A fan account flagged more than a dozen supposed mistakes in the Grand Theft Auto VI reveal trailer, but the examples reported so far do not establish that Rockstar made technical errors. Some are visible details; others—such as a missing shadow—depend on assumptions about how the game renders a scene. Whether they count as mistakes is therefore a judgment, not a confirmed verdict.
What the fan account called mistakes
HotHardware reported on September 3, 2024, that @GTAVI_Countdown posted a thread of more than a dozen posts under the opening line “Mistakes Rockstar made in the GTA 6 trailer.” The report said the thread had more than 37 million views and that the trailer had passed 200 million YouTube views at that time. Those are figures reported in 2024, not current view counts. The original X thread was not accessible to the report, so its wording and numbers are available here through HotHardware’s account, not an independent check of the posts.
Two examples in the report concern the reveal trailer’s visual details. The first is Lucia’s hair in a speeding convertible; the second is a rooftop pool scene involving a necklace shadow and hair texture. The observations can be discussed, but the sources do not show that Rockstar confirmed either as an error.
Lucia’s hair in the convertible
HotHardware quoted the account’s complaint as “missing wind physics on Lucia’s hair that doesn’t match the speed of the car.” That describes an apparent mismatch between the car’s motion and the hair’s movement in the trailer frame. It does not, by itself, establish why the hair looks that way or whether it reflects a gameplay-system failure: a single cinematic shot cannot show how the hair behaves across other situations.

As a viewer’s critique, the point is understandable: hair that appears unaffected by a fast-moving car can look less convincing. As a technical diagnosis, “missing wind physics” goes beyond what the reported frame alone demonstrates.
The rooftop pool scene: shadow and hair texture
The second example was described by the account, as quoted by HotHardware, as “missing necklace shadow and the hair appears grainy/pixelated.” These are two different observations: one concerns a shadow that appears absent, and the other concerns how the hair looks in the image.

HotHardware reported that a community note disputed the necklace-shadow interpretation, saying the game was “using Shadowmaps which trade pixel perfect accuracy for more performance unlike Ray Traced Shadows.” That is the note’s explanation as reported by HotHardware, not an independently verified account of Rockstar’s rendering choices. Shadow maps can involve a performance-versus-accuracy trade-off, but the available reporting does not establish which technique produced this particular frame or prove that the apparent shadow is an intentional result.
The grainy or pixelated hair is likewise an appearance claim, not evidence on its own of a specific rendering defect. Without a verified technical analysis of the original frame, it is more accurate to say the hair looked rough to the account than to state that Rockstar made a confirmed mistake.

When does a visual oddity count as a mistake?
A frame can look imperfect without revealing the cause. A missing-looking shadow or hair that seems not to respond to motion is observable; claims about the rendering method, physics simulation, or production status are explanations that require more evidence. A trailer may also reflect creative choices about image quality and performance, or material that is not final. HotHardware raised those possibilities, but did not confirm the status of any cited frame.
- Visible detail: what appears in the shot, such as hair movement, a shadow, or image grain.
- Technical cause: why it appears that way, such as a rendering trade-off or a physics-system limitation.
- Confirmed error: a mistake acknowledged or established by reliable technical evidence. The cited reporting supplies no such confirmation from Rockstar.
This distinction matters because the reveal trailer is evidence of what Rockstar showed, not a complete technical inspection of the game. The examples support a debate about visual polish; they do not settle whether the underlying game systems are broken or whether the final game will retain those details.

Which GTA VI trailer is being discussed?
The claims concern the reveal trailer discussed in HotHardware’s September 2024 report, not every later video. Rockstar’s official GTA VI media page currently lists Trailer 1, Trailer 2, and “An Extended Look.” The later additions do not change what was or was not established about the specific reveal-trailer frames in the report.
