If GTA Online hangs on a black screen while you enter your Agency, first check Rockstar’s service status. If services are operational, try a different session or entry route as low-risk experiments; neither is a confirmed Agency-specific fix. If the problem keeps happening, record when and how it occurs and contact Rockstar Support.
What is known about the Agency loading-screen issue?
Players reported infinite or black loading screens when entering the Agency during the December 2021 period of The Contract update. Those reports confirm that players experienced the symptom at the time, but they do not establish its cause, how common it is now, or a reliable fix. No published prevalence or success-rate figures are established for this exact issue.

Rockstar’s support article dated September 17, 2026 concerns a different trigger: a black loading screen while creating an additional character. Its Crew-change workaround is for returning to character selection, not for an Agency-entry hang, so it should not be treated as a solution here: Rockstar Support.
Check whether GTA Online services are operational
Start with the Rockstar service status page. As of October 8, 2026 at 02:41 UTC, it listed GTA Online as operational on PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, and PC. That is a time-specific status snapshot, not a guarantee that every connection, session, or interior transition is working normally.

If the status page shows an outage or disruption, wait for service recovery before trying disruptive or costly changes. If it shows operational service, continue with session-level experiments.
Try low-risk session and entry-route experiments
Historical player reports described different outcomes depending on lobby conditions or the route used to enter the Agency. These are anecdotal observations from the 2021 update period, not controlled tests or an official Rockstar fix. You can try:

- Leaving the current session and trying again in a different session.
- Entering the Agency by a different available route.
Change one thing at a time and note whether the hang recurs. A successful attempt does not establish that the workaround will work consistently or for other players.
What to record if the black screen keeps returning
When contacting Rockstar Support, include details that help distinguish an Agency transition problem from a broader connection or session issue:

- Your platform and game version.
- Whether you were in a public or other session type.
- How you tried to enter the Agency.
- Whether the hang happens every time or only intermittently.
Rockstar’s support hub links to a GTA Online network troubleshooter. Its general account-connectivity guidance recommends checking service status and whether a proxy or VPN is involved; that is general connectivity advice, not evidence that changing a VPN or proxy fixes this specific Agency-entry hang.

The reviewed official guidance does not establish cache deletion, reinstalling the game, changing VPN settings, buying a router, upgrading hardware, or changing Crews as fixes for an Agency-entry loading screen. Avoid treating those steps as proven remedies for this symptom.
