Guerrilla has announced Horizon Hunters Gathering, a cooperative action game set in the Horizon universe. It is planned for PS5 and PC via Steam, supports teams of up to three Hunters, and has no announced release date. Its official listings describe solo play with two Hunter NPCs, cross-play, and account-linked cross-progression.
What is Horizon Hunters Gathering?
Horizon Hunters Gathering is a new cooperative action game from Guerrilla, not a confirmed mainline single-player sequel. Players take the roles of Hunters and fight machines in missions built around tactical combat and teamwork. Guerrilla describes the game as fully canon, with a narrative campaign featuring new characters, mysteries, and threats; the story is also expected to continue beyond launch.

The game is set after Horizon Forbidden West. PlayStation says it is designed as a standalone adventure, so newcomers should be able to follow it without playing earlier Horizon games. PlayStation’s official game page has the current platform and play information.
How do its missions and Hunters work?
Guerrilla has announced two mission modes, a roster of Hunters with distinct combat styles, and a social hub between missions. The studio says Hunters can be shaped with a rogue-lite perk system, letting players adapt a build to their preferred style and team.

Machine Incursion
This high-intensity mission sends waves of machines through underground gateways and ends with a boss encounter.
Cauldron Descent
This longer, multi-stage trial moves through changing rooms and machine encounters. Optional hidden doors can lead to additional power and rewards.

Where can you play, and what multiplayer options are confirmed?
The announced platforms are PS5 and PC through Steam. PlayStation’s FAQ confirms online matchmaking, cross-play, and cross-progression when players log in and save with the same PlayStation account. The game supports up to three online players.

Cross-play and cross-progression are distinct: cross-play lets players on supported platforms play together, while cross-progression depends on logging in and saving with the same PlayStation account. The cited PlayStation FAQ specifies the account condition for cross-progression but does not detail every setup step.
When does Horizon Hunters Gathering release?
No release date or launch window has been announced in the official PlayStation FAQ. Steam lists the game as “Coming soon” and says it is not yet available. Guerrilla and PlayStation say more release information will be shared later; the current listings do not establish when that will be. Check the Steam listing or PlayStation’s game page for changes.

What is known about playtests?
Guerrilla planned a small closed playtest for late February 2026 through the PlayStation Beta Program. A subsequent PlayStation Blog update dated May 5, 2026, announced another test for May 22–25. That test was set to include Hunters Ensa and Shadow, a playable Episode, the Breakers’ Bounty region, Hard and Merciless difficulty options for Machine Incursion, and NPC Hunter assistance in solo play. Guerrilla said it was testing with small groups to focus on the core experience and use player feedback.
PlayStation’s current page invites players to register for upcoming tests, but registration does not guarantee access. It says unsuccessful applicants may have additional chances later in 2026; it does not confirm dates or outcomes for any later test. Check the current PlayStation Beta Program information rather than assuming a past or future test is open.

What is confirmed about purchases?
Steam discloses in-game purchases, in-game chat, and online interactivity. The reviewed listings do not specify what purchases will be offered, their prices, or the final monetization model, so the disclosure alone does not establish whether purchases are cosmetic, gameplay-related, or something else.
