Why did May 26, 2026 appear as the date?
Rockstar announced May 26, 2026, as the then-planned date on May 2, 2025. The company apologized for the delay from prior expectations and said it needed more time to reach the quality level players expected. That announcement was accurate at the time, but it was later superseded.
How the release date changed
- May 2, 2025: Rockstar announced May 26, 2026, as the planned release date in its release-date announcement.
- November 6, 2025: Rockstar changed the date to Thursday, November 19, 2026, saying the additional months would help the team finish the game with the expected level of polish. This is the later date and the one currently listed by Rockstar.
Platforms and physical version
Rockstar lists PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. Its June 24, 2026, preorder announcement said preorders would begin June 25 and described the game as a single-player experience. It also said the boxed physical version would be available starting November 12 and contain a download code inside the box; it is not a disc-based copy according to that announcement.
