That was not a Valve announcement, and the “coming to Steam soon” wording belongs to that 2021 coverage—not a verified current release window. The sources available here do not establish whether the collection was completed or is now available.
Was the Remastered Collection an official Valve game?
No. Contemporary coverage described it as a fan-made project associated with Filip Victor, who had worked on Half-Life 2: Update. PC Gamer’s report said a SteamDB listing described it as “a mod from Filip Victor, not Valve related.” That wording was attributed to the listing in PC Gamer’s account; it was not a statement from Valve. The claim that the project had Valve’s “blessing” is best understood as reported consent. PCGamesN attributed that claim to Valve and Source reporter Tyler McVicker, rather than citing a direct Valve announcement. PCGamesN’s report The reviewed sources do not establish that Valve developed, published, or officially announced the collection.
What was planned for the collection?
Reports described an expanded update to Half-Life 2 that was expected to include Half-Life 2: Episode One and Episode Two. Treat those as reported plans, not a confirmed final contents list: the sources do not provide a definitive project page or verified final feature list. PCGamesN and PC Gamer
#1 Best Overall
- Amazing new graphics with pre-rendered cutscenes that look like they came from the movies
- More realistic physics - Objects have varied and appropriate mass, density and physical properties
- Incredibly advanced AI as enemies adapt, plan, improvise, and respond
- Hordes of new aliens and other enemies, plus a plethora of new guns and weapons
Is it actually coming to Steam now?
The “coming soon” claim dates to the 2021 reports. The sources reviewed for this article do not verify a launch, whether development continued or concluded, current Steam availability, pricing, or a release date. So it is not possible to say from this evidence that the collection is currently coming to Steam.
Valve’s official Half-Life 2 announcements page lists an official update from July 2025, but that update does not confirm the status of Filip Victor’s separate project.

How it differs from Half-Life 2 RTX
Half-Life 2 RTX is a separate project by Orbifold Studios. Steam identifies it as a “community-made mod,” says it is free for owners of Half-Life 2, and lists a demo featuring Ravenholm and Nova Prospekt. Those details apply to Half-Life 2 RTX, not to the Remastered Collection. Half-Life 2 RTX on Steam
