Heartworm is a compact psychological survival-horror game that pairs retro fixed-camera presentation with flexible controls and a camera-based combat twist. Developed by Vincent Adinolfi and published by DreadXP, it follows a grieving woman drawn to a remote house rumored to connect to the afterlife.

You play as Sam, who is grieving the deaths of people close to her. An online lead sends her toward an isolated house said to be connected to the afterlife, where her search for contact with the dead becomes the game’s central mystery. Heartworm draws on classic survival horror through cinematic fixed camera angles and deliberately low-resolution 3D visuals. Its controls also accommodate different preferences: the Steam description lists optional tank controls, alongside over-the-shoulder aiming. That means the game is not exclusively a fixed-camera, tank-control throwback.

The more unusual touch is the camera’s role in combat. Sam uses a camera as a weapon, giving limited encounters a distinctive tool and tying the mechanic to the game’s themes. Heartworm released on Steam on July 31, 2025, and the game is listed for purchase there. The official site also points to Steam availability. The sources confirming those details do not establish whether console editions are available or planned, so check the developer or publisher’s current announcements if you are waiting for a console release.

Steam’s minimum game requirements list Windows 7 (SP1+) or Windows 10, 8 GB of RAM, DirectX 10, and 8 GB of available storage. The listing also notes separately that the Steam client has supported Windows 10 and later since January 1, 2024.
