No—Halo Infinite isn’t still waiting to add Search & Destroy. Its Halo-style take on the tactical objective format, officially called S&D Extraction (Seek & Deploy), has already launched. The rules blend alternating offense and defense with two extraction sites, a round-by-round purchase economy and a chance to buy back into a round after death. Whether it is in matchmaking right now is a separate question: playlists rotate, so check the current in-game listing.
What is S&D Extraction in Halo Infinite?
S&D Extraction is a tactical, round-based mode with teams taking turns on offense and defense. The attacking team tries to plant an Extraction device at one of two sites; the defenders try to stop the plant, eliminate the attackers or disarm the device after it is planted. Unlike a mode built around one designated bomb carrier, any attacker can plant.
The mode uses Halo Infinite’s familiar movement, shields, weapon damage and traits, but its objective and economy give each round a different tactical rhythm. The name expands to “Seek & Deploy.”
How do rounds, plants and disarms work?
Round and match structure
The Operation: Reclaimer overview describes S&D Extraction as 4v4, with 90 seconds per round. Matches are best of 11: the first team to win six rounds takes the match. Teams alternate between offense and defense.

How each side can win a round
- Offense: Plant the Extraction device at either site and complete the objective, or eliminate the defenders.
- Defense: Prevent the attackers from planting, eliminate the attacking team, or disarm a planted device.
If the attackers plant, defenders have 60 seconds to disarm the device or eliminate the remaining attackers. The Operation overview says a round also ends for a side when the opposing team is eliminated.
How the points economy and buy-backs work
Players start each round with the Bandit Evo. A 30-second purchase window at the start of the round lets players spend points earned earlier in the match on stronger weapons and equipment. Kills, extractions and disarms earn points, so a team’s decisions can affect what it can afford in later rounds.

A player who has enough points can buy back into the round after dying. Halo’s launch explainer says a bought-back player returns with the Bandit Evo and cannot make another purchase that round. The motion tracker is disabled, making information and positioning especially important.
Can you play S&D Extraction in Ranked or Social?
Halo announced both Ranked and Social/Unranked versions. In the Operation: Reclaimer announcement, Ranked access required 50 completed Halo Infinite matches; Social had no minimum-match requirement and disabled friendly fire. Those are access details from the mode’s announcement, not a promise that either playlist is currently available.

Playlist availability changes. Halo Support’s playlist page was updated August 25, 2026, and says playlists update Tuesdays at 11 a.m. PT. That dated snapshot cannot establish what is playable on October 8, 2026. Check Halo Infinite’s in-game multiplayer playlist list or the latest official playlist listing before queueing.
How Forge and community creators shaped the mode
Halo’s launch article says S&D Extraction was scripted entirely in Forge, with Halo Studios hiring community creator Artifice to bring the design to life. It launched with six purpose-built maps: MikRips created Hangar 18, while the other five were selected from finalists in a Forgehub S&D Extraction contest that received more than 50 map submissions.

The name signals a tactical, round-based format, but S&D Extraction has its own rules: two plant sites, a 90-second round, a six-round match target, an inter-round economy and buy-backs. It is more useful to learn those Halo-specific mechanics than to assume every rule from another game’s Search & Destroy mode carries over.
