For a short time, an unofficial project at PlayGTA5.com appeared to let people play Grand Theft Auto V in a web browser. Reports published October 6, 2026, described it running in Chrome on an Apple computer with an M3 Pro chip. The site no longer loaded when those reports were updated, so this is not a confirmed way to play GTA V now.
What happened
Wccftech reported that users had briefly made GTA V playable through PlayGTA5.com. Its coverage highlighted a demonstration by Pixel Gamer 4K showing the game in Google Chrome on an Apple machine with an M3 Pro chip. VideoCardz reported the same demonstration. The project was not an official Rockstar release, and the reports do not establish that Rockstar was involved.
Pixel Gamer 4K’s post, dated October 6, 2026, was quoted as saying, “GTA 5 is now playable on web browser” and “Here I am playing GTA 5 on chrome.” That is a user post as reproduced by the reports, not a statement from Rockstar. (Pixel Gamer 4K post, as quoted by the reports)
Can you play GTA V in a browser now?
The October 6 reports said PlayGTA5.com no longer loaded. They do not establish whether it has become available since then, and they do not confirm why it stopped loading. Wccftech noted that the person who shared the demonstration speculated about Rockstar, but neither report confirmed a Rockstar takedown. (Wccftech; VideoCardz)

There is no verified current browser version to recommend on the strength of this coverage. A page or video claiming to offer the project should not be treated as official or assumed safe simply because it uses the same name.
How did GTA V run in a browser?
The reports described something that appeared to go beyond conventional cloud gaming: the game seemed to execute locally in the browser rather than being streamed from a remote gaming server. VideoCardz proposed WebAssembly as a possibility, but that was a hypothesis, not a confirmed implementation detail. It also could not establish whether the project used WebGL or WebGPU.

VideoCardz reported that the browser downloaded around 700 MB before the game started, with more assets possibly downloaded during play. That is a reported initial download, not a verified total game size or a benchmark. There was no technical documentation showing whether the original executable had been recompiled, translated through a compatibility layer, or specially modified. The demonstration therefore does not establish general hardware requirements or prove that the game would work on other systems. (VideoCardz)

What to use if you want to play GTA V
For a supported way to play, use an official Grand Theft Auto V release for your platform. The browser demonstration was a separate, unofficial project; buying the game does not provide access to it. The reports do not verify a price, platform requirement, or current availability for any particular edition.
