Choose Halloween: The Game if you want to play Michael Myers in a dedicated solo story or hunt civilians in a Haddonfield-focused 1v4 mode. Choose Dead by Daylight if you want its established one-Killer-versus-four-Survivors format, cooperative Survivor play, Bloodweb progression, and broader rotating map roster. One important difference for new buyers: as of October 7, 2026, the Halloween chapter in Dead by Daylight can no longer be unlocked.

Is Halloween: The Game like Dead by Daylight?
They share the asymmetrical horror setup of a powerful hunter facing several vulnerable opponents, but their emphasis differs. Halloween: The Game is built around Michael Myers and Haddonfield, and includes a solo story as well as its multiplayer mode. Dead by Daylight focuses on its one-Killer/four-Survivors match structure, cooperative Survivor play, and character progression. The overlap is the broad genre, not an identical set of modes or objectives.

What do you do in each game’s multiplayer?
Halloween: The Game: stalk, warn, rescue, escape
As Michael, you stalk residents and pursue special targets, using abilities the developer describes as Killer Sense, Shape Jump, and Shape Dash. As a civilian, your tasks include finding residents, warning and guiding them to safety, collecting loot and weapons, and escaping through routes that may vary between matches. Eliminated civilians can return in supporting roles such as a Sheriff’s Deputy or Dr. Loomis, according to the developer’s overview. These are developer descriptions of intended mechanics, not independent performance or balance findings. Read the multiplayer overview.
Dead by Daylight: hunt or cooperate to survive
One player takes the Killer role while four others play as cooperative Survivors. The official game page describes earning Bloodpoints and spending them in the Bloodweb on perks, add-ons, and offerings. It currently lists more than 15 maps; the roster changes over time. See the official game page.

Can you play Halloween: The Game solo?
Yes. The launch announcement lists a standalone single-player story mode as Michael Myers, and the US PlayStation Store listing marks online play as optional and lists one player. That makes it the clearer choice if you specifically want a Michael Myers experience without depending on multiplayer. The available information establishes a story mode, not its length or how it compares with a full-length narrative campaign.
What content does Halloween: The Game include?
The September 8, 2026 digital launch announcement lists a Michael Myers story, 1v4 multiplayer, four multiplayer maps, ten playable civilian characters, hundreds of unlockable cosmetic items, civilian perk-card decks, and unlockable Michael skins, weapons, executions, and abilities. Digital Deluxe includes two additional playable civilians, Richard and Alexis. Digital Deluxe purchasers had early access beginning September 4, 2026. See the launch details.

It is a new release, and the latest official patch notes available on October 7, 2026 are version 1.1.0, dated October 6. IllFonic says the update addresses crashes, PC and console optimization, stability, balance, match pacing, Story Mode challenges, and NPC behavior. Those notes describe intended changes; they do not independently demonstrate performance or establish that every issue is resolved. Version 1.1.0 patch notes.
Can new players still get Michael Myers in Dead by Daylight?
No—not through the licensed Halloween chapter. Behaviour made The Shape (Michael Myers), Laurie Strode, and related Halloween content unavailable to unlock after January 19, 2026. People who owned the characters or cosmetics before removal retain access, while the Haddonfield map left rotation. Some perks formerly associated with those characters moved into the general pool under new names for players who did not own them. The change affects the Halloween license, not the ability to play Dead by Daylight itself. Behaviour’s removal announcement; Halloween-content FAQ.

Which should you play first?
- Choose Halloween: The Game for a Michael Myers-centered solo story, or if the idea of stalking and rescuing residents across Haddonfield is the draw.
- Choose Dead by Daylight for the one-Killer/four-Survivors format, cooperative Survivor role, Bloodweb progression, and a map roster the official page lists at more than 15.
- Do not buy Dead by Daylight expecting to unlock its Halloween chapter as a new player: that content was removed from unlock on January 19, 2026.
There is no established comparable current figure for player population, queue times, or independent cross-platform performance, so those are not reliable grounds for declaring one the better buy.
