Where is GTA 6 set, and who are its characters?
The story follows Jason and Lucia in Vice City and the wider state of Leonida. PlayStation describes Leonida as the state containing Vice City’s neon-soaked streets and areas beyond the city. PlayStation’s June 24, 2026 article introduces the setting and protagonists.
Rockstar’s synopsis, carried in Take-Two’s announcement, says that after an easy score goes wrong, Jason and Lucia are caught in a conspiracy stretching across Leonida and must rely on one another to survive. That is the official story framing; it does not establish further plot details.

Does the physical GTA 6 copy have a disc?
No. Rockstar says the boxed physical Standard Edition contains a code for a digital download, not a game disc. The company expected retail availability to begin November 12, 2026, to support preloading; digital preloading was scheduled to begin at local midnight on November 12. These dates and arrangements are subject to change, so check the retailer and Rockstar’s current support information. Rockstar’s platforms, editions and versions page covers the boxed format.
Check account region before buying a boxed code
Rockstar warns that code redemption depends on the region associated with the platform account. Its support page describes PlayStation codes as divided into region groups and Xbox codes as not region-locked. Rockstar recommends buying and playing from a retailer in the country of the platform account to avoid activation problems. Cross-border buyers should review the current country-specific terms rather than assume every code will work in every region.

What PS5 features does PlayStation describe?
PlayStation says the PS5 version uses DualSense haptic feedback and adaptive triggers, controller-speaker audio, Tempest 3D AudioTech and the PS5 SSD for near-instant loading. These are PlayStation’s feature descriptions, not independent measurements or comparative benchmarks. PlayStation’s article about the PS5 version provides the details.
Which version should you choose?
The confirmed launch choices are PS5 and Xbox Series X|S; PC is not confirmed in the official information reviewed as of October 8, 2026. For the two listed console options, compare the factors that affect your own purchase:
- Console you own: Choose a platform you can play on; the announced date applies to PS5 and Xbox Series X|S.
- Local price and stock: The announced $79.99 and $99.99 prices are US figures from June 2026. Check your country’s platform store or retailer for current terms.
- Edition content: Standard includes the game; Ultimate adds the upgrade and its listed bonuses.
- Purchase format: A boxed physical Standard Edition is a download-code box, while digital purchases are made through the applicable platform store.
- Account region: Check Rockstar’s code-region guidance if you are considering a code bought outside your account’s country.
- PS5 controller and audio features: Consider PlayStation’s described DualSense and audio features if those matter to your setup; they are not a substitute for a platform comparison test.
What is confirmed—and what remains open?
Take-Two’s June 2026 release also reported more than 470 million units sold-in worldwide across the Grand Theft Auto series. That is a company-reported franchise figure, not GTA 6 sales. The release does not give a more precise measurement period.
Mary Yee, Sony Interactive Entertainment’s Senior Vice President of Marketing, wrote on PlayStation.Blog: “Since Grand Theft Auto first arrived on the original PlayStation in 1997, the series has defined generations of play.” The release date and console platforms are announced, while PC availability remains unconfirmed in the official information reviewed as of October 8, 2026. Prices and offers should be checked against current local listings.
