Halo: Reach first launched worldwide on Xbox 360 on September 14, 2010, with Japan’s launch following on September 15. It arrived on PC much later, as part of Halo: The Master Chief Collection, on December 3, 2019. The 2019 date is the PC and collection release—not the original game’s debut.

When did Halo: Reach come out?

Microsoft announced a worldwide launch beginning September 14, 2010, and a Japan launch on September 15. The original release was for Xbox 360. Microsoft’s May 24, 2010 announcement identified Bungie as the developer and Microsoft Game Studios as publisher.

When did Halo: Reach release on PC?

Halo: Reach became available on PC on December 3, 2019, through Halo: The Master Chief Collection. Xbox listed Windows 10 PC, Microsoft Store, and Steam for the launch. It was not originally released for PC in 2010; the PC version was part of the later collection rollout. Xbox announced the plan to bring the collection to PC and begin with Reach on March 12, 2019, then confirmed availability on December 3, 2019.

Which platforms and versions are involved?

Version Platform Release date What the distinction means
Original game Xbox 360 September 14, 2010 worldwide; September 15 in Japan The original standalone release, developed by Bungie and published by Microsoft Game Studios.
Halo: The Master Chief Collection version Xbox One December 3, 2019 Reach was added to the collection; this is separate from the original Xbox 360 release.
Halo: The Master Chief Collection version Windows 10 PC, Microsoft Store and Steam December 3, 2019 The later PC release, distributed as part of the collection.

Xbox’s 2019 launch announcement also listed Game Pass access at launch. That is historical launch information, not confirmation of current catalog inclusion or subscription terms.

Is Halo: Reach on Xbox One?

Yes: the Xbox One version arrived through Halo: The Master Chief Collection on December 3, 2019. Xbox’s launch coverage said existing Xbox One collection owners could get the campaign and Firefight as a premium add-on, while multiplayer components, Forge, and Theater were included in the base collection update. Those are the arrangements reported at launch, not a statement of today’s price or purchase terms.

What were the original editions?

Microsoft’s 2010 launch coverage named three retail editions: Standard, Limited, and Legendary. The Legendary edition included a Noble Team statue, according to the September 13, 2010 launch coverage. These are historical edition details; they do not establish current stock, condition, or resale prices.

What should you check before buying?

  • For the original Xbox 360 release: look specifically for the Xbox 360 game. It is not the PC version.
  • For PC: look for Halo: Reach within Halo: The Master Chief Collection on a supported PC storefront, rather than expecting a standalone 2010 PC release.
  • For Xbox One: distinguish the collection version and any current access or purchase requirements from Microsoft’s historical 2019 launch terms.
  • For a physical or collectible copy: check the edition, platform, included items, condition, and seller’s description. The original edition names alone do not establish that extras are present.

Current storefront listings, subscription inclusion, and prices can change; confirm those details with the relevant store before purchasing.

How did the PC version fit into the collection?

In March 2019, Xbox said the PC release of The Master Chief Collection would begin with Reach, with other collection titles to follow over time. This explains why the dates and platform descriptions can be confusing: the original Xbox 360 game debuted in 2010, while the PC release was a later MCC release in 2019. Microsoft’s March 12, 2019 announcement described that staged PC plan.
