The confirmed launch platforms are PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S, with the console release announced for November 19, 2026. Any PC parts list circulating now is speculation, not an official minimum or recommended configuration.
What Rockstar has officially confirmed
Rockstar’s own customer-support platform listing says: “You can pre-order Grand Theft Auto VI for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S.” That is the complete confirmed platform information currently available for launch. The official game site and launch announcement do not publish a Windows edition, a PC release date, or a table of processor, graphics-card, memory and storage requirements.

That distinction matters because a system-requirements article can easily turn estimates into apparent facts. There is no Rockstar statement establishing a GTA 6 PC minimum, recommended specification, target resolution, target frame rate, ray-tracing requirement, launcher requirement or free-space number. Consequently, nobody can reliably answer “Can my PC run GTA 6?” from an official benchmark or compatibility list yet.

Rockstar has confirmed only the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S launch versions. A PC version has not been announced by Rockstar. TechRadar has reported that GamesBeat heard from four anonymous industry sources that a PC edition is planned for the first quarter of 2027. That is an unverified media report, not a company announcement, and it should not be treated as a guaranteed date.

- Model Number CFI-2000
- Includes DualSense Wireless Controller, 1TB SSD, 2 Horizontal Stand Feet, HDMI Cable, AC power cord, USB cable, printed materials, ASTRO’s PLAYROOM (Pre-installed game)
- Vertical Stand sold seperately
The reported window also does not establish hardware requirements. PC ports can arrive later with different graphics options, performance targets and technical features than their console counterparts. Until Rockstar publishes a PC listing or support page, a 2027 estimate is a reason to wait for information rather than a reason to purchase a particular graphics card today.
The confirmed way to play at launch
If your priority is guaranteed access to the announced launch version, the supported choices are a PlayStation 5 or an Xbox Series X|S. Those platforms are the targets Rockstar has named, so their fixed hardware avoids the uncertainty surrounding a future Windows port.
- PlayStation 5: Sony’s current console is an officially listed platform and provides the hardware configuration Rockstar is targeting for that version.
- Xbox Series X|S: Both models are included in Rockstar’s platform listing. The listing confirms compatibility with the Series family, but it does not provide a PC-equivalent specification for either model.
Buying a console is not proof that a similarly equipped PC will run a later port. It is simply the only way, at present, to choose a confirmed launch platform rather than an unannounced version.
What the PlayStation 5 specifications tell us—and what they do not
Sony’s published PlayStation 5 technical material describes the console target as follows:
| Component | Published PlayStation 5 specification | How to interpret it for a PC |
|---|---|---|
| CPU | x86-64 AMD Zen 2, 8 cores and 16 threads | A description of the console processor, not a Windows minimum CPU. |
| Graphics engine | 10 TFLOPS, AMD RDNA-based | A console GPU figure that cannot be converted directly into a specific desktop graphics card. |
| Memory | 16 GB of GDDR6 | Unified console memory; a PC divides system RAM and graphics VRAM differently. |
| Ray tracing | Hardware ray-tracing support | Evidence that the console hardware supports the feature, not proof that every PC preset will require it. |
| Storage | Ultra-high-speed SSD | Shows that fast solid-state storage is part of the console design, without stating a PC install size or drive requirement. |
These specifications establish the broad class of hardware for which the game is being designed on PlayStation 5. They do not yield an exact PC parts list. A Windows version could expose selectable resolutions, frame-rate limits, texture-quality presets, ray-tracing modes and upscaling options that do not exist in the same form on console. Its memory allocation would also differ because a PC reserves RAM for the operating system and uses separate VRAM on the graphics card.
Why console teraflops and memory cannot become a PC minimum
Console and PC specifications describe hardware in different ways. A console game is built around one fixed CPU/GPU combination, a known operating-system environment and a shared memory pool. A PC release must support many processor generations, driver versions, motherboard configurations, memory capacities and graphics APIs.
Even a seemingly precise comparison can mislead:
- Teraflops are not a universal speed rating. Architecture, clock behavior, cache, memory bandwidth, game-engine workloads and driver overhead all affect frame rate.
- Unified memory is not equivalent to VRAM. The PlayStation 5’s 16 GB is shared by CPU and GPU. A PC’s system RAM and graphics memory have separate capacity and bandwidth characteristics.
- Resolution changes the workload. A port tuned for a console’s fixed output can offer 1080p, 1440p and 4K modes on PC, each with different GPU demands.
- Frame-rate goals change CPU demand. Holding 30 frames per second and delivering 60 or more frames per second are materially different tasks, especially in a large open world.
- Optional features alter requirements. Ray tracing, high-resolution textures and advanced reflections may be selectable rather than mandatory, so “minimum” and “recommended” can describe very different experiences.
For those reasons, using the PlayStation 5’s Zen 2 CPU or 10-TFLOPS graphics figure as a shopping specification would create false precision.

What to do with your current PC today
You can prepare without pretending to know an unsupported requirement. Record your system information, identify upgrade constraints and postpone expensive changes that are justified only by an unannounced port.
- Record the processor. Open Windows Settings, choose System, then About, and note the processor model. The model number is more useful than a generic label such as “Core i7” or “Ryzen 7.”
- Check memory capacity. In Settings > System > About, note installed RAM. Task Manager’s Performance > Memory page shows capacity and current usage, which can reveal whether other applications already consume most of it.
- Identify the graphics card. In Task Manager, open Performance > GPU and record the exact model and dedicated graphics memory. If more than one GPU is listed, note which one runs demanding applications.
- Check the system drive. File Explorer shows free space, while Settings > System > Storage identifies the drive. Keep in mind that an eventual PC installer may require additional temporary space during installation or updates; Rockstar has published no GTA 6 number.
- Confirm the operating system. Use Settings > System > About to check the Windows edition and whether it is 64-bit. Do not assume that compatibility information for an older game applies to a future release.
- Review power and cooling. Before replacing a GPU, verify the power-supply capacity, available power connectors, case clearance and airflow. A faster card can fail to fit or can expose thermal and power limits that a specification sheet does not show.
Save these details in one note. When Rockstar eventually publishes requirements, you will be able to compare your machine against the official minimum and recommended rows instead of relying on an anonymous parts list.
Should you upgrade your GPU or CPU now?
Wait if GTA 6 is the only reason
With no official PC edition or requirements, an upgrade made solely for GTA 6 has no confirmed performance target. A new graphics card purchased today could be excessive for the eventual minimum, insufficient for a high-resolution ray-traced preset, or mismatched with your processor. Waiting preserves the option to choose hardware based on actual launch data.
Upgrade for an existing need
An upgrade can still make sense if your current PC already struggles with the games and applications you use. In that case, choose hardware for those known workloads and treat GTA 6 compatibility as unknown. Do not describe the purchase as “GTA 6 ready” until an official specification and independent testing establish what that means.

Upgrade the limiting part, not the most visible part
If current games show high GPU utilization while the processor has headroom, a graphics upgrade may improve performance. If frame rates fall in CPU-heavy scenes while the GPU is underused, a processor, platform or memory upgrade may help more. These observations describe your present games; they cannot predict an unannounced port, but they prevent an expensive upgrade based on a guess.

A useful Rockstar requirements table should answer more than whether a computer starts the game. Compare each item below, and check the conditions attached to every number.
| Requirement axis | Questions the official listing should answer |
|---|---|
| Minimum versus recommended | Which configuration targets launchability, and which targets a defined quality or performance level? |
| Resolution | Is the target 1080p, 1440p or 4K, and at what image-quality preset? |
| Frame rate | Is the stated result 30, 60 or a higher frame-rate target, and is it an average or a cap? |
| Ray tracing | Is hardware ray tracing optional, required for a preset, or unavailable on the minimum configuration? |
| VRAM and system RAM | How much dedicated graphics memory and regular system memory are needed for each tier? |
| Storage | What free-space figure is required, and does the listing specify an SSD or additional update space? |
| Operating system and launcher | Which 64-bit Windows version, graphics API, driver support and account or launcher components are required? |
| Upscaling | Are technologies such as temporal or AI upscaling expected for a stated resolution and frame-rate target? |
Those qualifiers are essential. “Runs at 4K” is incomplete without a frame rate, preset, ray-tracing mode and upscaling setting. Likewise, a memory number without a texture-quality target does not tell you whether it applies to the minimum or recommended experience.

GTA V requirements are historical context only
Rockstar’s legacy PC minimum for Grand Theft Auto V is sometimes copied into GTA 6 articles. It must not be used as a prediction for the newer game. The older listing specifies Windows 10 64-bit, an Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 or AMD Phenom 9850-class processor, 4 GB of RAM, an NVIDIA GeForce 9800 GT with 1 GB of graphics memory, and 125 GB of storage.
| GTA V legacy minimum | Published value | Why it cannot answer the GTA 6 question |
|---|---|---|
| Operating system | Windows 10 64-bit | It reflects an older title’s software support. |
| CPU | Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 or AMD Phenom 9850-class | It is not a GTA 6 processor requirement. |
| Memory | 4 GB RAM | It does not describe the newer game’s world, engine or asset budget. |
| GPU | NVIDIA GeForce 9800 GT, 1 GB class | It is an obsolete GTA V baseline, not a modern graphics target. |
| Storage | 125 GB | It does not establish GTA 6’s install or update size. |
Use that list only when checking whether a computer meets GTA V’s historical requirement. It provides no defensible estimate for GTA 6.
What the evidence means for different PC players
Building a new gaming PC
Do not select a processor or graphics card on the promise that it will run GTA 6. Buy for games with published requirements and for the resolution and frame rate you actually use. Keep the build upgradeable, with adequate power delivery, cooling, memory and solid-state storage, so you can respond when official GTA 6 data exists.
Owning a recent gaming PC
There is no official basis for labeling it compatible or incompatible. Keep drivers and Windows current for your existing games, but wait for Rockstar’s specification before replacing hardware.
Needing a guaranteed launch platform
Choose one of the PlayStation 5 or Xbox Series X|S versions listed by Rockstar. This decision is about confirmed availability, not about converting console specifications into a PC equivalent.

No official GTA 6 PC requirements exist. The PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S are the confirmed launch platforms, and the PlayStation 5’s Zen 2 CPU, RDNA-based 10-TFLOPS graphics engine, 16 GB GDDR6 memory, hardware ray tracing and high-speed SSD describe a console target rather than a Windows parts list. A reported Q1 2027 PC window remains unconfirmed. The sensible plan is to document your current system, avoid GTA 6-only upgrades, and judge any future purchase against Rockstar’s published minimum and recommended specifications when they arrive.
