Choose Fujifilm’s GFX100 II if you also need video, faster bursts, or broader subject detection. Both offer roughly 100MP; the better fit depends more on what and how you shoot, the lenses you need, and your flash and video workflow than on megapixels alone.
First, check which X2D you mean
“X2D” can refer to two different generations. Hasselblad’s current model is the X2D II 100C, announced in August 2025. The earlier X2D 100C is a separate camera, not just another name for the II.

The distinction matters when comparing autofocus and stabilization. Hasselblad’s specifications for the original X2D 100C list 294 PDAF zones and 7-stop, 5-axis IBIS. The X2D II adds continuous autofocus (AF-C), a revised HDR still workflow, and a newer stabilization rating. Make sure any listing or comparison you consult identifies the generation explicitly.
How the cameras compare at a glance
| Feature | Hasselblad X2D II 100C | Fujifilm GFX100 II |
|---|---|---|
| Resolution | 100MP, according to Hasselblad | 102MP, according to Fujifilm |
| Video | No video recording mode, according to DPReview | Includes 8K and 4K video modes, including 4K up to 60p, according to DPReview |
| Maximum burst rate | 3 fps, according to DPReview | Up to 8 fps with the mechanical shutter, according to Fujifilm |
| Stabilization rating | Hasselblad rates it at 10 stops at image center and 8 at the edges under specified CIPA conditions with the XCD 3.5/120 Macro lens; location synchronization through Phocus is relevant to maximum performance | Up to 8 stops, according to Fujifilm |
| Flash synchronization | Compatible XCD lenses have leaf shutters that allow high-speed flash synchronization; the usable speed depends on the lens and setup | DPReview cites 1/125 sec synchronization with the focal-plane shutter |
| Internal storage | 1TB SSD and a CFexpress Type B slot, according to Hasselblad | Not stated in the cited specifications |
These figures come from different sources and testing or rating conditions, so they are not all directly comparable measurements. In particular, the X2D II’s stabilization number is not a promise of the same result with every lens or in every shooting situation.

Choose the X2D II for a stills-centered workflow
When Hasselblad’s HDR still workflow is useful
The X2D II’s headline distinction is not a resolution advantage over Fujifilm; it is how Hasselblad has built the camera around stills. Hasselblad names its color system HNCS HDR and describes HDR HEIF and Ultra HDR JPEG output, alongside 16-bit color depth, native ISO 50, and 15.3 stops of dynamic range. Those are manufacturer specifications and claims, not independent lab findings.
If you want HDR still files to be part of capture and review rather than relying entirely on a later computer workflow, those features may make the X2D II appealing. Hasselblad describes it as the first medium-format camera to support end-to-end HDR; treat that as the company’s claim, not an independently established category-wide finding.

When leaf-shutter flash synchronization matters
Compatible XCD lenses use leaf shutters, which can synchronize flash at higher shutter speeds than the GFX100 II’s focal-plane shutter. This can be valuable for portraits outdoors: a photographer can balance ambient light and flash without being constrained to the GFX camera’s cited 1/125 sec synchronization speed. The practical benefit depends on the lens, flash system, and lighting conditions, and compatible lenses are a separate part of the system cost.

AF-C is new to the X2D line with the X2D II. Hasselblad lists 425 PDAF zones and LiDAR-assisted focusing. DPReview reported AF-C support with seven faster-focusing XCD lenses at the time of its comparison, so do not assume every XCD lens supports the feature; check the current compatibility information for the lens you plan to use.

Hasselblad rates the X2D II at 10 stops of stabilization at image center and 8 stops at the edges, measured under CIPA standards with the XCD 3.5/120 Macro lens. Hasselblad also says location synchronization through Phocus is relevant to achieving maximum performance. The rating should therefore be read as a qualified manufacturer figure, not as a guaranteed handheld exposure advantage with every lens.
Choose the GFX100 II for video, bursts, or subject recognition
Video is the clearest dividing line
The X2D II has no video recording mode, according to DPReview. The GFX100 II offers video options that include 8K and 4K up to 60p. DPReview cautions that rolling-shutter performance can be poor in the highest-resolution modes, which may matter when panning quickly or filming subjects moving across the frame. If video is a regular part of your work, the GFX100 II is the more suitable of these two bodies.

Faster sequences and broader subject detection
Fujifilm specifies up to 8 fps with the GFX100 II’s mechanical shutter, compared with the 3 fps DPReview lists for the X2D II. Fujifilm also describes AI-based subject detection for people, animals, birds, vehicles, and transport categories. That combination makes the GFX100 II the stronger fit if you want more frames per second or recognition across a broad range of moving subjects. Neither specification alone guarantees successful action photography; lens autofocus, subject behavior, and shooting technique still matter.
Consider the GFX100S II if you want another 102MP option
The Fujifilm GFX100S II is a related alternative for photographers considering the X2D II’s stills-focused audience. DPReview lists a 102MP, 44 × 33 mm sensor, 7 fps burst rate, and 8-stop IBIS for the GFX100S II. It can be worth considering if you are set on the GFX system but do not need the GFX100 II’s particular feature set.

Its launch-era price figures are not consistent across the cited sources: DPReview lists a historical $5,499 MSRP, while Fujifilm’s 2024 launch release gave an expected MSRP of $4,995.95. Neither figure establishes a current local selling price. Check current pricing and availability where you live before comparing the GFX100S II’s value with either camera.
Compare systems, not just camera bodies
A body price cannot tell you which system will cost less for your photography. Start with the focal lengths you actually need, then compare compatible lenses, flash requirements, storage, and any video accessories. A Hasselblad leaf-shutter lens may offer a flash-synchronization capability that changes what you can do on location, while the lens itself is a separate expense.
For a sense of the potential system commitment, Hasselblad’s August 2025 launch release listed the XCD 2.8–4/35–100E zoom lens at $4,599. That is a historical launch price, not a current quote. The Hasselblad product page displayed the X2D II 100C body at $7,799 when checked; the August 2025 launch release had stated $7,399. Prices can vary by market and change over time, so confirm current body and lens prices rather than treating either figure as a guaranteed offer.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsWhich one should you buy?
- Choose the X2D II 100C if you mainly make still photographs and value Hasselblad’s HDR still workflow, its 1TB internal SSD, or high-speed flash synchronization with compatible XCD leaf-shutter lenses.
- Choose the GFX100 II if you need video, want a faster maximum mechanical burst, or value Fujifilm’s broad subject-detection categories.
- Consider the GFX100S II if you want a 102MP GFX body and its listed specifications suit you; compare current local prices rather than relying on historical MSRP figures.
For any of them, make the final comparison with the lenses and accessories you would actually buy. There is no universal winner on the evidence here: the X2D II is the more clearly stills-specialized choice, while the GFX100 II covers more kinds of shooting.
