In Hades II, the Crossroads Cauldron turns gathered materials into lasting unlocks, new routes, and useful conveniences. Recipes appear as your save advances, so the Cauldron in your own game—not a fixed walkthrough list—is the authority on what you can cast and what it costs.
What incantations do
The Cauldron is a progression hub at the Crossroads. Most incantations are one-time rites: pay the displayed ingredients, cast the recipe, and its feature becomes available. Their effects range from opening routes and core systems to adding resource support or convenience. They are not simply combat spells. Vandal’s Cauldron overview describes the recipes and rewards, while JustGameGuides’ current database separates incantations from alchemy.
Alchemy is different: its recipes can be repeated, consume ingredients each time, and may take a number of transitions between chambers or locations—called “Whiles”—to finish. Check the recipe’s displayed process rather than expecting every Cauldron entry to unlock instantly. GameSpot’s mechanics overview and JustGameGuides explain this distinction.
How to unlock more incantations
Recipes become available as you reach progression milestones and encounter more of the game. Triggers can include defeating Guardians, visiting regions, collecting materials, using gathering tools, casting earlier rites, and seeing character events. Because route structure and story progress differ between runs, there is no reliable universal order or exact run number for every recipe. Vandal notes that discovery order varies, and GameSpot outlines the progressive unlock system.
#1 Best Overall
- Battle beyond the Underworld using dark sorcery to take on the Titan of Time in this bewitching sequel to the award-winning rogue-like dungeon crawler.
- Return to the Crossroads after runs and inspect the Cauldron for newly available recipes.
- Talk to characters at the Crossroads; conversations and events can contribute to progression.
- Explore regions, collect unfamiliar resources, and use tools or previously unlocked systems when available.
- If a hoped-for rite is still absent, continue the story and check again later rather than assuming it has been permanently missed.
Each known recipe shows its requirement in the Cauldron. Use that save-specific list for ingredient costs: materials and story state vary with progression, and older guides may show costs from earlier builds.
Which incantations should you prioritize?
Choose according to what is blocking your progress. Route and major-system rites usually have the widest impact; gathering, resource, and survival support can make subsequent runs more productive. Late-game recipes may depend on substantial story progress, so do not treat them as early-game shopping targets. The categories below are a practical way to decide what to cast next, not a guaranteed unlock order.
Rank #2
- Battle beyond the Underworld to vanquish the Titan of Time as the Princess of the Dead in this bewitching sequel to the original rogue-like dungeon crawler. Hades II lets players explore a bigger, deeper mythic world with the full might of Olympus at their call in a story that reacts to their every setback and accomplishment.
Open routes and core systems
- Permeation of Witching-Wards: Opens Warded gateways, including the Surface route. Vandal lists Cinder, Shadow, and Moly among its ingredients. Its route access is valuable when you are ready to pursue that path.
- Unraveling a Fateful Bond: Removes the Surface curse and draws on resources from both routes, including Thalamus, Nightshade, Lotus, and Moss. It is a later progression goal, not a rite to expect before you can gather those materials.
- Consecration of Ashes: Opens Arcana upgrades, a major system for shaping your build.
- Fated Intervention: Uses Silver, Ashes, and Moly and unlocks the Fated List.
Improve gathering and resource flow
- Night’s Craftwork: Uses Moly to unlock gathering tools, enabling access to materials gathered through those tools.
- Reagent Sensing: Also uses Moly and provides post-encounter resource sensing, helping you spot available reagents.
- Flourishing Soil: Creates garden plots where plants can grow.
- Summoning of Mercantile Fortune: Costs Bones and summons the Wretched Broker, adding a resource-trading option at the Crossroads.
Add survival support and useful references
- Lifespring rites: The current database describes a regional chain: Woodsy in Erebus, Briny in Oceanus, Golden in Tartarus, Sandy in the Rifts of Thessaly, then Frozen on Mount Olympus. These are regional support options, so their usefulness depends on which route you are exploring.
- Insight into Offerings: Reveals boon information in the Book of Shadows, a reference feature for players who want more information while planning.
Account for late-game costs
Some advanced rites call for scarce or route-specific resources. The current database highlights Fate Fabric as a recurring requirement across many rites; it also lists Dissolution of Time with Zodiac Sand and Entropy, and Disintegration of Monstrosity with Gigaros. Treat these examples as version-specific and check your Cauldron before planning a material grind. JustGameGuides’ inventory is independent rather than official, so its entries are best used alongside the game’s own list.
How to read the current recipe list
JustGameGuides reports 95 combined Cauldron results—incantations and alchemy recipes together—in Hades II build 23661331, updated September 25, 2026. That is not a count of 95 incantations. The inventory is useful for breadth, but exact recipe names, costs, and unlock conditions can change with the game version. Check the database and your in-game Cauldron for current details.

- Battle out of hell: As the immortal Prince of the Underworld
- Unleash the fury of Olympus: The Olympians have your back!
- Befriend gods, ghosts, and monsters
- Built for replayability: New surprises await each time you delve into the ever-shifting Underworld
- Signature Supergiant style
Older coverage can still help explain mechanics, but do not mix its early-access ingredient totals with current v1.0 costs. For example, GameSpot’s guide was published in May 2024; use it for the broad interface and alchemy explanation, not as the final authority on today’s recipe prices. Vandal also cautions that its list may omit recipes and that discovery order varies.
Why is a recipe not showing up yet?
- You have not reached its trigger: A rite may depend on a Guardian, region, earlier incantation, material, tool, or character event.
- You have not encountered the relevant event: Talk to Crossroads characters and continue advancing the story; a recipe can be gated by story state.
- You are comparing against an incomplete or older list: Guides can omit entries, and older costs may no longer match the current build.
- You are looking at an alchemy recipe: It may be repeatable and require Whiles to complete rather than behave like a permanent incantation.
Supergiant’s v1.0 announcement says the launch update added the true story ending, character events, Fated List prophecies, late-game unlockables, and other finishing touches: official v1.0 announcement. That breadth of story and late-game content is another reason not to assume an absent recipe is permanently unavailable.
