Monthly active users measure engagement, not sales; those platform rankings answer a different question from the dollar-sales chart.

Circana’s reported U.S. figure made Helldivers 2 the seventh-highest launch-month dollar-sales total for a Sony-published title, excluding add-on content. GamesBeat, GameSpot, and Game World Observer carried the comparison. It is specifically a launch-month dollar-sales ranking among Sony-published U.S. titles, not a lifetime-sales position or a global ranking.

February’s wider U.S. games market
The same Circana reporting put total U.S. video game sales at $4.714 billion for February 2024, up 2% year over year. Video game content spending was $4.146 billion, up 5%; hardware spending was $349 million, down 30%; and accessories spending was $219 million, up 25%. These are industry totals for the period, not sales attributed to Helldivers 2.
Circana executive producer Mat Piscatella said: “February video game hardware spending declined 30% when compared to a year ago, to $349 million.” He also said: “All console platforms were down a minimum of 19% compared to a year ago.” Both statements concern the U.S. hardware market, not the performance of any individual game.
