Its centerpiece was Ludendorff Cemetery Survival, where players fought waves of undead in the North Yankton town of Ludendorff. Rockstar first set a community goal of 80 million zombie defeats; it later reported that players passed 800 million and defeated nearly a billion undead in one week.
What was the North Yankton Nightmare Community Challenge?
Announced by Rockstar Games on October 10, 2024, the event centered on Ludendorff Cemetery Survival, a zombie-themed Survival mode set in Ludendorff, North Yankton. Players could start the mode from the Survival map blip. Its waves included ambling corpses, colossal juggernauts and possessed animals. Rockstar’s announcement described the community task as protecting Ludendorff from the undead.
The challenge had two separate tracks: an individual weekly objective with its own reward, and a shared community target based on the total number of zombies defeated in the new mode.
What rewards were available?
Individual weekly challenge
Players who survived three waves without dying earned the Gray Creepy Cat Mask and GTA$100,000. This was an individual objective; it was separate from the community’s cumulative zombie-defeat goal.

Community rewards
The original community target was 80 million zombie defeats. Reaching it was tied to the Orange Glow Skeleton Onesie and Red Hooded Skull Mask. After players passed the initial target, Rockstar raised the goal to 800 million. Passing that threshold unlocked the Purple Glow and Green Glow Skeleton Onesies, in addition to the original community rewards.
Mode bonus
Rockstar also advertised 2X GTA$ and RP on Ludendorff Cemetery Survival through October 23, 2024. That bonus period has ended.

How many zombies did players defeat?
Rockstar reported that players defeated more than 200 million zombies in two days, then raised the community target to 800 million. On October 25, it said players had passed 800 million and unlocked the additional outfits. In a November 1 retrospective, Rockstar described the one-week result as “nearly a billion undead.” These are Rockstar’s reported event totals, not independently audited figures. Rockstar’s November 1 community update recapped the result.

No. Rockstar’s November 1, 2024 update describes the North Yankton Nightmare Community Challenge as a recent past event. Its weekly objective, community targets and advertised bonus period are over. The original instructions—start from the Ludendorff Cemetery Survival map blip—applied during the event, and the announcements do not establish that the challenge or its rewards are currently available.
