The first lowers the flooded basin partway; using the second drains it so you can reach and activate the Abyss Cresset. Follow the on-screen ability prompt and your platform’s control mapping—the guides describe the interaction with different terms.
Where to find Haunted Hill Ruins
The ruins are in the Haunted Hill area of Hernand. Use the in-game map to orient yourself: Game8 places them east of the Haunted Hill Abyss Nexus, while PowerPyx describes them as east of the Sanctum of Atonement, near the river leading to Three Saints’ Falls. These are nearby landmarks rather than precise coordinates.

How to drain the flooded basin
- Find the first mechanism. Look for the spinning water-control part in the flooded ruins. If you need to learn the relevant ability, PowerPyx points to a nearby hologram that teaches Nature’s Snare.
- Use the ability or interaction shown on screen. PowerPyx describes applying Nature’s Snare to the mechanism; Game8 describes using Focus on the underwater mechanism. The guides differ in wording, so use the prompt and control mapping displayed for your platform rather than relying on one universal button sequence.
- Wait for the water level to drop, then locate the second mechanism. The first mechanism only partially lowers the water. The second is easier to reach after that change and may have been partly submerged before.
- Operate the second mechanism until the basin drains. Keep following the on-screen prompt and rotating or channeling the ability as indicated. The puzzle is complete when the Abyss Cresset is accessible.
- Interact with the Abyss Cresset. Game8 says activating it awards an Abyss Artifact and turns on a fast-travel point.
GameSpot’s ancient ruins puzzle guide also describes the solution as activating two mechanisms, with the second partly submerged, and refers to casting Nature’s Snare with a rotating motion.

If the water does not drain
- Only part of the basin has lowered: Return to the area exposed by the first mechanism and look for the second water-control part.
- You cannot activate a mechanism: Check for its on-screen ability prompt and use your platform’s displayed controls. The walkthroughs do not describe the input identically.
- You are unsure which ability to use: Look for the nearby hologram described by PowerPyx, then follow the prompt at the mechanism. Game8 calls the interaction Focus, while PowerPyx and GameSpot describe Nature’s Snare.
