Halo Waypoint says the story is written and much of the editorial work is complete. The book is currently slated for March 2027, but that date is explicitly subject to change. Xbox’s restructuring announcement does not confirm a rumored Halo lore reboot under Activision.
What Halo Studios has said about the novel
In an added historian’s note to Halo Waypoint’s Canon Fodder: Heart and Soell, Halo Studios answered readers asking whether Fireteam Noble would still be released. The note says: “To this we can say that it is absolutely our intent to see this project cross the finish line.” It adds that Troy Denning “has written a fantastic story and a good chunk of the editorial process has been conducted.”

That is a clear statement of intent, not a guarantee that the book will ship on a particular date. The note says its author will do what they can to help the project reach completion, but does not identify that person by name. Halo Waypoint also explains that the original issue predated the studio news and that the commentary was added afterward.
What the book is and when it is currently expected
Halo’s official Fireteam Noble announcement identifies it as the next Halo novel by Denning. Its story follows Jun-A266, returning to operations for a rescue mission after a renowned xenoarcheologist is abducted by the Banished.

What the Xbox restructuring confirms—and what it does not
On September 22, 2026, Xbox announced that it was eliminating 268 roles across Halo Studios, other first-party studios, and Xbox Game Studios management and central functions. The figure covers those areas collectively; Xbox did not describe all 268 as Halo Studios employees.
In the same Xbox Wire announcement, Xbox said Activision would develop the next Halo title with a new purpose-built team separate from its Call of Duty plans. A small Halo Studios team would continue supporting the community and games already in market. Those are significant organizational changes, but the announcement does not say that Activision is rebooting Halo’s lore, nor does it say that Fireteam Noble has been canceled or superseded.

- Disc only. Original case and manual not included. Will come packaged in a generic case.
- This renewed game has been cleaned, tested, and shows minimal wear.
The available official statements therefore support a narrow conclusion: Halo Studios says it intends to complete this novel, while the Xbox restructuring announcement does not establish whether the next game will retain every element of current continuity. It would be inaccurate to present a lore reboot as confirmed—or to claim that the novel proves continuity will remain unchanged.

Other Halo fiction discussed by Halo Waypoint
The same Canon Fodder post discusses additional fiction, but its language signals different levels of certainty. These plans should not be treated as equivalent to a scheduled book release.
| Project | Format and status stated by Halo Waypoint | Timing stated |
|---|---|---|
| Halo: Fireteam Noble | Novel by Troy Denning; Halo Studios says it intends to finish it, and the separate official listing gives a provisional date. | March 2027, subject to change. |
| Halo: Burn the Road Home | Announced novella by Kenneth Peters. The post describes Marshal Imani Havel and unrest on Criterion in 2560; a historian’s note says the studio is determined to complete it. | “Next year” relative to the post; no more specific date is established here. |
| Waypoint Chronicles stories | Additional online stories were described as underway, with weekly releases planned. A Volume Two print anthology, ebook, and audiobook are expressed as hopes, not firm commitments. | Online releases were planned for November to December; later anthology formats were hoped for in 2027. |
The distinctions matter: a provisional date, an expressed intention, a release plan, and a hoped-for format are not interchangeable promises. Halo Waypoint’s article is the source for these project descriptions and timing; it does not establish that every format or plan will proceed as described.
