The currently documented, purchasable edition is the physical board game. An official digital adaptation by Mipmap Digital is listed on Steam with solo, online, local, asynchronous and cross-platform features, but its release date remains “To be announced.” If you want to play immediately, buy or borrow the tabletop edition; if you specifically need mobile or online play, wait for a confirmed launch and platform list rather than treating the Steam announcement as an available app.
Is Heat: Pedal to the Metal available on mobile?
No official iOS or Android release is confirmed. The researched official listings do not show a mobile storefront launch date, supported phone or tablet models, or an app that you can download today. Searches for “Heat Pedal to the Metal mobile” can therefore be misleading: they often refer to the board game, the announced digital adaptation, or general discussion rather than a released mobile version.

The digital product that is officially documented is a Steam adaptation from Mipmap Digital. Steam gives it a release date of “To be announced,” so it should be treated as an announced game, not as a currently playable substitute for the physical edition. Steam lists single-player, online player-versus-player, shared or split-screen play, cross-platform multiplayer, Remote Play Together, asynchronous multiplayer and local multiplayer features. Those are the advertised capabilities; they do not establish an iPhone or Android version, a launch date, performance on a particular device, or a final pricing model.
Quick verdict: which version should you choose?
| What you need | Better choice | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Play today at home or at a game night | Physical board game | It is the currently documented retail format and includes the boards, cars, cards and tokens needed to race. |
| Play with people in the same room without a screen | Physical board game | Everyone shares a table, manipulates components and manages their own hand and heat. |
| Play online or asynchronously | Digital adaptation, once released | Steam lists those modes, but the release is still unannounced and availability is not established. |
| Play on an iPhone or Android phone | Wait for an official mobile announcement | No official iOS or Android listing or release date is confirmed. |
| Play solo immediately | Physical game with the Legends Module | The publisher describes automated Legends drivers for solo play or additional opponents. |
The practical decision is therefore about timing and setting, not about two finished products with identical availability. The tabletop game is a known purchase. The digital version is a future option whose final platforms, date and price are not yet established.

What the physical game is
Heat: Pedal to the Metal is a racing game for one to six players, ages 10 and up, with an approximately 60-minute play time according to current Days of Wonder and Asmodee product descriptions. Each player runs a car around a track by shifting gears and playing cards. The design is deliberately about hand management, speed control and risk rather than real-time steering or reflexes.
Days of Wonder describes it as being “Based on simple and intuitive hand management” and says the system puts players “in the driver’s seat of intense car races.” That description matters when comparing it with a video game: the physical version is not trying to simulate a steering wheel, braking model or physics engine. Its tension comes from deciding how much speed to commit now, how much heat to accept, and when to preserve cards for a later corner.
How a race works
1. Shift before you play cards
At the start of each round, a player can shift gears. The chosen gear dictates how many cards that player plays during the round. A higher gear can produce a faster turn but gives less flexibility if the hand does not contain the right values; a lower gear gives a different card count and can help prepare for a difficult section of track. The rulebook summarizes the relationship directly: “At the start of each round you can shift gears, which dictates how many cards you play that round.”

Players reveal the required number of cards and use their values to determine movement. Because the hand is finite and cards cycle through draw and discard piles, every fast move affects future options. A turn that looks efficient on a straight can leave a player unable to hit a corner safely on the next round.
3. Respect each corner’s suggested speed
Corner spaces show a suggested speed. Exceeding that number creates overheating risk. The basic rules warn that if you exceed a corner’s suggested speed, the car starts to overheat. Heat cards and related effects are not cosmetic penalties: they occupy hand space and make future turns harder to control.

- SUPERIOR COMFORT — Unlike traditional circular ear buds, the design of EarPods is defined by the geometry of the ear. Which makes them more comfortable for more people than any other ear bud–style headphones.
- HIGH-QUALITY AUDIO — The speakers inside EarPods have been engineered to maximize sound output and minimize sound loss, which means you get high-quality audio.
- BUILT-IN REMOTE — EarPods with USB-C plug also include a built-in remote that lets you adjust the volume, control the playback of music and video, and answer or end calls with a pinch of the cord.
- COMPATIBILITY — Works with all devices that have a USB-C port.
- INTEGRATED MICROPHONE — A built-in microphone precisely captures your voice while you’re on the phone, taking a FaceTime call, or summoning Siri — so you’re always heard loud and clear.
4. Decide when to push and when to protect the car
The central risk-reward choice is whether a short-term gain is worth the heat and stress it creates. Pushing too hard can cause a spin-out, costing momentum or forcing an awkward recovery. A conservative line may surrender a place now but keep the hand clean for the next sequence of corners. The game rewards reading the whole lap rather than maximizing one movement total.
These rules also explain why a digital implementation could be useful. A program can track gear, card counts, heat, corner limits and timing automatically. In the physical game, however, those actions are visible and discussable: players can see a rival hesitate, infer that a hand is clogged with heat, and negotiate the pace of a shared race without a device mediating every step.

The official box description lists two double-sided boards covering four tracks. It also includes six cars and gear pawns, player mats, and several card and token systems that support the race and its optional modules.
| Component | Role in play |
|---|---|
| Two double-sided boards | Provide four race tracks with different layouts. |
| Six cars and gear pawns | Represent the racers and their current gears on the table. |
| Player mats | Give each racer a place to organize cards and manage their car. |
| Speed cards | Supply movement values used during a gear-driven turn. |
| Heat cards | Represent overheating pressure and reduce the quality of future hands. |
| Stress cards | Add another hand-management constraint and risk element. |
| Upgrade cards | Allow the car to be customized before a race when the relevant mode is used. |
| Sponsorship and Legend cards | Support progression and automated-driver content. |
| Event cards | Add changing race conditions in the modes that use them. |
| Weather and road-condition tokens | Alter how a track behaves and create additional race-to-race variety. |
| Standees and scorepad | Handle supporting information and scoring. |
| Two rulebooks | Provide the rules for learning and running the game. |
The four tracks are an important advantage over a hypothetical minimal app port: the physical purchase gives multiple layouts immediately, and the double-sided boards are a tangible part of setup. The game also has no requirement for a console, computer, internet connection or account once you own the box.
Why the tabletop version has replay value
Championship System
Days of Wonder identifies a Championship System for playing a full season rather than treating every race as an isolated event. A season gives results and decisions continuity, so the group can build a longer arc across races instead of resetting after every finish.

Car customization and upgrades
The publisher describes car customization before each race, supported by upgrade cards. This adds a planning layer before the starting grid: players can adapt a car to the track and decide which weaknesses or strengths matter for the next event. It also gives experienced groups a reason to revisit familiar circuits with a different setup.
The Tool Desk
Outbyte PC Repair FREEClear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →Outbyte Driver Updater FREEFix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Weather and road conditions
Weather and road-condition tokens change the conditions around the track. They prevent a single memorized approach from solving every race and make the same physical boards feel different across a championship. Because these effects are handled with tokens and cards, the group can see the source of a change and account for it together.
Legends automated drivers
The Legends Module adds automated drivers. It can provide opponents when fewer than six people are present and supports solo play. That is the physical game’s answer to the question “Can I play alone?” The headline player count is one to six, but the solo experience depends on using this module rather than simply placing a car on the track and taking every turn yourself.
What the announced digital version promises
Steam’s listing for Mipmap Digital’s adaptation names a broad set of modes and connection options:
- Single-player: a solo category is listed, although the final implementation and opponent behavior should be confirmed when the game launches.
- Online PvP: the listing indicates competitive online races.
- Shared or split-screen play: the product page lists same-device multiplayer support.
- Cross-platform multiplayer: Steam advertises cross-platform play, but it does not establish which future platforms will participate.
- Remote Play Together: Steam’s feature label suggests supported remote sessions through that Steam function.
- Asynchronous multiplayer: the listing includes turn-taking that does not require every player to be online at once.
- Local multiplayer: players are expected to have a way to race in the same place through the digital product.
Those labels describe the announced feature set, not tested behavior. There is no supported basis yet for claiming loading times, frame rate, battery use, touch controls, cross-save, accessibility options, server reliability or how faithfully the digital interface handles edge cases. Until a release build and platform requirements are published, treat all of those details as unknown.

Physical board game versus digital adaptation
| Comparison point | Physical edition | Announced digital edition |
|---|---|---|
| Availability | Official retail listing exists; the Asmodee USA listing showed SKU DOW9101 and a $74.99 list price at the time checked, with the item marked sold out. | Listed on Steam by Mipmap Digital; release date is “To be announced.” |
| Confirmed mobile support | Not applicable; it is a tabletop product. | No official iOS or Android release is confirmed. |
| Players | 1–6 in the product description; Legends automated drivers support solo play and extra opponents. | Steam lists single-player and multiplayer categories, but a final player-count implementation is not stated. |
| Session style | Approximately 60 minutes, depending on players and mode. | Final session length and matchmaking behavior are not stated. |
| Content included | Four tracks, six cars, cards, mats, tokens, standees, scorepad and two rulebooks. | Final digital track, card and module contents are not stated. |
| Rules administration | Players move cars, count cards, manage heat and resolve conditions manually. | Automation is an expected advantage of a digital adaptation, but no hands-on performance claim is documented. |

What mobile players should know before waiting
A Steam listing is not a phone release
A Steam page can establish that a PC version is planned; it cannot establish that the game will be distributed through Apple’s App Store or Google Play. Do not infer Android or iPhone compatibility from the words “cross-platform” alone. Cross-platform could refer to multiple computer platforms or to consoles that have not been specified.
There is no confirmed mobile date to plan around
Because the adaptation’s release field remains “To be announced,” there is no reliable launch window for a phone version either. Any third-party page offering a firm mobile date should be treated as speculation unless it is backed by an official platform listing or announcement.
Do not confuse digital administration with a confirmed rules port
The board game has several interacting systems: gear, speed cards, heat, stress, upgrades, sponsorship, Legends, events, weather and road conditions. A digital game could automate all of them, simplify some of them, or release modules in stages. The available listing does not specify which rules are in the first build. The physical rulebooks remain the authoritative way to learn the documented tabletop game.

Check the edition and stock status
Look for the official product identified by SKU DOW9101 when comparing listings. Asmodee USA showed a $74.99 list price at the time of access and marked the item sold out. That is a published list price and status snapshot, not a promise that every retailer charges the same amount or that the box will remain unavailable. Verify the seller, language edition, component list and condition before ordering.

Plan the table space and teaching time
You need room for a double-sided track board, player mats, decks and tokens, plus space for each car to move. The approximately 60-minute estimate is useful for scheduling, but a first game can take longer while players learn gear shifting, card flow and corner limits. Have the rulebooks available for the first race and explain the heat consequence before anyone starts pushing for speed.

Choose the right mode for your group
- Use a straightforward race to learn the basic hand-management loop.
- Add upgrades when the group wants pre-race customization.
- Use weather, road conditions and events when the table wants more changing variables.
- Use the Championship System for a linked season across races.
- Use Legends drivers for solo play or to fill an under-sized grid.
When waiting for digital makes sense
Wait if your main requirement is remote competition, asynchronous turns or playing without a physical table. The Steam feature list specifically addresses those use cases, and a digital rules engine could remove the bookkeeping burden of heat, gear and card timing. Waiting is also sensible if you do not have storage or a regular local group.
Buying the board game is the better choice if you want a known experience now, value face-to-face discussion, or want the complete physical component set. The tabletop edition also avoids uncertainty about the future adaptation’s price, platform support, account requirements and launch schedule. Owning it does not guarantee any entitlement to a later digital copy, so treat the two formats as separate purchases.
Common points of confusion
“Can I play Heat on my phone today?”
There is no confirmed official iOS or Android app in the documented listings. The safe answer is no—not as an officially released mobile product.
“Is the Steam version released?”
No. Its Steam release date is still “To be announced.” A store page and feature tags indicate an announced adaptation, not a downloadable finished game.
“Does the physical game support solo play?”
Yes, through the Legends Module’s automated drivers. The publisher also presents Legends as a way to add opponents when a group has fewer than six human players.
“Is this a real-time racing game?”
No. The documented tabletop design is turn-based. Players shift gears, play a specified number of cards and manage speed and heat; it is not a twitch-driving test.
“How many tracks do I get?”
The physical box has two double-sided boards covering four tracks. The announced digital adaptation’s final track count is not stated.
Bottom line
Heat: Pedal to the Metal is currently a physical board game first and a digital prospect second. The box offers a documented 1–6-player, age-10-plus racing experience of about an hour, with four tracks, hand management, heat risk, upgrades, changing conditions, a Championship System and Legends automation. The official Steam adaptation is promising for online and asynchronous play, but its release is still unannounced and no iPhone or Android version is confirmed. Buy the physical game for an immediate table experience; wait for verified platform and launch information if mobile or remote play is the deciding factor.
