Because GTA VI’s announcement is still a preview, it is too early to make a complete song-by-song judgment or declare one game’s soundtrack universally better.
What Rockstar has confirmed for GTA VI’s soundtrack
Rockstar describes GTA VI as having its “biggest and widest-ranging selection of in-game radio and podcasts yet.” The wording matters: the announcement confirms the direction and several stations, but it is not a final, complete playlist. Six stations have been previewed publicly, each with a defined musical identity and named presenters.

GTA VI is announced with in-game podcasts as well as music stations. That is a meaningful format change for readers comparing it with GTA V. Podcasts can carry longer conversations, comedy, commentary or fictional programming than a conventional music DJ break, allowing the world to communicate ideas without displacing a song. Rockstar has not yet published a complete podcast list, episode count or listening interface, so the confirmed point is the feature itself rather than its final scope.

Justice is composing the original score
Rockstar credits Justice with GTA VI’s original score. The score is a separate layer from licensed songs heard through car radios: it covers music written to support missions, exploration, transitions or other non-radio moments. Rockstar has previewed “Flower in a Hurricane,” featuring Tame Impala, SZA and King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard. That preview demonstrates the project’s musical ambition, but it should not be counted as a radio-station track unless Rockstar specifically places it there.
A 34-track album is planned for physical release
Grand Theft Auto VI: The Album is announced as a 34-track collection of original tracks. Rockstar says it is coming November 19, 2026, and presents pre-order options for vinyl and CD editions. The album is described as capturing the energy of Vice City and Leonida with a genre-defying roster of artists. This is a standalone product announcement, not a claim that GTA VI contains only 34 pieces of music: station playlists, podcast audio and the interactive score are separate components.
Vinyl and CD availability, pricing and stock can differ by territory and retailer. Rockstar’s announcement establishes the formats and the 34-track count; it does not establish a universal regional price or guarantee that every territory will receive identical inventory.

What GTA V launched with and how it expanded
GTA V’s released music ecosystem is easier to measure because the game and its updates have been available for years. Rockstar’s archive documents a large collection of stations covering established formats, with presenters and tightly curated identities that make Los Santos feel like a city with its own media culture.

Rockstar’s archive also lists additional stations and updates. The important comparison is structural: GTA V’s released baseline is a network of many established brands, while GTA VI’s publicly confirmed material is a smaller set of newly highlighted formats that may grow before launch.
The 150-song refresh on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One
For the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One refresh, Rockstar documented 150 new songs, including new and original tracks across stations such as Los Santos Rock Radio, Rebel Radio, Non Stop Pop FM and Radio Los Santos. This was an expansion after the original release, so the phrase “GTA V soundtrack” can mean the launch catalog or the expanded version depending on the edition being discussed.
GTA Online later received additional stations and playlist updates. Those additions should be labeled as online content rather than silently folded into the base single-player launch soundtrack. A comparison that counts every GTA Online update against GTA VI’s pre-release preview will produce a misleading result.

Flash FM connects the new game to Vice City’s established pop-radio identity. The Chamber adds a dedicated metal outlet, making the preview broader than a simple collection of pop, rap and electronic stations. Together, the six stations suggest that GTA VI’s curation will move between local identity, regional history and globally circulating sounds.
GTA V builds a dense Los Santos media map
GTA V’s strength is its density and contrast. A player can move from classic rock to pop, West Coast hip-hop, country, indie, punk, electronic, funk, soul or world music without leaving the car. Station names themselves create a map of Los Santos: Radio Los Santos and West Coast Classics emphasize regional rap history; Rebel Radio and Los Santos Rock Radio frame different versions of American roots and rock culture; Worldwide FM and FlyLo FM widen the city’s sonic horizon.
The 150-song next-generation expansion matters because it shows Rockstar treating radio as an evolving feature rather than a fixed launch asset. Songs were added across several major stations, extending the life of the catalog and giving returning players a reason to revisit familiar frequencies.
Why a simple song count does not settle the comparison
Counting tracks is useful only when the editions and content layers match. GTA V has a released station catalog, a documented 150-song PlayStation 4/Xbox One expansion and separate GTA Online additions. GTA VI currently has six previewed stations, an announced podcast feature, a named score composer and a 34-track album. The 34 tracks are not a confirmed total for every piece of music in the game, and the six stations are not a confirmed final station count.

Format diversity is another reason totals can mislead. A one-minute station song, a podcast episode, a mission cue and a standalone album track serve different purposes. GTA VI’s announcement broadens the comparison from “which game has more songs?” to “how many different ways does each game deliver music and audio?”
Is GTA VI’s soundtrack better than GTA V’s?
There is no defensible universal winner before GTA VI’s complete catalog is released. The answer depends on what you value.
Choose GTA VI as the stronger proposition if you value
- Newer genre representation, especially modern Latin, amapiano, 3-step and current Southern rap.
- A dedicated metal station rather than relying on rock and alternative stations to cover heavy music.
- Podcasts as an explicit part of the in-game audio system.
- A separately identified original score by Justice.
- A collectible 34-track album announced for both vinyl and CD.
Choose GTA V’s soundtrack as the stronger proposition if you value
- A larger released network of station brands that can be explored immediately.
- Classic Los Angeles and West Coast radio identities alongside pop, country, rock, electronic, soul and world formats.
- A catalog whose later 150-song console expansion is already documented.
- The ability to judge the complete available playlist rather than an announcement preview.
For a head-to-head verdict today, GTA VI wins on confirmed presentation features and contemporary breadth, while GTA V wins on catalog certainty and the amount of released station material. That is a comparison of documented strengths, not a prediction about which game will become a listener’s personal favorite.

- The complete song list and the number of songs assigned to each station.
- The names, format and episode count of the in-game podcasts.
- Whether the 34-track album overlaps with radio songs, score material or contains an entirely separate selection.
- Regional differences in the album’s vinyl and CD availability, pricing and stock.
- The extent of post-launch radio or online updates.
Any article or video presenting the six previewed stations as the entire GTA VI soundtrack is overstating what Rockstar has confirmed. A reliable comparison should label these details as a preview until the final catalog is published.
Can you buy the GTA VI soundtrack on vinyl or CD?
Yes, Rockstar has announced Grand Theft Auto VI: The Album as a 34-track release with vinyl and CD pre-order options. The announcement gives collectors a clear product to look for, but a purchase decision still requires checking the retailer serving your country. Confirm the edition, number of discs, shipping territory, currency, release date and return terms before ordering. Rockstar’s announced date is November 19, 2026; retailer pages may display their own availability or shipping estimates.
The physical album should not be confused with a complete dump of every sound heard in the game. It is a 34-track standalone release, while the radio stations, podcasts and interactive score are separate parts of GTA VI’s audio design.
How to compare the games without mixing editions
- Define the GTA V version. Decide whether you mean the original launch soundtrack, the PlayStation 4/Xbox One edition with its 150 new songs, or GTA Online content added later.
- Define the GTA VI evidence level. Use the six stations and podcast, score and album announcements as confirmed preview information, not a final playlist.
- Separate audio layers. Count radio, podcasts, original score and the standalone album independently.
- Compare like with like. Measure station variety against station variety, physical album formats against physical album formats and released catalogs against announced catalogs.
- State the edition and date. A conclusion should identify the version of GTA V and acknowledge that GTA VI’s catalog can change before and after release.
Bottom line for listeners
GTA VI’s confirmed soundtrack presentation is broader in format and more deliberately contemporary: six previewed stations span modern Latin, renegade country, African and amapiano styles, metal, pop and Southern rap; podcasts are explicitly included; Justice is writing the original score; and a 34-track album is planned for vinyl and CD. GTA V remains the safer choice for anyone who wants a fully released, extensively documented radio catalog, especially when its 150-song PlayStation 4/Xbox One expansion is included. Until Rockstar reveals the complete GTA VI playlist, the fairest verdict is feature breadth for GTA VI versus catalog depth and certainty for GTA V.
