There is no official PC compatibility check for GTA 6 or GTA 6 Online yet. As of October 18, 2026, Rockstar’s published Grand Theft Auto VI information gives a November 19, 2026 release date for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S, but does not list a PC edition, PC release date, or PC system-requirements table.
You can still prepare a useful compatibility check by recording your computer’s specifications now and comparing them with Rockstar’s eventual PC table. Until that table exists, any claimed minimum GPU, processor, RAM amount, storage figure, or frame-rate target is unofficial.

Rockstar’s current Grand Theft Auto VI page and platform-support information establish the console launch details, not a Windows version. The published information is limited to the following:

“GTA 6 Online” does not have a separate published target
Rockstar has not published a separate PC specification for the online component either. The phrase “GTA 6 Online” describes the online mode readers expect to accompany Grand Theft Auto VI; it does not point to an available PC package with its own requirements. A separate online requirements table could eventually appear, but none is currently available.

Do not confuse the announced console platforms with a hidden Windows release. A console launch can be fully scheduled while a PC edition remains unannounced. Until Rockstar names Windows as a platform and supplies technical requirements, there is no legitimate way to certify a desktop or laptop.
Why a definitive PC answer is impossible today
A compatibility verdict requires at least two things: an announced PC build and a hardware target from its publisher. Neither appears in Rockstar’s checked Grand Theft Auto VI materials. Without those details, it is impossible to say responsibly that a particular RTX card, Radeon card, processor generation, memory capacity, or SSD will run the game.
Rumor graphics and videos often present a neat “minimum” and “recommended” list. They may be based on guesses, leaked material, or extrapolation from another game, but they are not an official answer unless Rockstar publishes the figures. Even a computer that comfortably runs Grand Theft Auto V cannot be certified for an unannounced Grand Theft Auto VI PC version.
A forum post can also blur several different questions: whether a game starts, whether it is officially supported, and whether it reaches a chosen resolution or frame rate. Those are not equivalent. A component might launch an application but fall below the publisher’s supported floor, while a system above minimum might still need lower settings. Only Rockstar’s wording can define those boundaries.
How to record your PC’s specifications now
Make an inventory before a PC requirements page appears. Save the exact model names rather than broad descriptions such as “gaming laptop” or “16 GB graphics.” The same model family can contain substantially different CPUs, GPUs, power limits, and memory configurations.
- Record Windows and the processor. Open Settings > System > About. Write down the Windows edition and build, the processor’s complete model name, and whether the system is 64-bit. The future requirements page may distinguish an operating-system version or architecture, so retain the wording exactly as Windows displays it.
- Record installed memory. Open Task Manager > Performance > Memory. Note the total installed RAM and, if shown, the memory speed and whether a substantial amount is reserved for hardware. Installed capacity is different from currently free memory; requirements normally refer to the former.
- Identify every graphics processor. In Task Manager > Performance, select each GPU entry. Record the integrated GPU, the discrete GPU, and the dedicated GPU memory (VRAM) shown for the discrete device. Laptops can list both an integrated and a discrete adapter, and a game may need to use the latter. Do not add the memory values together as if they were one graphics card.
- Check free storage on the installation drive. Go to Settings > System > Storage and note the available space on the drive where you would install the game. Record whether that drive is an SSD or hard disk. A requirements table may specify both a capacity and a storage type; having enough free space on a different drive does not satisfy an installation constraint.
- Check DirectX and driver information. Press Windows key + R, enter
dxdiag, and review the DirectX version and display-driver details. When Rockstar publishes its table, install current drivers from the GPU manufacturer and compare the driver and graphics-API requirements with the documented target. - Check available upgrade paths. For a desktop, identify the motherboard’s supported memory and storage interfaces. For a laptop, look up the exact model’s service manual to see whether RAM or storage is replaceable. Do not assume that a product-family name guarantees an upgrade slot.
- Save the results. Keep a dated note or screenshot of the values. Hardware names, free storage, Windows builds, and drivers change. A record lets you compare the same machine accurately when the official page is updated.
How to compare your computer with Rockstar’s eventual table
Use the publisher’s wording line by line rather than relying on a single automated “can I run it?” result. Rockstar’s current Grand Theft Auto V PC requirements page demonstrates the categories its PC documentation uses: operating system, processor, memory, video card, storage, audio and DirectX, launcher and account requirements, and internet access.

Minimum is not the same as recommended
A minimum specification generally identifies the lowest supported configuration, often for reduced settings. A recommended specification is a safer starting point for a higher preset or smoother experience. Do not attach a specific resolution or frame rate to either tier unless Rockstar publishes that target alongside the table.

Pass every category independently. A computer can exceed the RAM target but fail the GPU or storage requirement. Likewise, a fast desktop processor does not compensate for an unsupported graphics API or an installation drive that lacks the required space.
Look for qualifiers in Rockstar’s eventual notes. A requirement may apply only to a particular preset, resolution, operating-system edition, or graphics feature. If the table gives separate targets for ray tracing or other options, compare those rows separately instead of treating one “recommended” label as universal.
Extra checks for gaming laptops
Laptop model names conceal important differences. Two machines sold under the same family name can use different graphics chips, memory arrangements, or power limits. Compare the exact GPU and CPU shown in Windows, not only the laptop’s retail name.
- Confirm the active adapter. In a game’s graphics settings or Windows graphics preferences, make sure the discrete GPU is selected when one is installed. An integrated adapter may be used when the laptop is on battery or in a power-saving mode.
- Check power and thermal behavior. Mobile GPUs with the same label can perform differently at different wattages. Keep the charger connected, use the manufacturer’s performance profile, and ensure vents are unobstructed when you eventually test the game.
- Check upgrade limits. Some laptops have soldered memory or storage. If Rockstar’s table requires more RAM or space, verify that your particular model can be upgraded before buying parts.
- Allow for sustained load. A laptop may begin a demanding game at full speed and reduce clocks as it heats up. A requirements match is a compatibility threshold, not a guarantee that every laptop will maintain the same performance as a desktop with the same nominal components.
Launcher, account, and online requirements
Rockstar’s current Grand Theft Auto V PC documentation says that installation and online play involve a Rockstar Games account and network login, internet access for activation and online play, the Rockstar Games platform, DirectX, Chromium, Microsoft Visual C++ components, and periodic entitlement verification. Those details show the kinds of software and connectivity checks a Rockstar PC release can require, but they are not Grand Theft Auto VI requirements until Rockstar publishes them for that game.

Online play can fail even when hardware passes. Account credentials, entitlement verification, launcher updates, firewall rules, and an unavailable authentication service are separate from CPU or GPU capability. Keep those checks in a separate column when troubleshooting rather than labeling every startup problem a hardware failure.
Rockstar’s service-status page reported all listed PC, GTA Online, Rockstar Games Launcher, authentication, and online services as operational at 16:32 UTC on October 18, 2026. That snapshot is useful when diagnosing a current sign-in or outage problem; it cannot establish that a future Grand Theft Auto VI PC edition will exist or that its services will use the same components.
What not to buy yet
Do not purchase a GPU, processor, RAM kit, or SSD solely because a rumor labels it “GTA 6 ready.” No unofficial target can prove that a component will meet Rockstar’s eventual minimum or recommended tier, and a broad hardware upgrade may still leave an operating-system, graphics-API, storage-type, or launcher problem unresolved.

- Do not treat a guessed RTX or Radeon class as an official minimum.
- Do not assume that adding RAM alone will solve a graphics-memory or CPU limitation.
- Do not buy an SSD based on an invented storage number; wait for Rockstar to state the capacity and whether an SSD is required.
- Do not use a third-party benchmark or frame-rate promise as a substitute for a publisher requirement.
- Do not insert a generic “best gaming PC” or component recommendation into a purchase decision as though it were matched to GTA 6. There is no verified product fit or defensible hardware target today.
The sensible cost decision is therefore to spend nothing specifically for GTA 6 until Rockstar publishes both a PC platform listing and requirements. Normal maintenance—freeing storage, updating drivers, or replacing failing hardware—can still be justified for your existing games, but those actions should not be presented as proof that the new title will run.

- Confirm the page is Rockstar’s. Check that the table is attached to the official Grand Theft Auto VI or Rockstar support documentation and note its publication or update date.
- Copy the complete table. Capture minimum and recommended rows, operating-system wording, CPU and GPU models, VRAM, RAM, storage capacity and type, graphics API, and any stated resolution or frame-rate target.
- Update your inventory. Recheck Windows, drivers, installed memory, active GPU, VRAM, and free space because these may have changed since your original note.
- Compare in order. Start with operating system and architecture, then CPU, RAM, GPU and VRAM, storage, API, and launcher or internet requirements. Mark each item as meeting or missing the stated target.
- Classify the result. A system that meets every minimum row is within the documented support floor. A system that meets the recommended row is closer to Rockstar’s stated higher-performance target. A missing row means you still need the publisher’s clarification rather than a guess.
- Check the game’s own settings guidance. If Rockstar identifies a preset, resolution, or frame rate for a tier, use that context when deciding whether an upgrade is worthwhile. A requirements table without a performance target cannot promise a particular frame rate.
Requirements can change after release
Rockstar states on its current PC requirements page that downloadable content and programming changes can alter a game’s system requirements over time. Recheck the official page after major updates rather than treating the launch table as permanent. Keep graphics drivers, Windows, and required launcher components current, while preserving enough free space for patches.
That warning matters especially for a persistent online service. New content can increase storage use, while patches may change supported drivers or other software dependencies. Keep the original table and each later update note so you know which version you used for a compatibility decision.
Practical answers to common PC questions
Can my PC run GTA 6 because it runs GTA V?
That comparison is not conclusive. GTA V’s published requirements describe a different game and cannot certify an unannounced Grand Theft Auto VI PC build. Use GTA V only as evidence that your system supports Rockstar’s existing PC software, not as a prediction of the next game’s target.
Do I need an RTX graphics card?
Rockstar has not published a Grand Theft Auto VI PC GPU requirement, so no RTX model or equivalent can be named as necessary. Wait for the official GPU, VRAM, and graphics-API rows.

Will a gaming laptop work?

When is GTA 6 coming to PC?
Rockstar’s checked materials publish the November 19, 2026 launch for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S, but do not publish a PC release date. Any different date remains unconfirmed until Rockstar announces it.
