Hades II’s Warsong Update arrived on February 19, 2025, as the game’s second Major Update in Early Access. It added Ares and his Boons, expanded the surface route to a new final confrontation, and brought a substantial set of story, Arcana, and quality-of-life changes. Warsong was a free update to the Early Access game—not a standalone expansion—and Hades II has since launched in version 1.0.
What the Warsong Update added
Supergiant Games announced Warsong on February 19, 2025, calling it Hades II’s second Major Update. Its headline addition was the “Final Confrontation on the surface,” with the studio inviting players to discover what lay beyond the Guardian of Olympus. The announcement also highlighted Ares, a new Familiar, a newly illustrated Altar of Ashes, expanded Crossroads interactions, new music, and more than 2,000 new voice lines and events with most of the cast. Ares joins the Olympians
Ares arrived as an Olympian who offers Boons. Supergiant also noted new and improved Boons as part of the update, but the precise balance details in contemporary guides describe the 2025 update rather than necessarily reflecting the current version of the game.
The new surface confrontation
Epic Games Store’s February 20, 2025 guide identifies the new boss as Typhon and the new area as the Summit. Epic describes Typhon’s projectile, egg, and tentacle attacks, and says defeating him awards the Void Lens, an item used in late-game incantations. Arcana, familiars, and other changes
The update introduced a newly illustrated Altar of Ashes with reworked Arcana effects, and added Gale the Polecat as an Animal Familiar. Epic’s guide says Gale provides movement-speed and dodge benefits. Supergiant also cited streamlined resource gathering and new Crossroads interactions among the changes.
Is Warsong a separate purchase?
No. Warsong was a free, automatic update for the then-Early Access versions on Steam and the Epic Games Store. It was not a separate expansion or physical product. If you buy Hades II now, you are buying the game rather than a standalone copy of Warsong.

How to play Hades II now
Hades II launched in version 1.0 on September 25, 2025. Supergiant’s FAQ, updated April 14, 2026, lists the game for Steam, Epic Games Store, Nintendo Switch 2, Nintendo Switch, Xbox Series X|S, and PlayStation 5. The Xbox and PlayStation editions launched on April 14, 2026. Check the official Hades II FAQ for the studio’s current platform information.
Digital or physical on Switch
Supergiant announced a standard game card for Nintendo Switch 2 and Nintendo Switch, available November 20, 2025. The card works with both consoles and includes a 32-page character booklet, reversible cover, and soundtrack download code. This is a physical edition of Hades II, not a Warsong-specific release. Cross-save compatibility
According to Supergiant’s FAQ, cross-saves work between Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Switch 2, and between Steam and Epic Games Store. The studio says cross-saves with the other versions are unavailable.

Supergiant also announced official merchandise made with Fangamer: a Frinos plush, a Melinoë poster, and a Nectar ornament. These are fan items, separate from the game and its updates. Availability can change; the announcement does not establish current inventory.
