Halo: Campaign Evolved, the new game originally announced for release in 2026, launched on July 28, 2026. It is a ground-up remake of the campaign from Halo: Combat Evolved. Separately, Xbox said in September that Activision will develop the next Halo title, but gave no release date for that project.
What is the new Halo game?
Halo: Campaign Evolved remakes the campaign of Halo: Combat Evolved, returning Master Chief to the ringworld after the Pillar of Autumn crash-lands there. Cortana and the Covenant are central to the story. Halo Studios describes the remake as having refreshed visuals and controls, enhanced cinematics and audio, additional weapons and vehicles, and gameplay-modifying Skulls. It also adds three prequel missions. Halo Studios’ announcement called it a “ground-up remake” of the original campaign.
The release details list 13 campaign missions in total. The new prequel missions expand the story; they do not make this a newly announced sequel or a separate next-generation installment.
When did Halo: Campaign Evolved release?
The global launch was July 28, 2026, at 8:00 a.m. PDT. Japan and select Asia-Pacific markets reached the release date on July 29. Early access began July 23 at 8:00 a.m. PDT, or July 24 in those named Asia-Pacific markets. That early-access window was an offer tied to the Digital Premium and Collector’s Editions, not the standard global launch date. Which platforms can you play it on?
Halo: Campaign Evolved launched for Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5, and PC via Steam. Xbox’s release information also describes Xbox on PC, Xbox Cloud Gaming, Xbox Play Anywhere, and day-one availability in Game Pass Ultimate and PC Game Pass. Those access routes and benefits are platform- and subscription-specific; check the current Xbox and store listings for terms that apply to your account and region. What are the co-op options?
The campaign supports up to four players in cross-platform network co-op. On consoles, it also supports two-player split-screen. These are distinct ways to play: the four-player option is online and cross-platform, while split-screen is a console feature. Halo Studios announced these features in its game overview and reiterated them in the release details.

What is included in the Collector’s Edition?
Halo Studios’ 2026 edition details list a SteelBook, a 12-inch Master Chief statue by Dark Horse, an LED replica of Cortana’s data chip, three 11-by-17-inch concept-art prints, and a physical manual. The Xbox Series X|S and PS5 Collector’s Editions include a game disc; the Steam edition uses a voucher code. Halo Studios described supply as limited and listed regional availability, but that announcement does not establish current stock. No. In a September 22, 2026 update, Xbox said Activision “will also be developing the next Halo title,” with a new purpose-built team separate from ongoing Call of Duty development and plans. The update does not name that game, its platforms, or its release date. It also says a small Halo Studios team will continue supporting the Halo community and games already in market. This is a separate future project, not Campaign Evolved, which had already launched. Xbox Wire’s September update provides the announcement.

In an Xbox Wire interview about the remake, Halo Studios Executive Producer Damon Conn said it lets new players “understand the story from the very beginning.” That explains why the studio chose to revisit the first campaign; it does not supply a date or details for the separate Activision-led title.
