How the Hypnos quest works
The prophecy advances through three incantations. Brew each spell at the Crossroads cauldron, give its Dream Vapor to Hypnos, and complete the dream sequence it triggers. The third sequence is the one that completes the prophecy and wakes him.
Supergiant’s v1.0 launch patch notes confirm that the game adds another attempt to rouse Hypnos “after a certain point,” but do not specify the trigger or recipe. The detailed steps below are from GameSpot’s September 2025 walkthrough. Check your cauldron for recipes as they appear, especially if your progress or game version differs.

Before you brew the first incantation
- Speak with Hypnos in the Crossroads and give him two Nectar.
- Obtain at least one Poppy.
- Speak with Medea when she appears in Ephyra. Her conversations may take multiple runs to advance.
Complete the three slumber incantations
1. End to Deepest Slumber
Brew this incantation using one Molly, two Mandrake, and three Poppy flowers, according to GameSpot. Give the resulting Dream Vapor to Hypnos to start the first dream sequence, then complete it.
2. End to Dearest Slumber
After the first dream and further character progression, brew the second incantation and give its Dream Vapor to Hypnos. GameSpot describes its requirements as the first incantation’s ingredients plus one additional Mandrake. Because the guide does not provide a separately verified full ingredient list for this stage, use the recipe shown in your in-game cauldron rather than relying on that description as an exact list. Complete the dream sequence that follows.

3. Get Soot after the credits
See the main story credits first. On a later Underworld run, visit the NPC room in the final region when it appears and give the NPC Nectar; GameSpot reports that this is how you obtain Soot. The walkthrough does not name the NPC, so rely on the encounter and in-game prompts rather than a guessed name.
4. End to Dumbest Slumber
With Soot, brew the final incantation using two Poppy flowers, one Shaderot, and one Soot, as listed by GameSpot. Give its Dream Vapor to Hypnos and complete the resulting dream. This finishes the Soundest of Sleepers prophecy and wakes Hypnos. Claiming the prophecy reward grants two Nightmares, according to the guide.

If Hypnos is still asleep
- The first or second dream did not wake him: That is expected; only the third incantation completes the prophecy.
- You cannot progress a conversation: Speak with Medea and Hypnos again over later runs; the walkthrough notes that dialogue can take multiple runs to advance.
- The final recipe is unavailable: Confirm that you have seen the credits and obtained Soot, then check the cauldron for the currently available recipe.
- Your ingredients do not match: Use the in-game cauldron’s displayed recipe. The late-game details come from a third-party walkthrough, while the official patch notes confirm the added attempt without giving its recipe.
