the frame establishes—a skyline, road, sign, building, vehicle route or landscape—without assigning an exact coordinate that the frame does not provide.

The six destination names listed above belong in an official layer of a map. Their inclusion does not validate every unofficial subdivision, border or nearby landmark that a fan map places around them.
How community maps are constructed
Community mapping projects add spatial interpretation that Rockstar has not released. The strongest projects do not present every line as equally certain; they separate direct evidence from inference.
Frame and screenshot comparison
Researchers compare multiple views for repeated landmarks, road curves, building silhouettes, signs, bridges, coastlines and sight lines. A tower seen from two angles can help establish a relative relationship. It still may not reveal the distance between the camera and the tower, especially when lenses compress depth.
Signs and named locations
A readable sign can support a place name or regional assignment. The sign does not automatically prove that the surrounding boundary drawn on a fan map is official. Mapmakers should distinguish the text Rockstar showed from the polygon they inferred around it.
Road and landmark relationships
Road junctions, bridges and distinctive structures can be connected across scenes. This produces a useful provisional network, but an edited trailer may omit intervening roads or present scenes out of geographic order. A plausible connection is not the same as a confirmed route.

Confidence layers
Leonida Explorer records separate confidence for a destination’s name, its regional assignment and its coordinate. Its workflow distinguishes official sources, observations in official media, original reporting, community reconstruction and leak reports. The Leonida Survey uses three reader-facing labels: “Named by Rockstar,” “Visible in official media” and “Estimated from visual clues.” These systems are valuable because they show exactly which part of a map is known and which part is interpretation.
Which source is most accurate for each kind of claim?
| Claim you want to verify | Most accurate source | Reason |
|---|---|---|
| Leonida is the state; Vice City is the principal city | Rockstar’s official material | It is first-party confirmation. |
| A named destination appears in Rockstar’s setting | Rockstar’s official material | The name comes directly from the publisher. |
| A building, vehicle route or landscape is shown in a trailer | The relevant Rockstar frame or release | The footage proves the feature is depicted, though not necessarily its coordinate. |
| Provisional placement of roads, landmarks and regions | An evidence-labeled community map | Community cartographers add spatial interpretation missing from the official release. |
| Exact coordinates, scale and final boundaries | No settled source yet | Rockstar has not published the reference data needed to verify them. |
| A location seen only in a leak | No reliable authority | Authenticity and build date may be unknown. |
This table is why asking which single map is “the most accurate” can be misleading. Accuracy depends on what you are checking. A fan map may be excellent at showing a likely relationship between two landmarks while still being unable to prove the coordinates of either one.
How to read a community map without mistaking estimates for facts
Check the legend before the coastline
Look for separate symbols or colors for official names, observations from official media, estimates and leak-derived claims. If a map uses one solid color for all of those categories, its visual confidence is hiding important differences.
Read the evidence note for each point
A trustworthy entry should explain whether the name came from Rockstar, whether the feature is visible in a published frame, and whether the position was estimated. “Coordinate” should not be treated as synonymous with “confirmed coordinate.”
Separate a name from a boundary
When Rockstar names Port Gellhorn or Mount Kalaga National Park, that confirms the name. A fan-drawn border around the destination is a reconstruction unless Rockstar has published that border. Keep those two facts separate when citing or sharing the map.
Look for dated revisions
Trailers and screenshots arrive over time, so a map can change as new evidence appears. A dated revision history lets you see whether a placement is based on a recently released frame or on an older assumption. Undated maps make it harder to evaluate why a road or region moved.
Rank #4
Prefer explanations over percentages
There is no verified, publisher-backed percentage for how accurate a GTA 6 community map is. Statements such as “85% accurate” create false precision unless they identify a named source, a measurement method and a date. “Best current reconstruction” or “provisional estimate” is more honest when the map’s evidence is mixed.
Why two fan maps can disagree and both be reasonable
Trailer perspective is not a survey instrument. A wide-angle shot can make distant objects appear aligned; a cropped frame can remove the road that connects two visible landmarks; and a scene may be edited for storytelling rather than geographic continuity. If one map assumes a straight road and another assumes a curve hidden behind a building, both can fit the available images.
Unseen terrain creates another gap. A trailer may show a coastline from the water but not reveal the inland boundary. A city skyline can identify a district without showing whether a river, highway or industrial belt lies between it and the camera. Community cartographers must choose among several layouts until Rockstar supplies more views or players can walk the route in-game.
Map scale is especially vulnerable to error. Without a known distance, a fan can preserve the order of landmarks while stretching or compressing the spaces between them. A visually convincing map may therefore have the right relationships but the wrong overall size.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. Are GTA 6 map leaks real?
Leak imagery is not a reliable authority on the final map. PC Gamer reported on August 18, 2026, that purported clips and map images had unknown authenticity and could have come from an outdated build. That qualification is decisive: even genuine footage from an earlier development build might not represent the released game.
Use leak material, if you encounter it, as a lead for a question—not as confirmation of an answer. A leak-only location should remain outside the authoritative layer of a community map unless Rockstar later confirms it through official media. Evidence-focused mapping guides explicitly exclude leak-derived placements from their confirmed layer for this reason.

Warning signs of a weak leak claim
- No verifiable source, capture context or date.
- Unknown development build or a claim that cannot be tied to a released version.
- Images cropped so tightly that landmarks, interface details or continuity cannot be checked.
- Map lines presented as exact borders even though the underlying image shows only a partial scene.
- Confident percentage claims with no named methodology.
A practical method for checking a GTA 6 map claim
- Identify the claim. Is it a setting, an official name, a visible feature, an estimated relationship, an exact coordinate or a leak-only location?
- Find the first-party evidence. For setting and names, check Rockstar’s published release and official media. For a visible feature, locate the specific frame or screenshot.
- Assign the proper label. Mark the item as “Named by Rockstar,” “Visible in official media” or “Estimated from visual clues.” Keep leak reports in a separate, non-authoritative category.
- Test the geometry. Compare sight lines, road curves, bridges, shoreline shape and repeated structures across more than one frame. Do not infer a coordinate from a single perspective if several layouts fit it.
- Record uncertainty. Note which part is confirmed and which part is estimated. If the border, scale or route is not published, say so directly.
- Check the date. A map based on older trailer material may not include later official evidence, while a leak may depict an outdated build.
- Share the narrow conclusion. Say “Rockstar showed this landmark” or “this is the current community estimate,” rather than presenting the whole reconstruction as official.
What players can safely say right now
You can accurately say that GTA VI is set in Leonida, that Vice City is its principal city, and that Rockstar has officially named Leonida Keys, Port Gellhorn, Grassrivers, Ambrosia and Mount Kalaga National Park. You can also identify features Rockstar visibly shows in its official material.
You should qualify statements about where those places sit, how large they are, which roads connect them and where the final borders fall. Those details belong to provisional community reconstruction until an official map or direct in-game verification settles them.
The same discipline applies when discussing a “full map.” A detailed fan graphic may be the most useful visualization available, but it is not evidence that Rockstar has released a complete map. Calling it a community reconstruction tells readers what they are looking at and prevents an attractive estimate from becoming a false fact through repetition.

Rockstar’s May 6, 2025 release confirms Grand Theft Auto VI for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S, and states that the Trailer 2 footage was captured on PlayStation 5. The release platform information identifies the versions covered by that announcement; it does not supply a separate official map for each platform. Any future differences in release builds would need to be verified from Rockstar’s own documentation or from the finished game.
Bottom line
For confirmed GTA 6 geography, Rockstar’s official material is more accurate by definition. For a working picture of how Leonida’s roads, landmarks and destinations may fit together, an evidence-labeled community map is currently the most useful supplement. Neither source establishes exact coordinates, scale or final boundaries until Rockstar publishes a complete map or players verify the layout in the released game.
