As of September 15, 2026, the latest sourced report said Valve had not publicly confirmed Half-Life 3 or announced a release date. No trailer or platform was confirmed in that report, either. “HLX” references and insider claims may point to a project, but they are not an announcement from Valve. Because the latest status report located is dated September 15, this should not be read as a status check through October 8, 2026.
Does Half-Life 3 exist?
There is no public confirmation that Half-Life 3 exists as a released or officially announced game. A September 15, 2026 report says Valve had not confirmed the game, its trailer, or its release date by that point. That establishes what Valve had publicly announced according to the report—not whether a confidential project is in development.

Valve is the company behind the Half-Life franchise, but its press page is company information, not a Half-Life 3 announcement. The available public evidence does not establish the game’s development status internally.
What is the Half-Life 3 release rumor based on?
A September 2026 report describes dataminers finding “HLX” references in Valve files and says insiders, including Tyler McVicker, have characterized HLX as a new Half-Life project. These are reported clues and claims, not confirmation by Valve. They do not establish the final title, whether the project will ship, its platforms, or when it might release.

The same report says an earlier prediction of a spring 2026 hardware launch did not happen, and characterizes a July claim that 2026 may no longer be a target as unconfirmed. Neither statement should be treated as an announced release window.
When is Half-Life 3 coming out?
There is no publicly announced release date in the latest dated report located, published September 15, 2026. That report also says no trailer or platform had been confirmed. Any specific date or window circulating elsewhere should be treated as rumor unless Valve announces it.

Hardware-linked predictions deserve particular caution: predictions tied to Valve announcements in November 2025 and June 2026 did not produce a Half-Life 3 announcement. Those misses do not prove the game is or is not in development; they do show why a predicted hardware reveal is not evidence of a release date.

Valve officially announced Half-Life 2: Episode 3 in 2006. That historical announcement is sometimes blurred with later Half-Life 3 rumors, but the titles refer to different claims: the former was announced, while a Half-Life 3 announcement has not been established in the cited record. A Steam-hosted retrospective recounts that distinction and reproduces a statement from an anonymous Valve developer interviewed by Game Informer in January 2017: “Valve has never announced a Half-Life 3.” That is a historical quotation, not a current statement from a named Valve spokesperson.

Valve later announced Half-Life: Alyx in 2019. It is an official Half-Life game, but it is not Half-Life 3.

How to judge the next Half-Life 3 rumor
- Look for a Valve announcement. Insider posts, datamined strings, and predictions are not the same as a statement from Valve.
- Check exactly what is being claimed. A project code name does not establish the game’s title, release date, or platforms.
- Check the date and outcome. Earlier hardware-tied predictions missed their stated announcement opportunities; a new prediction is still only a prediction until Valve confirms it.
- Separate public facts from development status. The lack of an announcement does not reveal whether a confidential project exists.
