Haunted by Daylight 2026 is not a separate Void map. It is a temporary Halloween rules layer applied inside ordinary Dead by Daylight Trials. The normal generators, hooks, chases, escapes and sacrifices still define the match, while Void Portals, roaming Void Haunts, Void Energy and role-specific event abilities add another tactical system.
The biggest practical differences are map rotation, extra chase pressure and resource management. Survivors begin with Void Crystals and can use them for Smoke Bombs or remote generator repair; Killers can launch Void Haunts and perform faster Empowered Breaks. The old explorable Void Tile has been removed from the current version.

Haunted by Daylight and a regular Trial: the short version
A regular Trial gives both teams the standard map, objectives and character powers. Haunted by Daylight keeps that foundation but adds a seasonal layer that changes how players move, gather resources and create pressure.

| System | Regular Trial | Haunted by Daylight 2026 |
|---|---|---|
| Map movement | Normal map layout and traversal | Paired Void Portals provide teleport routes; additional pairs can be opened through Void Rifts and remain available for the rest of the Trial |
| Additional threats | No event hazard beyond the normal Killer, power and perks | Void Haunts roam the map, seek Survivors and can create Hindered effects |
| Seasonal resource | No Void Energy loop | Both roles collect Void Energy through event interactions and ordinary Trial actions, then spend it on event abilities |
| Survivor tools | Character, item and perk loadout | Survivors start with Void Crystals for Smoke Bombs or remote generator repair |
| Killer tools | Character power, perks and normal interactions | Killers can launch Void Haunts and use Empowered Breaks to destroy objects faster |
| Progression | Normal Trial and account progression | Normal progression plus event Tome challenges, Halloween cosmetics and time-limited login rewards when offered |
The event changes decision-making rather than replacing the game. You still repair generators, protect or rescue teammates, chase, hook and escape under the normal Trial framework. The event systems create extra routes, interruptions and timing choices around those objectives.

How the 2026 event layer works
Void Portals create permanent paired routes
Void Portals appear in Trials as paired teleport points. A pair gives players a route that does not exist on the ordinary map, allowing a fast rotation between two locations. The practical value depends on where the pair is placed: a portal near a generator can shorten a rotation, while one near a strong chase area can change how a Survivor escapes or how a Killer cuts off a route.
Players can open additional portal pairs by opening Void Rifts. Once a pair has been opened, it remains available for the rest of that Trial. This persistence matters because the portal network becomes more important as the match progresses instead of resetting after one use.
Portals are not simply free safety. A Survivor who uses one may reveal a predictable destination, and a Killer can use the same network to intercept, patrol or arrive at an objective faster than the normal map path allows. Treat a portal as a contested route rather than an automatic escape button.
Void Haunts add a roaming hazard
Void Haunts roam the map and seek Survivors. They are an event threat layered on top of the Killer’s normal power. Their presence can interrupt an otherwise safe rotation and creates another reason to watch the environment while repairing, healing or moving between objectives.
Haunts can apply Hindered effects, so an encounter may reduce a Survivor’s movement speed at the moment a chase is beginning or a dangerous area is being crossed. The event notes do not establish a universal duration or a fixed strength for that effect; its exact impact depends on the current event implementation and the situation in the Trial.
Void Energy is the shared event resource
Both Survivors and Killers can collect Void Energy. The event awards energy through event interactions as well as ordinary Trial actions, creating a second progression loop alongside generators, hooks and chases. The precise list of qualifying actions is not exhaustively specified in the current notes, so do not assume that every individual action grants the same amount.
Energy is useful only when converted into event abilities. The current version removes the old requirement to travel to the Void and craft there: abilities unlock as soon as the player has collected enough energy. That makes energy a live timing decision. Holding it does not unlock anything beyond the threshold, while spending an ability at the wrong moment can waste an opportunity that would have changed a chase or objective contest.
What Survivors gain during Haunted by Daylight
Void Crystals are available from the start
Survivors begin the event with Void Crystals. The 2026 system no longer asks Survivors to enter a separate Void space and craft a crystal after depositing energy. Instead, the event gives access to the crystal-based options as the player’s event progress unlocks them.
A crystal can be used to make a Smoke Bomb or placed on a Generator for remote repair. These are different kinds of value:
- Smoke Bomb: creates a temporary concealment or disruption option for a chase, rescue, rotation or escape attempt. The current event description does not state its exact radius, duration or visibility rules, so those values should be checked in the in-game event description.
- Remote generator repair: allows a crystal to be placed on a Generator so repair can occur remotely. This can let a Survivor contribute while positioned away from the machine, but the event material does not specify the exact repair rate, duration, interruption rules or whether the Killer receives a special notification.
Because both options use the same event economy, the choice is situational. A team trying to finish a nearly completed Generator may value remote repair, while a Survivor being pressured through a dangerous tile may gain more from a Smoke Bomb. Do not spend a crystal automatically when the event ability first becomes available; first identify the immediate objective.
Survivor resource priorities
- Collect energy without abandoning the Trial objective. Ordinary Trial actions can also contribute to the event loop, so gathering should be integrated into repairs, rescues and rotations rather than treated as a separate sightseeing task.
- Open a Void Rift when the route will matter. A portal pair remains for the entire Trial, making placement more valuable near objectives or transition points that the team will revisit.
- Choose the ability that solves the next problem. Use a Smoke Bomb for immediate chase or rescue pressure; use remote repair when distance from the Generator is strategically useful.
- Re-evaluate after each major event. A new portal pair or a roaming Haunt can change the safest route, so a plan that worked early may be unsafe after the map network expands.
What Killers gain during Haunted by Daylight
Launching Void Haunts
Killers can launch Void Haunts. This gives the Killer an event-based way to add pressure outside the normal character power. A Haunt can force a Survivor to change direction, interrupt a comfortable repair position or create a Hindered opportunity before the Killer commits to a chase.

Empowered Breaks speed up object destruction
Killers can perform Empowered Breaks to destroy objects faster. This is particularly relevant when a pallet, breakable wall or another destructible object would otherwise buy a Survivor time. The exact bonus and eligible object list are not stated in the available current notes, so the in-game ability text is authoritative for those details.
The strategic choice is whether to use an Empowered Break immediately or preserve event resources for a more important chase. A faster break is most valuable when removing an object changes the route for a future chase, not merely when a normal break would be completed safely without losing pressure.
Using the portal network as Killer
Void Portals can shorten patrol routes and create interception angles. When Survivors open more Void Rifts, the Killer also gains more possible arrival points. That does not mean every portal should be used on cooldown: appearing at an unproductive location can cost more pressure than walking to a nearby objective.
The Tool Desk
Outbyte Driver Updater FREEFix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Outbyte PC Repair FREERepair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Watch for repeated Survivor behavior. If a team uses one portal to rotate from a completed Generator to a safer area, the destination becomes a predictable place to check. Conversely, a portal near an active chase can be used to cut off the route instead of following the Survivor’s exact path.
How the map and chase game changes
Map control is less linear
Regular Trials are governed by the map’s fixed connections. Haunted by Daylight adds a paired teleport network that can connect areas which would normally require a long rotation. Opening a Rift early can improve access to a weak side of the map, but it also gives both teams a route they can exploit.
For Survivors, a portal is a rotation tool and a possible escape line. For Killers, it is a patrol and interception tool. The same pair therefore has opposing value: a route that saves a Survivor’s time can also let the Killer arrive sooner.
Chases include a third-party hazard
A normal chase is primarily a contest between the Survivor’s pathing, the Killer’s power, perks and the available map resources. A roaming Void Haunt introduces another variable. A Survivor can be Hindered while trying to reach a pallet or window, while a Killer may use the disruption to force a shorter route.

Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
This makes environmental awareness more important. Listen and look for event threats while crossing the map instead of focusing only on the Killer’s last known position. A route that is strong in a regular Trial may be less reliable if a Haunt can interfere before the Survivor reaches its safety point.
Information becomes harder to interpret
In a regular Trial, a missing Survivor at an objective usually suggests a rotation, a rescue, a heal or a chase. During Haunted by Daylight, a portal and an event interaction can explain the same disappearance. Killers should avoid assuming that a completed objective means the team followed the ordinary path; Survivors can use the event network to arrive from unexpected directions.
What does not change
The current event notes describe Haunted by Daylight systems inside Trials. The normal generator, hook, chase, escape and sacrifice framework remains the match context. The event does not turn the match into a separately documented replacement ruleset with a different win condition.
- Survivors still need to advance the generator objective and escape through the normal endgame structure.
- Killers still create pressure through chases, downs, hooks and their character power.
- Perks, items, add-ons and character abilities remain relevant alongside the event tools.
- Void Energy supplements the Trial; it does not become the sole objective.
That distinction is the reason the event feels different without being a new game mode in the older Void-Realm sense.

| Feature | Older 2024 description | 2026 implementation |
|---|---|---|
| Separate Void area | An explorable Void Realm with no Generators, but with Hooks, Pallets, Breakable Walls, Lockers and Chests | The previous Void Tile is no longer accessible; the current event keeps Void systems in Trials |
| Killer detection in the Void | Killers had no Terror Radius in the Void | Not applicable to the removed Void Tile; current notes instead describe Portals and Haunts in Trials |
| Survivor status in the Void | Injured Survivors became Exhausted and Broken there | Those historical Void-Realm rules are not the current event structure |
| Ability acquisition | Players deposited Void Energy into a Void Well to craft a Void Crystal or Captured Haunt | Players no longer need to craft in the Void; abilities unlock after collecting enough energy |
| Movement system | Focused on entering and exploring the Void Realm | Paired Void Portals and newly opened portal pairs alter movement inside the Trial |
The 2026 patch notes explicitly state that the Void Tile from previous years is no longer accessible, while Void Portals and Void Haunts are present in all Trials. Any guide that tells you to enter a large separate Void space is describing an older event version.

What the event can add
Official event coverage describes Event Tome challenges, Halloween cosmetics and time-limited login rewards. These are layered onto the ordinary Trial experience and give players reasons to complete event objectives even when they are not trying to maximize a single match’s outcome.
Reward availability is date-specific. A 2025 guide listed Bloodpoints, Iridescent Shards and Dark Trinkets among daily rewards during the October 14–November 4, 2025 event period. Those dates and that reward list should not be treated as confirmation of 2026 availability. Check the current in-game event panel for the active calendar.

An earlier 2022 event guide described a Halloween cosmetic for depositing 30 Void Energy in one Trial. That figure belongs to the older event and should not be used as a 2026 target unless the current event interface independently displays the same requirement.
Should you play Haunted by Daylight or regular Trials?
Choose the event rules when you want seasonal progression and are comfortable adding another layer of map and resource decisions. Choose regular Trials when you want the unmodified map flow, standard routing and practice that excludes event interactions.
| Your priority | Better fit | Reason |
|---|---|---|
| Event Tome challenges or Halloween rewards | Haunted by Daylight | Event progression and seasonal rewards are available there when active |
| Learning a map’s ordinary rotations | Regular Trials | No portal network or roaming Haunts changes the route |
| Practicing chase fundamentals without seasonal interference | Regular Trials | The extra Hindered hazard and event abilities are absent |
| Trying new Survivor utility | Haunted by Daylight | Void Crystals add Smoke Bomb and remote-repair decisions |
| Practicing Killer patrol and object-breaking pressure | Haunted by Daylight | Portals, launched Haunts and Empowered Breaks create additional decisions |
| Comparing win rate, queue time or Bloodpoint efficiency | Neither can be declared superior from published evidence | No current official source provides a numerical comparison for those measures |
If an event queue is shown in the matchmaking interface, remember that the event rules are still described as systems inside Trials. The practical question is not whether the core game disappears, but whether you want the seasonal systems active in your match.
A practical Survivor plan
- Read the event panel before loading in. Confirm which abilities are available and what the current interface says about energy thresholds, because exact values can change between event updates.
- Use ordinary objectives to build event progress. Gather Void Energy while repairing, rescuing, healing or rotating when possible instead of abandoning a safe objective solely to search for event interactions.
- Open a Rift with a reason. Favor a pair that connects active generators, a likely rescue route or a side of the map the team will revisit.
- Keep the portal destination in your mental map. A teleport route is useful only if you know where it exits and whether a Haunt or the Killer can contest it.
- Spend the crystal on the next decision. Smoke Bombs are for immediate disruption; remote repair is for contributing from a safer or more useful position.
- Do not run blindly through an event hazard. A Hindered effect can turn a normal transition into a losing chase, so reroute when a Haunt controls the shortest line.
A practical Killer plan
- Open the first useful portal route. Prioritize a pair that improves access between generators or cuts across a common Survivor rotation.
- Use Haunts to create movement, not just damage expectations. Launch one where it can force a Survivor away from safety or expose the direction of a rotation.
- Exploit Hindered moments. If a Haunt slows a Survivor near a pallet, window or objective, commit only when the resulting route improves your chance of a down.
- Reserve Empowered Breaks for meaningful objects. The faster destruction matters most when it changes repeated chase paths or protects a high-value generator.
- Track portal habits. Survivors often favor the same pair to rotate after an objective. Check the destination when the timing suggests a teleport rather than assuming they took the conventional route.
- Do not let the event replace your win condition. Hooks and pressure remain the basis of the Trial; event tools are there to improve those actions.
Common mistakes and how to avoid them
Following an old Void-Realm guide
If a guide tells you to enter a large Void Tile, deposit energy in a Void Well or rely on the old Void-only status rules, it is describing an earlier version. In 2026, the Void Tile is inaccessible and abilities unlock without crafting in the Void.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsTreating every portal as safe
A portal is shared infrastructure. The Killer can use the route too, and the destination may be watched. Use it to solve a specific rotation problem rather than teleporting merely because the option exists.
Chasing energy instead of winning the Trial
Void Energy is valuable, but it does not replace generators, rescues, chases or hooks. Integrate event actions with the objective and leave when the event interaction would expose you to a losing exchange.
Assuming historical numbers still apply
Past dates, reward lists and thresholds are not automatically repeated. The 2025 October 14–November 4 schedule and the historical 30-energy cosmetic threshold are examples of information that must remain tied to their original event.
Expecting published efficiency statistics
No current official source establishes a win-rate, queue-time or Bloodpoint-efficiency advantage for Haunted by Daylight over regular Trials. Select the mode for its mechanics and rewards, not for an unsupported numerical promise.
Bottom line
Haunted by Daylight 2026 changes a normal Trial through a persistent portal network, roaming Void Haunts, shared Void Energy and role-specific abilities. Survivors gain Void Crystal options; Killers gain launched Haunts and faster Empowered Breaks. The old separate Void Tile is gone, and the normal Trial objective remains in force. Play the event for its seasonal tools and progression; play regular Trials when you want the unmodified map and chase experience.
