Grand Theft Auto VI launches on November 19, 2026, for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. Preorders opened at midnight local time on June 25, 2026. There are two game editions: Standard and Ultimate. Both qualifying preorders include the Vintage Vice City Pack; Ultimate adds a large collection of vehicles, weapons, clothing, businesses and locations.
For most players, Standard is the sensible starting point. Choose Ultimate if the named in-game extras matter to you, or buy Standard first and add the digital Ultimate Edition Upgrade later. The physical package is not a disc: it contains a download code, and both physical and digital buyers can begin preloading on November 12.

Preorders opened on June 25, 2026, at midnight local time. Take-Two Interactive and Rockstar Games identify four legitimate purchasing routes: the PlayStation Store, Microsoft Store, Rockstar Games Store and established global retailers.

The launch date is November 19, 2026. The announcement names PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S only. It does not provide a PC release date, so a PC version should not be assumed from a console preorder listing.
Important dates
- June 25, 2026: preorders opened at midnight local time.
- November 12, 2026: digital preload begins at local midnight, and the physical release becomes available with a download code to support preload.
- November 19, 2026: GTA VI launches.
- March 31, 2027: PlayStation’s stated deadline to redeem the one-month GTA+ offer attached to a qualifying digital preorder.
The November 12 preload date is seven days before release. Preloading lets the console download the game in advance, but access remains locked until the official launch time set by the platform and publisher.
What is included in each GTA 6 edition?
Standard Edition
Standard includes the GTA VI base game and, when the purchase qualifies under the published preorder terms, the Vintage Vice City Pack. The Standard purchase is available digitally and as a physical box containing a download code.

Ultimate Edition
Ultimate includes the game plus the Ultimate Edition Upgrade. Rockstar describes the additions as content threaded through Jason and Lucia’s story, with new items uncovered behind each chapter rather than as a single detached cosmetic bundle.
The published Ultimate list includes:
- Vehicles: the ’95 Grotti Cheetah, Shitzu Squalo, the ’67 Vapid Dominator Buggy and Garage, Jason’s Safehouse Vehicles, and the Ganado Retro Build.
- Weapons: Hawk & Little Morgan Revolvers and personalized weapon variants.
- Vice City customization: Vice City styles, Goodtime Gear and the Stock 305 Clothing Store.
- Businesses and services: Rideout Customs Mod Shop, Sara’s Unisex Salon, Electric Fang Tattoo Parlor and One-Eyed Willie’s Mod Shop.
- Locations and activities: the PTT Youngin$ Compound and the Classic Car Collection.
The list describes named items and locations, not a separate campaign. The game remains the same GTA VI story experience; Ultimate adds the specified extras to that experience.
Can Standard be upgraded?
Yes. Rockstar Support says Standard owners can buy the Ultimate Edition Upgrade digitally after redeeming the Standard download code. Xbox lists that upgrade separately at $20 in 2026. There is no physical Ultimate Edition, so anyone who wants Ultimate content through a physical purchase must use the physical Standard code and then complete the upgrade digitally.

Vintage Vice City Pack
The Vintage Vice City Pack is attached to both editions when the order meets the stated preorder conditions. It contains:
- The ’55 Vapid Stanier Sedan.
- A Garage for the vehicle.
- Outfits and hairstyles.
- An exclusive weapon pattern.
Because the pack is listed for both Standard and Ultimate, buying Ultimate is not necessary just to obtain the preorder item. The edition decision is about the Ultimate additions described above.
One month of GTA+ for digital preorders
Digital preorders also include one month of GTA+, but the redemption rules differ by platform. PlayStation states that its offer ends November 19, 2026 and must be redeemed by March 31, 2027. Xbox states that its offer must be redeemed within 180 days of the preorder. These are platform-specific terms, so read the offer text on the store page used for the purchase and save the redemption deadline.
The GTA+ month is an account benefit associated with the digital preorder; it does not turn a physical code purchase into a disc-based entitlement. If the offer is important to you, confirm that the listing explicitly says the one-month benefit is included before completing checkout.

The physical box contains a download code, not a disc
Rockstar Support, updated August 18, 2026, states: “The physical version of Grand Theft Auto VI, containing a download code inside the box, will be available starting November 12 to support pre-loading. A disc will not be included in the box.”

That means the physical Standard Edition is a packaged code product. You will need an internet connection to redeem the code and download the game. The box does not provide an offline disc install, and inserting the box into a console will not launch a disc copy because there is no disc inside.
When physical orders arrive
Retailer shipping and pickup are expected from November 12, when codes can be redeemed for preload. Delivery timing is controlled by the retailer and carrier, so an order placed before launch is not a guarantee that the code will be in your hands before November 19. Check whether the listing promises release-day delivery, pickup on November 12, or only dispatch from that date.
Digital preload
Digital preload begins at local midnight on November 12. The console account must own the digital purchase, and a physical buyer must redeem the code before the download can begin. If the game does not appear on the preload date, verify the purchase or code status on the same account used to buy it, then check the store’s library and download queue.

Where to buy GTA 6 safely
PlayStation 5
Use the PlayStation Store for a digital PS5 purchase, or choose a reputable retailer selling the PS5 physical Standard Edition code package. Confirm that the listing says PlayStation 5; a code for another platform cannot be used on PS5.
PlayStation codes are grouped by region. The code’s region must match the region of the PlayStation account that will redeem it. Buying from the same country or region as the account is the simplest way to avoid an activation error.
Xbox Series X|S
Use the Microsoft Store for a digital Xbox purchase, or select a reputable retailer’s Xbox Series X|S listing. Rockstar Support says Xbox codes are not region-locked, but matching the retailer’s market to the account still avoids currency, tax and customer-support complications.
Rockstar Games Store
The Rockstar Games Store is one of the channels named in Take-Two’s preorder announcement. Check whether the product is a direct digital entitlement or a physical code package, and confirm the console format before ordering.
Retailer checklist
- Verify the platform label: PS5 or Xbox Series X|S.
- Check whether the product is Standard, Ultimate Upgrade or a complete Ultimate digital purchase.
- Read whether the item is digital delivery, physical packaging with a code, shipping or store pickup.
- Confirm that the Vintage Vice City Pack is included under the listing’s preorder terms.
- For digital orders, check the one-month GTA+ language and its platform deadline.
- For PlayStation, match the code region to the account region.
- Keep the receipt, order number and code-delivery email until the game and bonuses are visible in the account.
Avoid listings that do not identify the platform, edition, seller or region. A very low price can represent an account transfer, an already-redeemed code or a different market rather than a legitimate discount.

Choose Standard if you want the complete game and preorder pack
Standard is the straightforward choice if your priority is playing the GTA VI story and receiving the Vintage Vice City Pack. It includes the same base game as Ultimate, and the preorder pack is not exclusive to Ultimate. It is also the only physical edition available.
Choose Ultimate if the named extras justify the premium
Ultimate makes sense for players who specifically value the additional vehicles, weapon variants, clothing, businesses, customization locations and other named items. The extras are integrated into Jason and Lucia’s progression, so they are intended for players who want the expanded set from the beginning rather than only the base release.
Buy Standard first if you are undecided
The digital upgrade route reduces the risk of paying for content you may not want immediately. Redeem the Standard download code, play the game, and purchase the Ultimate Edition Upgrade later if the additional content becomes worthwhile. This option is digital-only for the upgrade; it does not create a physical Ultimate box.
Do not choose by preorder bonus alone
Both editions receive the Vintage Vice City Pack under the published terms, and digital preorders on both editions carry the one-month GTA+ offer subject to the platform rules. The deciding factor is therefore the Ultimate content and the convenience of digital versus physical ownership, not a bonus that is limited to one edition.

Official GTA VI merchandise is separate from the game
Rockstar Store also lists the Grand Theft Auto VI: The Goodtime State – Vice City Collection, a premium collector’s box priced at $399.99 in 2026, along with apparel and collectibles. This is merchandise, not a game edition. It does not replace a PS5 or Xbox Series X|S preorder, and its contents should not be confused with the Vintage Vice City Pack or the Ultimate Edition Upgrade.
Preorder and preload troubleshooting
“My PlayStation code says it cannot be redeemed.”
Check the account’s country or region against the code’s region. Rockstar groups PlayStation codes by region, so a code purchased for another market may fail even when the console model is correct. Contact the retailer before attempting repeated redemptions if the region does not match.
“I bought a box, but there is no disc.”
No disc is expected. The physical GTA VI package contains a download code, as confirmed by Rockstar Support. Redeem that code on the correct console account, then start the preload from the store library or download queue.

“The preload is not available on November 12.”
Confirm that the console has reached local midnight on November 12, that the digital purchase is on the account currently signed in, or that the physical code has been redeemed. Also check whether the retailer has actually delivered the code; shipping from November 12 is not the same as delivery before that date.
“The Vintage Vice City Pack is missing.”
Review the order confirmation to ensure it was a qualifying preorder and that the listing identified the pack. For a physical purchase, confirm that the included code covers both the game and the pack rather than only a base-game entitlement. If the store listing promised the pack and it is absent after redemption, use the retailer’s order support and retain your proof of purchase.
“I cannot find the GTA+ month.”
Check the platform-specific terms. PlayStation’s stated redemption deadline is March 31, 2027, while Xbox requires redemption within 180 days of preorder. Verify that the purchase was digital and that the offer was shown on the store page. An expired or unredeemed offer may not appear automatically in the game’s download queue.
“I bought Standard but now want Ultimate.”
Redeem the Standard download code first, then locate the digital Ultimate Edition Upgrade on the same platform account. Xbox lists the upgrade separately at $20 in 2026. A physical Ultimate Edition cannot be substituted because Rockstar does not offer one.
