The minimum tier targets older PCs
A Core 2 Duo, 4 GB of memory and Intel HD 3000-class integrated graphics identify a very low hardware floor by modern PC standards. Meeting that list means the game may launch on an older Windows 10 computer, but it does not establish a particular frame rate, resolution or visual preset. Integrated graphics share system memory, and background applications can reduce the resources available to the game.
#1 Best Overall
- International (UK) Version
- 7.4” diagonal, HDR OLED, 1280 x 800 x RGB, up to 90Hz Refresh rate, High performance touch, <0.1 ms Response time, 1,000 nits peak brightness (HDR), 600 nits (SDR)
- SteamOS 3.0 (Arch-based)
- 512GB NVMe SSD, 16GB LPDDR5 on-board RAM (5500 MT/s quad 32-bit channels), microSD UHS-I supports SD, SDXC and SDHC
- 6 nm AMD APU, CPU: Zen 2 4c/8t, 2.4-3.5GHz (up to 448 GFlops FP32
DirectX 11 is required in both Windows tiers. A computer that can run Windows 10 but lacks a functioning DirectX 11-capable driver can still fail to start. Install the graphics driver supplied by the GPU or laptop manufacturer and apply pending Windows updates before diagnosing the game itself.
The recommended tier is still modest
Steam’s recommended Windows target is an Intel Core i3, 8 GB of RAM and a dedicated GPU in the NVIDIA GTX 650 class. The recommendation indicates more room for the game’s exploration, dialogue, crafting and village-simulation systems than the minimum tier, but it is not a benchmark promise. The store page does not publish expected frames per second, resolution targets or settings presets.
Storage is small, but not a performance guarantee
The listing asks for 300 MB of available space on Windows. That is an unusually small install footprint for a current PC release, but it should be read as the published requirement for the listed build. Leave additional free space for patches, shader caches, save files and the downloadable demo; the store page does not state how large future updates will be.

How macOS support differs
Apple Silicon and Intel are both listed
The minimum macOS entry supports either an Intel Core i5 or Apple M1, while the recommended entry names Apple M1 or Intel Core i7. This is explicit support for both processor families rather than an Apple-Silicon-only requirement. Check the processor architecture of an older Mac before assuming that every macOS 11-compatible model is suitable.
Memory matters more on Mac
macOS lists 8 GB of RAM as the minimum and 16 GB as recommended. Those figures are higher than the corresponding Windows and Linux tiers. On Apple Silicon systems, the GPU uses unified memory, so leaving browser tabs, video software and other large applications open can reduce the practical headroom available to the game.
Graphics and storage
Minimum graphics include Intel Iris or AMD Radeon Pro; the recommended entry names an Apple Silicon GPU or AMD Radeon Pro 5300M. The required storage is 400 MB in both macOS tiers. The page does not identify a Metal version, frame-rate target or resolution target, so those details should not be inferred from the hardware examples.

SteamOS, Linux and Steam Deck
Why the Linux listing matters for Deck owners
Steam lists SteamOS and 64-bit Ubuntu 20.04 in both Linux tiers, with the same CPU, memory, graphics and storage targets shown for Windows. That makes the Linux requirements directly relevant to a Steam Deck, whose operating system is based on SteamOS. SteamDB records Linux support and full controller support for app ID 3589430 at its configuration page.
No title-specific Verified or Playable badge is established
The available store evidence does not show a game-specific Steam Deck Verified or Playable badge. Valve’s Steam Deck Verified criteria evaluate details such as default-resolution support, default settings and legible text; they are separate from the game’s raw PC requirements. Because the badge is not established here, do not treat the Linux table as a promise that every Deck model will receive a particular rating.
The requirements are light enough to make Steam Deck a plausible platform, and the listing records controller support, but that is a reason to test the demo rather than a substitute for a compatibility badge. Recheck the store page and recent player reports near the December 2026 release.

What to check on a Deck
- Open the game’s Steam store page on the Deck and inspect the current compatibility indicator beneath the purchase or installation area.
- Install the downloadable demo when available to your account and test launching, text readability, controller navigation, saving and returning from suspend.
- Use the default graphics profile first. If the game offers a resolution or quality menu, change one option at a time so you can identify which setting affects stability.
- Report reproducible problems through the game’s Steam community or developer channels, including your Deck model, SteamOS version and whether the issue occurs in the demo or full release.
PC versus Steam Deck: practical differences
| Comparison point | Windows PC | Steam Deck |
|---|---|---|
| Operating system | Windows 10 is listed for both tiers. | Uses SteamOS; the game also lists SteamOS/Linux support. |
| CPU and GPU requirement | Minimum and recommended examples are published directly in the Windows table above. | No Deck-specific CPU/GPU target or performance profile is published. |
| Memory | Use the Windows minimum or recommended tier as the reference. | The Linux listing supplies the relevant software target, but the store page does not provide a Deck-specific memory allocation. |
| Storage | The Windows listing specifies 300 MB. | The SteamOS/Linux listing also specifies 300 MB; actual free space available to a Deck depends on the drive and other installed content. |
| Controls | Keyboard and mouse support is not detailed in the requirements panel. | SteamDB records full controller support. |
| Verified status | Not applicable to a Windows PC. | No title-specific Verified or Playable badge is established in the accessed evidence. |
This comparison separates what the listing actually confirms from what still needs testing. A Windows computer can be checked against named processor and graphics examples; a Deck owner should use the demo and the current compatibility indicator because there is no published Deck performance target.
How to check whether your computer meets the list
Windows 10 or 11
- Open Settings > System > About and note the processor model and installed RAM.
- Open Task Manager > Performance and select GPU to identify the graphics adapter. Compare it with the integrated-versus-dedicated category in the Steam table, not only the brand name.
- Press Windows key + R, enter
dxdiag, and check the Display tab for the installed driver and DirectX information. - In File Explorer, right-click the destination drive and choose Properties to confirm at least the published free-space figure, while keeping extra room for updates.
macOS
- Choose Apple menu > About This Mac to see the macOS version, chip or Intel processor and installed memory.
- Open System Settings > General > Storage to check free space.
- Choose Apple menu > About This Mac > System Report and open Graphics/Displays if you need the exact GPU name.
- Compare the result with the macOS table, paying particular attention to the 8 GB minimum and 16 GB recommended memory levels.
SteamOS or another Linux distribution
- On Steam Deck, open Settings > System and record the SteamOS version and available storage; on desktop Linux, use your distribution’s system-information panel or hardware tools.
- Confirm that the installation is 64-bit when using Ubuntu, because the listing specifies Ubuntu 20.04 64-bit rather than a generic Ubuntu release.
- Install current graphics drivers and run the demo before purchasing the unreleased full game.
- Check the store page again after major SteamOS or game updates, since compatibility labels and Proton-related behavior can change.
Release status, demo and changing requirements
Steam lists a planned release in December 2026. The full game is not yet available, but a downloadable demo is offered. The store description calls it “a cozy narrative sim where you care for goats, craft mountain goods, and help villagers rebuild their lives.” Its systems include branching dialogue, relationships, goat care, crafting, exploration, fishing and village rebuilding.

Because the game is still in development, the requirement panel is a snapshot rather than a permanent contract. Check the Steam listing immediately before launch for altered operating-system versions, hardware examples, storage needs or a newly assigned Deck compatibility badge. The demo can reveal launch and control problems on your particular machine, but performance in a demo should not be presented as a guarantee for the final build.
Best Value
- Valve is entering the gaming console marketplace with the new Steam Deck, a console geared towards PC gamers. The Steam Deck can be docked to a monitor, and used as a PC, or docked to a TV.
- Players can play a huge variety of games at any time with the comfort of a console and the freedom of a PC. Not anti-glare screen.
- Like the name suggests, the Steam Deck will include upgraded 1TB storage, and will include a carrying case. A micro SD slot will also enable expanded storage.
- Valve partnered with AMD to create a specialized APU optimized for handheld gaming, and Valve says the chip will deliver performance to run AAA gaming titles.
- The Steam Deck is outfitted with a 7-inch touchscreen, and two trackpads under the control sticks that allow gamers to operate games never designed outside of mouse and keyboard capabilities.
Engine change and what it does—and does not—tell you
Developer updates say the team moved from Godot Forward+ to Compatibility mode to support a wider range of systems and that the demo ran more smoothly on more machines after the change. This is a developer statement about an implementation decision, not an independent benchmark. It supports the expectation of broad hardware targeting, but it does not establish a specific frame rate, battery life, loading time or graphics preset.
Troubleshooting when a system appears to qualify
The game will not launch
- Verify that Windows, macOS or Linux matches the supported version family and architecture shown in the relevant table.
- Update the GPU driver or operating system, then restart before testing again.
- On Windows, run
dxdiagand confirm that the graphics device is detected without a driver error. - On Linux or SteamOS, verify that the game is using the intended graphics driver and that the installation is not corrupted.
Stuttering or unstable performance
- Close browsers, recording tools and other memory-heavy applications.
- Start with the game’s default settings and lower resolution or visual effects only if those controls are available.
- On integrated graphics, make sure the laptop is connected to power and using its high-performance profile where applicable.
- Compare the behavior in the demo and note whether the issue follows a particular area, menu or save file before contacting support.
Insufficient storage
Free the published installation space plus a buffer for updates and temporary files. If the store client reports a larger requirement than the table, use the client’s current figure; unreleased games can change package size between builds.
Quick Recap
Bottom line for each platform
