Boranium Art recreated the recognizable shots from the original Grand Theft Auto VI trailer using Minecraft-built scenery, then brought those builds into Unreal Engine 5 for rendering and lighting. It is a fan-made animated video—not GTA VI running inside Minecraft, a playable mod, or a complete recreation of the game’s map.

Who made the Minecraft GTA VI trailer recreation?

The recreation was made by Boranium Art, a Miami-based creator team led by Ray Escobar, who worked with three collaborators. Their video follows recognizable scenes from the original GTA VI trailer while translating its environments and characters into a block-built, Minecraft-inspired style. PC Gamer’s interview with Escobar describes the team and the choices behind the recreation.

It also adds Minecraft-specific substitutions and jokes. One clear example is a Drowned mob standing in for the trailer’s alligator. The project is a fan recreation, not an official Rockstar Games production or an endorsed version of GTA VI.

Was the video actually made or played inside Minecraft?

No. The team built the visible environments and assets in Minecraft, but the finished cinematic was assembled outside the game. In a creator-attributed Reddit post, Boranium Art clarified: “No, it’s not actually running in Minecraft.”

  • Minecraft is a game about placing blocks and going on adventures
  • Explore randomly generated worlds and build amazing things from the simplest of homes to the grandest of castles
  • Play in creative mode with unlimited resources or mine deep into the world in survival mode, crafting weapons and armor to fend off the dangerous mobs
  • Play on the go in handheld or tabletop modes
  • Includes Super Mario Mash-Up, Natural Texture Pack, Biome Settlers Skin Pack, Battle & Beasts Skin Pack, Campfire Tales Skin Pack; Compatible with Nintendo Switch only

The team did not build the entire GTA VI map. It made the portions needed for the shots shown in the video; Escobar also said some scenery was duplicated subtly. That means the result recreates selected trailer scenes, not a complete explorable world. Boranium Art’s clarification explains that distinction.

How did Boranium Art make it look like a trailer?

  1. Build the scenes in Minecraft. The team created Minecraft versions of the visible environments and assets rather than recreating the full game map.
  2. Export the builds with Mineways. The Minecraft geometry was exported and brought into Unreal Engine 5, where the team cleaned up the assets and worked on lighting. Escobar said he spent time matching or approximating the original trailer’s lighting.
  3. Animate the characters in Maya. Escobar explained that character animation was done in Autodesk Maya, not Unreal Engine 5: “The characters are, however, animated in Autodesk Maya, not UE5.”
  4. Render the cinematic in Unreal Engine 5. Unreal Engine 5 provided the scene-rendering and lighting stage that helped the block-built environments resemble the source trailer’s presentation.

HotHardware reported that assembling the project took about one-and-a-half months. That is the outlet’s report of this project’s timeline, not a general estimate for making similar videos.

How does it compare with Rockstar’s original trailer?

The fan video’s appeal is in translating familiar shots rather than reproducing the original game technically. It keeps recognizable scene composition, swaps details for Minecraft references, and uses a separate animation and rendering workflow to present the result as a polished cinematic. For the official source material, Rockstar’s GTA VI videos page lists Trailer 1 and Trailer 2; Boranium Art’s work is a fan-made interpretation of the original trailer’s visible shots.
