Hell Let Loose is a 50-versus-50 World War II multiplayer shooter built around squad roles, communication, and strategic objectives—not a conventional solo campaign. It can be a strong fit if you want coordinated, large-scale team play; players looking for a self-contained story or mostly independent gunfights should know what they are buying.
What kind of game is Hell Let Loose?
Hell Let Loose is a multiplayer first-person shooter in which two 50-player teams fight over objectives across large battlefields. Its official Steam listing describes infantry, armor, artillery, a shifting front line, and a resource-based strategy layer. Players take one of 14 roles across command, infantry, recon, and armor.

The game’s locations span the Eastern and Western Fronts and North Africa; Steam names places including Carentan, Omaha Beach, Stalingrad, and Kursk. The store page says its maps draw on aerial and satellite imagery of real battle locations. That is a description of the game’s design, not an independent assessment of historical accuracy.
How much does teamwork matter?
Coordination is central to the design, not an optional extra. Steam’s description emphasizes communication, officers, commanders, and strategic objectives. Your experience therefore depends partly on whether you enjoy working within a squad and contributing to a larger team plan. You can play without assuming that every teammate will communicate, but the available information does not establish that solo-queue play is impossible.

- Fight in epic 50 vs 50 multiplayer battles.
- 9 maps with more added frequently - land at Omaha Beach, fight through Carentan and into the frozen forests of Foy before climbing Hill 400.
- Never fight the same battle twice - 99 capture point variations per map, means thousands of potential battles.
- Play and master one or many of 14 unique roles, including: Officer, Medic, Machinegunner, Commander, Crewman, Sniper and more.
- Constantly updated with new maps, weapons, features and fixes.
The game’s appeal is less about treating every encounter as an isolated duel and more about how infantry, vehicles, reconnaissance, and command decisions fit into a battle. If that team-level layer sounds engaging, the scale and role structure may be a draw. If you want a story campaign or prefer to ignore objectives and play independently, this is a less natural match.
What do the reviews say?
Steam’s user-review snapshot was positive overall but somewhat less positive for recent reviews. On 8 October 2026, Steam showed 83% positive from 62,829 English-language reviews overall and 79% positive from 329 recent reviews. These are dynamic Steam user ratings captured on that date—not critic scores, a cross-platform average, or a permanent measure of quality.

These selected excerpts are useful examples of critical praise, but they are not a complete or representative critic consensus.

The PlayStation US product page lists a PS5 version published by Team17 Software Ltd. and gives its release date as 5 October 2021. Its review-policy text says ratings are from verified owners and are moderated; the page showed no ratings when accessed on 8 October 2026. Check your regional store for current availability. Current Xbox availability, platform performance, input handling, server health, and feature parity cannot be established from the store information cited here.
In Dev Brief #220, published 1 September 2026, the Hell Let Loose team said it remained committed to the game, was working on new content in its 2026 roadmap, and continued addressing community-reported bugs and improving performance across platforms. That is a dated developer update; it does not establish that every issue has been resolved or that performance is uniform across platforms.
